Become a Speaker or Mentor

Take Me To Post Comment Form

It is important in today's society for our children to have good, positive role models. In an effort to support this the Governor has created a Community Coach program to assist the graduation coaches already in place in our middle and high schools. I am very proud to say that I am the Community Coach for Liberty County. In an effort to fulfill my duties to this position I have met with all of the middle and high school graduation coaches within the past several weeks.

One of their biggest needs is to have quality speakers and mentors in the schools. Speakers are asked to provide real world application for the lessons that our children are learning (i.e. why it's important to balance a checkbook, read a lease, etc.) while mentors will serve in a one-on-one capacity with the child that they are assigned to. The criteria for each is different as well. Speakers have a shorter application process while mentors, because of their close contact with minors, must complete a background check and other legal documents.

As I am sure you have all heard before, "Our children are our future" so if we do not invest in that future with our time, energy and wisdom we are the ones not passing along that sense of community to our children. Please help if you can.

Applications for either program can be obtained by emailing lpoole@uwce.org

Thanks!
