I recently read where the Liberty Shelter is having problems staying afloat because of the lack of funds for the quality of the sheltered animals health care. While I know this has been a rough year for us all, and I personally am not wealthy by any means, I do not accept the fact that we live in a county with the human population better than 60,000 strong and for whatever excuse people cannot help support a decent cause provided by volunteers, not just for the animals but also the citizens of this county. I know some people feel it is an endless effort caring for the strays, but for GOD'S sake those lives are dependent on us (as precious to him as is our own) to have "humane compassion". For years I have always managed to set aside donations for the shelter even when I felt I could not afford to do so, and believe me or not I am always rewarded back ten fold. It angers me that there is so many with so much wealth in this county that like to show & tell all about their good fortune, but find it a morale struggle to write a substantial charity check that would locally do good and really get the shelter out of hardship. People are using the excuse that everything is so expensive and they can't afford to donate (in some cases I am sure that is true), but this 4th of July I didn't see any lack of funds for partying and fireworks. I find the lack of caring by anyone that has the means to help shameful and wonder what has become more important in our lives as a so called "humane society", charity or a six-pack of beer?
