I use to wonder, as a victim could I forgive as I had seen others do, not knowing at some point in my life I would find out the answer. I have never been one to think good outweighed bad, but was raised to standup for what is right and there was a chance the scale would reverse.
Always being taught our justice system is meant to protect us based on moral standards. We had to place that trust in the ones who took an oath as God is witness, to uphold the law and judge without bias. Standing up as a victim working my way through the justice system, from the pending charges, bond, numerous court dates, plea agreement, to sentencing, I started to uncover behind my back "slight of hand". After the plea contract had gone through the system and was signed, I later found out because the perpetrator was boasting to someone about his connections in the court system that the agreement had been reversed and the perpetrator was not to serve any sentence. This was also happening in other cases without the victim's knowledge and without regard for the victim's rights.
All of this by the very ones who is suppose to protect and serve, uphold the law, judge without bias and have moral standards. Because I found out I was able to confront our trusted authorities to force the issue of their unethical acts, to go back through the justice system again, only now being a victim of their corruption. I was told our justice system is broken as a poor attempt for an excuse. Its not our justice system that is broken, its the ones controlling it with their greed for power and money.
Taking a stand for the victim's rights and pointing a finger at the long reach of corruption, later I also became the victim of judicial bias. I have lost respect for the so called "Honorable", because not only are the criminals damaging peoples lives but so are the governing authorities.
