You want to know where to look for dog fighting, 3/4 down Mt. Olivet Church on the left side off Hwy. 196, 1/2 down Freedman Grove on the right side off Hwy. 17, Blue Jay and also First Street. Usually on Wensday nights and weekends. Its not hard to find, just look for 20 to 100 autos gathered (unusual) or if its not visible, park and listen for the horrifying sounds of dogs being ripped apart, you can hear it a mile away. Now there isnt any doubt, publicly. So if this message does'nt help stop it, maybe the next time something will be done. Vick was not caught in the act, but the (feds) managed to convict him. Tortured and starved dogs is evidence, the remains of 13 dogs is evidence, and the scars on the dogs is evidence. Charge him and let a jury decide, he'll plea! Just make sure the offer is jail time. Its not that hard to find a witness to dog fighting because of the noise of the dogs being hurt and the cheering of the criminals. Liberty County is not that densely populated, in fact it is occuring in very populated neighborhoods. Just to note, dog fighting is not a sport or entertainment. It is generations of low life forcing animals into a situation of vulgar cruelty and needs to be stopped.

I am outraged with your disclosure that the public has known about this for some time and no one has had the courage to report it to the authorities in this county? I find that incredulous? Is it complicity to hear the pleas of the defenseless and let those cries for help go unheeded? No wonder the authorities throw up their hands in exasperation when the "public" will not do their civic duty!Everything is recorded in the book of life so I will pray for those who turned up the TV instead of picking up the phone.

JuneBug commented on Tuesday, Mar 25, 2008 at 20:19 PM

Dont think the authorities throw up their hands just because these criminals kin folk are not turning them in. Your authorities are also kin to them, how do you think they are being elected. Everyone in the justice system here and surrounding counties is kin to each other as well as the locals. If they bust a dogfighting ring of kin folk that would cause them to lose alot of votes... Ask around, you'll see what I'm talking about.

tandshickey commented on Wednesday, Mar 26, 2008 at 07:04 AM

Not true. I'm not related to anyone in the criminal justice system in Liberty County. So, I'll take you up on your challenge and start with you! Care to name names?

bjbbjohn commented on Wednesday, Mar 26, 2008 at 23:44 PM

Not true for you maybe, being from Kentucky! Did you actually read the comment, duh? "locals". Oh, thats right your from Kentucky!!!

JuneBug commented on Thursday, Mar 27, 2008 at 01:50 AM

A little stupid for you to ask someone to put their family in jeopardy, dont you think? Oh, thats right your from Kentucky! Sounds like your fishing and you just got bit!

tandshickey commented on Thursday, Mar 27, 2008 at 07:48 AM

Funny...ever consider comedy as a profession? Actually, I have been here since 1986.

Nice that you can read a profile. By the way...why not post yours? What's to hide? Skeletons in your closet or just to afraid to let people know who is brave enough to initiate the diatribe?

If you are not living on the edge, you take up too much room!

Native American Saying

MsGenuine commented on Thursday, Mar 27, 2008 at 22:06 PM

TOUCHE Tom! Let those locals look that word up in the dictionary! (if they know where the accent is placed?) Who cares who is related to who? Not everyone in the community where these dog fighting rings are held are related to the vicious cruel souls who are committing these heinous acts. So if your kin asks you to jump off a bridge you are going to do it? Where is individual responsibility and conscience in Liberty County? We are each responsible for our actions or INACTIONS and will be judged accordingly! You are suggesting that one should put one's soul in jeopardy because your kin folk won't get relected? How ludicrous is this line of reasoning! Complicity is complicity and laws are made to protect the innocent... which is the terrified and abused dogs who are being used to entertain "YA'LL's KIN?" Someone needs to stand up and be brave and name names. If I knew who and where I would jump right into this fighting arena and get the punches started. I graduated from Bradwell in 1983 and do not attend these "kin" reunions at the dogfighting inbred brawls. Why even discuss this matter if all you can do is make excuses for an excuse of a "spacetaker." Put up or shut up... publicly announce the offenders so that Tom can put them in shackles where they belong... not in elected office!

bjbbjohn commented on Thursday, Mar 27, 2008 at 23:09 PM

No Kentucky, but you need to stay in music! You may not be one of these locals or are you? Your mentality fits the profile... You dont have to be born here to fit in, matter of fact your doing good. What I stated is fact and you can believe it or not. And if you really want to get personal post your phone number I'll give you a call, now whos afraid? You aside, there has been witnesses to the dogfighting that has stepped forward, more than once, problem was the ones doing the dogfighting was kin to or was known to party with the right people... If you really want to know how the justice system works here, I challenge you, go sit in the courts or search the public records, ask questions. What I know I found out by searching for answers because I also thought laws are made to protect the innocent, thats a crock and is exactly why the innocent want step forward.

Law enforcement is mostly paperwork, because they usually arrive after the fact!!! My saying, because I can speak for myself!

PLEASE, you cannot have lived for forty years and be that ignorant to the possibility of political corruption. Smarten up man, dont you watch the news. Its going on in "Small Town America" everyday. You've spent half your life in Liberty County and it sounds like you actually dont know whats going on.
For arguements sake, lets say corruption is possible, now what? Just like in the Vick case it took the FBI, because the local authorities would'nt do anything, and they admitted to knowing Vick was running a dogfighting ring. So your going to trust the local authorities to protect you from the criminals? In your dreams... WAKE UP! Looks like its possible for both sides to be involved in criminal activity, huh?
If its going to be reported, why take the chance, go outside this jurisdiction.

tandshickey commented on Friday, Mar 28, 2008 at 08:32 AM

Well...I guess I stand corrected. You appear to know so much more that I originally thought. So, therefore I suppose you already understand that for the right reasons law enforcement will not just randomly launch investigations based on anonymous reports. Sure, they may look into some of the foundations of the complaint, but if these are unfounded, the report will go no further. Though I am grateful that you called attention to this problem, and I do believe you are sincere about the issue occurring, it is none-the-less interesting that you waited only to blow off steam about the issues when a report was filed on it in the Courier. Surely you were more concerned. I will not be filing my phone number anytime soon, but I assure you it is not out of fear of you or anyone in Liberty County, Georgia. You just come across as the type of personality that would decide to call sometime in the late hours of the evening, perhaps after a Jerry Springer show or Maury Povich rerun and honestly, I have more important things to do other than fielding erroneous calls from the like of you when it is apparent that you have no real interest in debate. Rather, you choose to simplify real issues through childish spouting. Oh and June, I am sad to report that corruption is more far reaching than just “Small Town America. So where have YOU been? If you are so bitter about life within Liberty County, might I suggest your relocation to some other place? As it stands, there are plenty of us here who appreciate where we live. We observe life’s problems and work toward ways of improving rather than hiding behind the veil of an online moniker and attacking with invisibility. To clarify your point about Vick, do you understand that his punishment would be more severe under the federal system than it would be under the state? Allowing the feds to prosecute was smarter because there is no probation, and they rarely lose. If he was prosecuted under state law, there would have been a good chance that he would have had nothing more than probation, perhaps with some minimal time served.

Ok…I’m done.

Hey Kentucky, I actually thought for a minute you got it, oops! Guess I'll go ahead with the offer. I have some waterfront property I'll sell you, its in the Okefenokee, LOL!

JuneBug commented on Sunday, Mar 30, 2008 at 04:56 AM

Kentucky Tom - How would me moving stop the dogfighting rings? Talk about childish, that statement is ignorant and arrogant. The comments you've made towards bringing the dogfighting issue to the publics attention sounds more like your trying to take up for your "Bubba" buddies doing it, then helping publicly acknowledge it. Or is it the fact that someone got the better of you, now thats childish. Your assuming alot to know so much. It was never stated in the original message how the incidents were reported. And I doubt, as busy as you claim to be you would inconvenience yourself to question the authorities or research the facts before spouting off at someone reporting a crime. It must be wonderful for you to live in such a perfect place. I wonder if that dog that was pictured feels the same!

ENSmolen commented on Tuesday, Apr 01, 2008 at 10:10 AM

Wow, folks ... how'd this become a personal matter? Dogfighting is horrid. Give tips to the cops. If it is known that the acts are continuing, tip the feds ... dogfighting is a popular thing to prosecute right now (rightfully so). This really doesn't have anything to do with most of what y'all are arguing about.
But just a note ... law enforcement corruption exists WAY beyond the confines of Liberty county. Let's do something about it instead of fussing and arguing on the internet!

tandshickey commented on Tuesday, Apr 01, 2008 at 14:01 PM

Finally, a voice of reason.

bjbbjohn commented on Wednesday, Apr 02, 2008 at 01:21 AM

Yes, and its NOT your voice... Although I dont know how you can hear anything over your own thoughts! Your Turn...

The problem appears to be dogfighting and corrupt rednecks with a good probability of drugs in the mix - somebody is making a profit. Lets see what is going to be done in this recent case posted (03-23-08 Courier). Stated strong evidence, and if you look at the photo I would say so. That is why I would question if this monster is not charged with felony dogfighting. If anyone knows of dogfighting or corruption you can call the FBI (Atlanta Division) at (404)679-9000 and the U.S. Humane Society (Washington D.C.) at (301)258-3156. You do not have to give any personal info.
