I find it incredible that something of such horrible magnitude could occur at Penn State. Did they think that after the guy stepped down he would "go straight" and change his ways on his own? And what about justice and treatment for those who had already been victimized?
These are supposed to be highly educated people (the University hierarchy and Sandusky's bosses). In the end, they were nothing more than enablers. IMHO, criminal liability SHOULD apply to them.
I agree and I am afraid that what might have really happened is simply that we have gone too far in being politically correct.
We have become too tolerant of deviant behavior in all forms.
I think we are looking at the beginning of something very ugly...I cannot believe Happy Valley is the only place that this sort of thing has happened. Before all is said and done every program that is started by a sports figure will come under a microscope, Will it stop predators? I think we all the answer to that question, I just want to know what kind of man can witness a grown man having sex with a 9yr old boy, walk away and wait until the next morning to report it to anyone
And another college rocked by a sex scandal;

football is king. It brings in top students and contributors. Nobody messes with the goose that lays the golden egg.
up2: Yes - I agree. But it's incredible - presuming all of the honchos knew what Sandusky was doing - that they wouldn't realize that eventually he would get caught and it would be a tremendous problem for PSU and their "legendary" coach. I'm waiting to hear Paterno's reasoning as to what he knew, what he did, and why he didn't do more.
Not to let anyone off the hook because there is no excuse for this but if the school had an established protocol for such events as this, I think it would have come to light much earlier.
This case is getting uglier by the minute, there is now a missing assistant DA that had been investigating sexual abuse allegations for 2 years, disappeared into thin air all that can be found of her is her laptop that washed up on the banks of the river with the hard-drive missing...plus rumoured allegations that Sandusky was procuring boys for other individuals.
This is worse than "football is king" it's starting to look like football was the cover for something very ugly.
I saw those allegations. Sandusky did an interview with Bob Costas the other day during which his comments and their delivery made him look guilty as sin.
Speaking of child sex abuse scandals at major universities, another one has recently erupted at Syracuse:
