Southern Hospitality

I believe that there is southern hospitality just not in S.E. Ga. There are too many cultures in this area. If you truly meet someone that has grown up in the surrounding areas they are the true represenitives of the south not the others who come from other areas across the country. I have found in my 15 years of being here that many people are rude and don't care because of where they were raised. All coasts have their own opinions and views. If you want to be treated with respect you have to treat others with respect. I feel this way because I have served the public for 15 years and know how they treat me. If you want respect give it.

I have and will continue to give respect to those I come in contact with, however, I have given up on looking for quality customer service. Genuine, nice, polite people are too few and far between here. I've also noticed what I can only call racism here. For instance, when waiting in line at a restaurant, the person in front of me (who happens to be black) is greeted with a smile and some nearly unintelligible salutation (something having to do with dog, or cousin or something). When I (who happen to be caucasian) get up to the counter I get a dirty look and something mumbled that could not be distinguished as language beyond a grunt. The next person in line (black again) gets a friendly "Girl" this or "Baby daddy" that. It would seem that we have all too quickly forgotten the days of segregation, when people wanted to dine in the same establishments.

I just attended my daughter's graduation in Memphis TN this past weekend and experienced the worst degree of reversed racism I have ever personally encountered. It was intolerable the amount of angry Afro-American hatred projected onto me without cause of any kind. Not just one or two, but hundreds! As there were nearly a thousand spectators in attendance and the caucasions were mere speckles amongst the masses (myself included,) Afro-Americans absolutely numbered in the majority. The level of tension was unbearable. "What purpose does it serve?" was the only question that entered into my mind!
Not only that, I assume most of the majority were Christians, and mostly of the Baptist persuasion so I can say without hesitation that they certainly don't practice what they preach on Sunday! (At least in that Southern area!)
