How is talking on a cell phone any different than a person chatting with a friend that has come to shop with the customer in your business establishment, restaurant or other public service or product business location? As far as I am concerned in the movie theatre that is the one exeception besides the library where no noise is allowed including NO talking obviously including using a cell phone (but that is also why we have a vibrate option... so that we can take the call in another location without missing the important information!) But in today's world using the cell phone is an absolute necessity in most people's professional lives to conduct business. Of course it requires some patience on the part of others as does just getting along with our fellow man does! I choose to follow the traditional societal dictate that advises us when we are next to our fellow man on the street, in the store, on the elevator, or any of the other numerous avenues of public contact the usual custom is NOT to listen in on private converstations being conducted in close proximity to you whether that conversation is with a real person next to them or a phone conversation. Having a cell phone in my opinion is no different than bringing a friend alongside of you to enjoy the day while engaging in personal chit chat from time to time! A wise man once told me if you can not change it... adapt!! This world is ever changing ... never stagnating and if we can not tolerate a cell phone in our presence then we will never be able to adapt to any new progress our society is continually throwing at us! I thank God that man has invented the cell phone so that if by chance anything happens to one of my children or they need me, I will be at their side in a moment's notice even if I am in your business... I will take the call regardless if you choose to throw me out for doing so!!
I take my cell phone with me everywhere I go and it stays on vibrate, even the movie theater. In restaurants or in the theater when I receive a call, I check the caller id, then text whomever it was that called me. No fuss, no muss and no one else gets disturbed. I would never talk while in line somewhere, unless I am buying something for someone else and they are telling me what they want. Usually that isn't a problem with the proprietor of the store because that is more money for them.
I'm not talking about people talking on cell phones in general, I'm talking about them trying to carry on a conversation with someone on there cell phone when they are trying to place and order and should be talking to the person at the counter only. even if you were with a friend chatting while together you would put your conversation on hold while placing and order. and as far as adapting, you need to look around town there are more and more bussiness that are putting up signs letting there customers know to hang up there phone before trying to be waited on. Besides the increased possibility of there order getting messed up because there mind is not where it should be, it is just plain rude to talk to someone on a phone and try to talk to someone else at the same time.
