I couldn't of said it better myself...Oh wait,i did on many other blogs years ago.
Im still waiting on all those so called BI supporters to show back up on the blogs but they have ran a tucked their tail because all that 31313 and myself has said has come to light.
Just be honest with yourself,if you were true BI supporters this programs direction would not be ok with you.
Do your friend Coach Walsh a favor and ask him to step down because he is who you are really supporting, not the program.
18 yrs, 1 region championship 1997. 1 win vs Camden County in 1998
Under the old playoff system that would mean 1 playoff appearence in 18 yrs. Now they let the 2cd,3rd and 4th place losers have a shot. They wont even be one of those this year cause they cant even beat the Savannah teams anymore.
SportsFan31313, maybe you should start a petition to oust Coach Walsh.
Take the petition to every home game and see how many students are willing to sign it.
I was advised to do that by one of my colleagues who asked that I don't reveal their name.
I can only hope that the Superintendent, and Board Of Education in Liberty County now read this Blog, and act imediately to finally remove Coach Walsh. Coach Walsh has a teaching license, put him in the classroom and have him teach academics. Hire a Head Hunter (Recruiter) Or a consultant to go on a State wide search or even a national search for a qualified coach with a proven track record, and get this Coach hired at Bradwell Institute.
The stakes could not be higher at this time. New Stadium, new Sports Complex, and an "OLD" out dated Head Coach.
New wine has to be poured into new bottles. Never pour old wine into new bottles.
The article below shows how a team should be ran. You make changes to try and better the team.. If you need a coach, you pony up the money and go get them.
Colquitt's defensive changes paying off
Colquitt County played in the highest-scoring championship game in state history last year, a 52-38 loss to Brookwood. Colquitt head coach Rush Propst took no pride in it.
"I literally walked off that Georgia Dome floor embarrassed, biting-nails mad, to waste an effort like that offensively," Propst told GHSF Daily on Thursday. "And we gave it up to a team that runs the football. It was not a high-octane offense. That's on me. I decided I was either going change the atmosphere or resign and be done with it."
Propst's solution? He hired a new defensive coordinator, Travis Pearson, former head coach at Jeff Davis in Montgomery (2009, 2010 seasons) and director of football operations and assistant to Gene Chizik at Iowa State (2007, 2008).
"To me, the scheme is similar, but it's a completely different mindset," Propst said. "We have not had a defensive mentality since I've been at Colquitt, and south Georgia is defensive. I tried to come in and outscore everybody."
Propst also touted the off-season hire of Sean Sutton, who coached with Propst at Hoover. Sutton ran the summer program as Propst recovered from cancer treatment.
Colquitt has seen good results so far. No opponent has scored 20 points on Colquitt this season. A year ago, Colquitt allowed 31.5 points per game, the most ever for a state finalist.
Propst said tonight's game with Lowndes will show how much his defense has toughened up. Colquitt hasn't beaten Lowndes since 1999.
"This part of the state boils down to being good on defense and being tough," Propst said. "Lowndes is going to hit you, now. This game is based on how physical we can match them. If we'll play with them in the physical part of the game, we can win. If not, we won't. That's going to be the end of the story. They physically whipped us over there last year."
Propst said as many as 20 teams in Georgia could win Class AAAAA. But he believed there is a front-runner.
"Camden County is the best team I've seen all year," he said. "I saw their first game and I've also seen another game on tape. They're as good on defense as advertised, and Brice [Ramsey] the quarterback is going to make plays. If anybody can play with them, Grayson can because their defense is strong, but I don't know if they can score with them."
The only way to get Walsh out is via BOE terminatining his contract. To do that you must get them on record as to their position regarding losing BI football program. Then, make it a campaign issue and one in which hopefully genuine BI devotees will support someone running against the incumbent and vote out the sitting member that does not support a change in 'leadership'.
Sound correct. Lets see what happens next...
You know, what's so suprising is that all of those Walsh supporters / friends are now crowing silently. There are absolutely no more excuses to hide behind. The worst record so far in the History of Bradwell Institute. As long as he is there, you can expect no more than failure.....
Coach Propst from Colquitt County assessed what needed to be corrected even himself or he would resign. That is a real Coach. Walsh is not concverned about anything but a pay check. It is clear. It o=is also clear that Bradwell Football Program is in desperate need of EVERYTHING!!!! New Head Football Coach, Athletic Director, Assistant Coach, Offensive Coordinator, Defensive Coordinator etc.
I would be willing to bet that you could Put Coach Faye Baker at the New Athletic Director Position, and she could do a heck of a lot better job than Walsh with the program. Why not try something new.
Where are all of those Walsh Supporters / friends now?
Yes, I'm calling you out BI94, BIALUM, BraveFan, BILion, and others who I have yet to mention.
What excuses do you have now?
Walsh has to go. He has finally achieve the titile of absolute failure for Bradwell Intitute Football. He get no respect anylonger.
Since i know the BOE wont do a very wide search if they do try to find a coach or come off the money(got to pay for that palace they work in)there is a very hot coach an hour away...Donald Chumley from Savannah Christian.
They have made it to the finals the last 2 years and it looks like their on there way again. Here is som info below.
Ok, ive done the search...now just go get him.
I don't know if Donald Chumley would be a good fit for Bradwell Institute. Moving from a private school where he can get more than likely get anything he want by the snap of a finger. Then on the other hand, he may be the key to success. I am quite sure that to lure him in, he would be paid considerabely. Otherwise, why would he want to leave a championship program he has put into place to such a dismal program that Walsh have created at Bradwell Institute. But all in all, he could very well be a good candidate to replace Walsh.
BOE email addys: firstname.lastname@example.org; email@example.com; firstname.lastname@example.org; email@example.com; firstname.lastname@example.org; email@example.com; firstname.lastname@example.org;
Go get em fellas!
I was thinking that to 31313 but you have some coaches who want to see what they can do on the highest level.
Granted it would be in Region 3 but to turn bradwell around and make them competitive again would really be a challange and some coaches want that.
I know the chance is slim but he did interview for the B.C. job wich would of put him in region 3 if he would of took the job.
He will never play the Valdosta's,Camdens,Lowndes's,Warner Robins's and Metro Atlanta AAAAA schools of the world if he stays at Savannah Christian for his whole career and some coaches want that Challange.
Bradwell Institute is now 1-8. Losing to almost every team that they have come against. Most is Team History. Quite embarassing, dissapointing, and shameful.
The few games that I have attended I have yet to see more than one BOE member in attendance if any at all. Usually there are not there.
At times when something does not benefit certain people, or they can personally gain something from it,then they don't really care what happens.
Let just see what happens with the BOE does when it comes to your plight, and my request.
Whatever happened to basing a persons job on performance metrics. If this would be done he would be gone as head coach!
I agree with you Funkentelecky. For some odd reason Walsh has been kept around longer than any Coach with such a disasterous record than I can think of. As stated in my Blog, High School Coaches in the State Of Georgia have been fired in the middle of the football with records far better than Walsh record. The years of poor performances by the Bradwell Institue Tigers Football Team is the worst in School History. Walsh supporters claimed in the past, of players with no talent. Great Coaches make something out of nothing if that is the case. Walsh has been there for 18 years as Head Coach Of the Bradwell Institute Tigers. When he came, he was given a program that was in good shape. But year after year Walsh the performance began to spiral downward, and it is a complete disasater. He is by far the worst Head Football Coach in the History Of Bradwell Institute. The time has come a very long time ago that Walsh contract be terminated as Head Football Coach and Athletic Director at Bradwell Institute. Walsh has to go, and go now. Thank you for your comments.
Here is a something everyone should know.
"• Camden County has clinched its 11th straight title in Region 3-AAAAA."
Bradwell Institute use to have similiar comments like this.
Walsh has to go everyone....
Its Friday 28th 9:45 pm. Just watched the Bradwell vs. Groves game LIVE on tv.
What a shock BI loses again....6-0
It's no longer a shock. It was a shock a few years ago. This is the absolute norm for the Bradwell Institute Tigers Football Team as long as Coach Jim Walsh Jr. is still there. Bradwell Institute has NEVER had such a horrible season in it's school history. Congratulations Coach Walsh. You have successfully made the Rank Of Being Number 1, and the Worst Coach In The History Of Bradwell Institute Football Program.
I am a past two-time president of the Harvey Overton Bradwell Booster Club and still a member and have been for 25 years. I and other members have discussed what needs to be done about the football program. First, let me say this is nothing personal against Jim Walsh. Jim is a great guy and has done some good things at Bradwell, but the program has gotten to where he cannot help it anymore. I've been told by a school board member that a coach does not get fired anymore based on wins and losses. So we decided that I would go to the principal Scott Carrier and tell him that we wanted Coach Walsh to resign. This is what I was advised to do from school board member Lily Baker. I went to Mr. Carrier after the Groves game and told him what the supporters of the program wanted. Saturday morning Carol Guyette called me and said she heard that I and other supporters wanted him (Coach Walsh) fired. I told her that "fired" was never mentioned and that I told Scott that we wanted Jim to resign. Mrs. Guyette, a board member who does not support this, told me that it would not happen. I told Carol that I was advised that if Mr. Carrier did not ask Coach Walsh to step-down, then we would have to take it to the Superintendent.
I plan on talking to Mr. Carrier this week and find out if he has asked Coach Walsh to resign or not. If not, then we have to set up a meeting with the Superintendant. Now all you people on this blog that say you are supporters and want this to happen need to quit hiding behind numbers and off the wall names. You need to come forward and let Mrs. Guyette and Mr. Carrier know how you feel. Myself and other supporters have done all we can do for now, but we need the support of everyone who wants to get this done and start trying to find someone who can get the football program turned around and headed back in the direction that is needs to be. Right now, it is as bad as it has ever been.
In response to your above comment, We have the ear of at least one Board Member that is listening to our complaint, and it is not Carol Guyette. Ms. Guyette is a Walsh Supporter. Always have been. Last year a comment was mentioned by another person whom posted a comment on one of my Blogs that suggested something that set off a firestorm. But the person who posted the comment was speaking of this particular Board Member. BOE consist of more than one Board member as you and all of us know. She is only one who has been supporting Walsh.
Let me say this about Walsh. I have absolutely nothing personally against him. He has NEVER been a good fit for Bradwell Institute Athletics. Again, I don't know why in the world sould the powers that be during that time, would hire him anyway. Look where he came from? One year of a successful season at Johnson of Savannah and they run hire him. He had no proven track record. Yet they hired him. He came to Bradwell Institute with good program and a Championship Football Team handed to him on a silver platter. Heck, all Walsh had to do was just show up. Everything was alrady taken care of.
He has successfully taken down this football program to complete failure all by himself. Don't you hear the fan booing when you go to the game. I quit going. It was a complete waste of my time and hard earned money. I'm sorry Darby. But I will not give another copper penny to the program as long as he is still there at Head Football Coach and Athletic Director.
Walsh has a Teaching License. He can still teach academics. I along with many others here want him out as Head Coach, and Athletic Director at Bradwell Institute. He is a complete disaster. I have drafted up Letters to the BOE.
Now if they(BOE) don't want to listen and act swiftly, then we along with other supporters have another option that we are considering. That is attend the next BOE meeting and get this matter on the agenda to get them to act, or simply get a supporter (s) for us on the next election ballot, and vote them out. We are very serious this time. I have been discussing this for at least three years now. Myself and others have had enough. This is it. Either they talk Walsh into stepping down, or we move on the aforestated. One way or another Walsh has to go. He can not be the Head Coach and Athletic Director at Bradwell Institute another year.
Continued Page 2..
So this BOE member, Carol Guyette stated that a coach will not be fore over wins and losses? Well I challenge her to reading the Atlanta Journal Constitution and other media material as to how many Coaches in the State Of Georgia past and present years that was fired for the exact same thing. Don't believ me, please read the above comments in this blog. She need to listen. Either she ask her friend Walsh to setp down, or she can join him when he is out, and she is too.
Darby, people are not hiding behid names and numbers. However; people here are really closer than you think and will probably shock a lot of you. Walsh will be very suprise how close in proximinity he is to a lot of the bloggers and it will hurt his feelings. In addtion, a lot of the bloggers don't want intimidaion or confrontation because of their belief. But please know this: We all want Walsh out this year.
Darby, as far as the program goes, I have been saying this for more than three years. Don't believe me, go back to the first Blog at least three years ago Titled, "Bradwell Institute Tigers. Are they a Contender Or A Prentender". This is what I have speaking out about for all these years.
This is another thing that I will promise you. If Walsh isn't gone by the end of the school year, the revenue generated from these football games will be down to almost nothing. Think it's not big business? Ask Coach Rick Tomberlin whon use to Coach at Valdosta. His record was far better then Coach Walsh record. Yet they fired hiom. I think he now is the Head Coach at Effingham County. So tell Ms. Guyette that.
Thank you for informing us all, and thank you for your comments.
"I've been told by a school board member that a coach does not get fired anymore based on wins and losses".
Not true. A North Georgia Head Football Coach this year was Fired in the middle of the this current season for poor win/loss record. They did not even wait until the end of the seaon or the end of the school year. Darby this happens more frequent than you may believe here in the State Of Georgia. Please tell Ms. Guyette that.
I know that coaches get fired, but not in this county anymore per Ms. Guyette. If the athletic program was as important in our school system as it once was, then we would not have to be going through this. Coach Walsh would have been let go after the last game and we would be looking for a new coach. The thing is, winning programs create more interest in school as a whole, better academics, more involvement from the students and community. Check the schools with winning programs and I guarantee you that their academics are better than the ones with loosing programs. Well, we are fixing to find out how important it is in the Liberty County School system. If this comes down to having to go to the B.O.E., we need standing room only at that meeting. If the coaching change is not made, then there is your answer.
Again, thank you for your comments. I agree with you in it's entirety. The pressure will soon be on to get the BOE to terminate Coach Walsh's contract. You see, the problem is that some people do not understand the concept of an in having a great sports program. They think that sports especially footbal is only a extra curriculr activity. When in fact, football is that in it totality. Football is BIG Business as it generates revenue to the County, School, and other program. True example: Valodsta, Lowndes, Camden County pack more fans in their Stadium than some Divison 1-AA College Football Teams. This is Big Business. For a BOE member to say the things that you mention, is pure and simply ot of touch. How many BOE members attend the Bradwell Institute football home games? I have only seen one this season. So that tells you where their priorties are and how much they think of the program. But I can tell you this: If the BOE does not adhere to our request and getting Walsh to step down, then we as supporters to replace Walsh will do, is get supporters who is will be willing to run against the current BOE members who will not get Walsh to step down, and vote them out of office.
I believe Walsh has friends on the BOE and that is why you may hjave some resistance. But I am encouraged and determined to do everything within my power to get Walsh out.
Tift County football head coach Jay Walls resigned Tuesday, the Tifton Gazette is reporting.
Tift County has a 44-34 record in seven seasons under Walls but was 3-7 in 2011. Tift finished fifth among five teams in traditionally strong Region 1-AAAAA in south Georgia. Tift’s best finish under Walls was 12-2 in 2006, when Tift lost to Roswell 24-10 in the Class AAAAA semifinals.
A Savannah native, Walls was head coach of Suwannee High in Live Oak, Fla., before taking the Tift job.
Tift County Schools superintendent Patrick Atwater released a statement that read: ”We thank Coach Walls for his dedication to the program and wish him success in all of his future endeavors. A search for his replacement will begin immediately.”
It must be nice to live in a community where apathy doesn't rule and where mediocrity is not celebrated.
Yes it is Tiger 5. This is no suprise that all over the State Of Georgia Coaches step down, resign, or are terminated for poor seasons. They lose their fan base, and an enormous amount of revenue. The Booster Club and Touch Down Club are very powerful, approach the BOE and Principal and demand change. ou know what? They get it. Coffee County Head Football Coach was under fire this year as well. But he seemed to have dodged a bullet by beating Valdosta or either Lowndes. One or the other. They are in the Playoffs. Region 1-AAAAA is the strongest and the toughest Region in the entire State. When Rick Tomberlin was coach there at Valdoata, he went 6-4 and they fired him. He is now at Effingham County Coaching, and is the Athletic Director there. Tomberlin got the position there because the previous stepped down because of poor seasons. So you see what I mean? Every where in the State Of Georgia remove Head Football Coaches for poor seasons. Libety County is the ONLY County that is so far behind everyone else.
No one is hiding by being on this blog.
Using your real name on any blog would just open you up to PERSONAL attacks by people whom you might offend by what you say. We have stated in many different comments that this IS NOT a personl attack on Coach Walsh. The coach of B.I. could be nameless but if the results were the same we would feel the same way.
I can see that people are taking notice and i have received an email from one BOE member who says they have had many complaints about what is going on with the B.I. football program.
I encourage all of to pick up a copy of the Friday Nov 5 Coastal Courier and read sports writer Jeff Whittens column titled "Walsh deserves better treatment"
I hope Mr whitten knows that not everyone on the internet or who has called "Sound Off" or "Whine line" as he put it, are out to bring someone down. Its about the program.
Sportsfan31313 and hollabackk...PLEASE let us know when this will be on the agenda at a BOE meeting. I as well as plenty of others would love to be there. We have been here 16 years ourselves and have had boys go through this same program. It's time for a change. It's sad and disheartening when you know of talent that could be going to BI will be going to Liberty just because of the football program.
I have preached this for so long that it is nothing persoanl. Matter of fact. It is in my above blog. The Walsh supporters want to make it personal. Either way I don't care. I want him gone.
A few things Jeff Whitten brings up in his article is Walsh's 114-98 record at B.I. and his 10 playoff appearences. He also brings up the ever popular feeder system.(so tired of hearing about that)
What he fells to mention is that it used to be a great feat to make the playoffs because only the region champion could go. Now the top four teams in each region make the playoffs. So what that means is you can have an overall losing record and a .500 region record and make the playoffs. So is it great to make the playoffs? Yes. But is it as hard as it used to be NO. So when you talk playoff appearences look at with shades of grey unless you get in as the region champion. Under the old system Coach Walsh would have one playoff appearence in 18 years at B.I.
Lets talk feeder system... Its a great tool to have if you can get one started but lets face it, its not gonna happen. They were talkin feeder system when i went to B.I. in the 80's and there was only one high school. Now we have three if you count FPCA. So i dont see it happening, if it does, great but for right now we need to get over it.
You want a feeder system? Start winning games. Winning is the only feeder system you need. You will be amazed on how many kids want to be part of a winning program. Thats how it was done in the past. B.I. won alot and kids wanted to be on the team. Remember, "Tradition doesnt Graduate"
Former Hoover Alabama coach Rush Propst is having kids wanting to transfer to Colquitt County now that he has turned that program around in less that 3 yrs. He said in an article i read "what am i supposed to do tell these kids they cant play" "They see we are a top notch program again and they want a chance to get to the next level" Granted he left Hoover under controversy but that was after he won 5 state championships. He took colquitt to the finals last year and the semis the previous year. Alot of kids did not want to play for him after seeing him on the show two-a-days and how hard he was on his athletes but 70 players
play for him now and more want to transfer. Thats your feeder system. Thats what winning does. They also pay him $95,000 per year according to USA TODAY. Whoa.....
Bradwell could get a new coach and go 0-10 wich would be awful but we cant keep going in the direction we are now. I think Coach Walsh should step down and give someone else the opportunity to turn things around. Were gonna have a new fieldhouse and a new stadium so why not a new coach for a new era of Bradwell football.
There is so much that I can refute about the editorial that Mr. Whitten wrote.
I don't have to take out a calculator to see that Walsh 114-93 win loss record is only a little above .500 football. That Sucks. What if a student scores a 50 on a test. Is that acceptable? I would say not.
If Walsh was not sefish and not only think of himself, he would have stepped down a long time ago. But it seems as if Walsh is only interested in a paycheck. Forget about everything else.
Walsh has to go, and go this school year. Bottom line.
Mr. Whitten speks about playoff appearances. Well again, if it was not for GHSA having a new playoff system, (having the top four team in every Region in every Class advance to the post season playoffs, Bradwell Institute would have never made it. Remember Only the Region Champions use to advanced to the Post Season Playoffs.
