Seldom do I get trapped in a book so compelling it is hard to put down. Last night was precisely one of those situations. My wife, somewhat annoyed at my reading over her shoulder, allowed me to "participate" in the book she was reading by narrating the pages for the both of us. Some sixty pages later, I decided to call it a night.
The book by Steve Baldwin and Karen Holgate is titled "From Crayons to Condoms: The Truth about America’s Public Schools", and it is recommended reading for any person who either has a child in the public education system, teaches in the public education system or pays taxes to the public education system. The book approaches the issues faced in today’s schools from primarily the parent and student perspective, and I’ll warn you it does not spare any punches. In fact, some content is downright pornographic. Sadly, though these are all situations that have occurred in the public school system; the same system many trust to educate their children.
