Simple Steps to Making a Positive Impact

Take Me To Post Comment Form

In today's hectic world we (definitely me too) sometimes forget to take the time to make a positive impact.
That's a shame.

It doesn't have to be complicated, take a lot of time or cost a ton of money. Making a difference can be as simple as picking up a piece of litter that someone else failed to put in the trash, smiling at someone as you pass them by, or holding a door open.

Here is a list of some of the things you can do to make the world around you a better place for all.

Tell a light-hearted joke to ease a stressful situation.

When feasible, shop at places that share proceeds with worthy causes.

Donate to those less fortunate.

Spend quality time with a child, the elderly, an animal or someone else that could really use it.

Adopt a rescued animal. Save a life and be a hero. The years of devoted love and companionship that creature can offer is more than worth it.

Donate blood.

Share laughter.

Respect other people's beliefs while staying true to your own.

Spay and neuter. If we stop having them, we get to stop killing them. Letting one animal breed, means more animals will die. Click here for more reasons.

Didn't finish your meal at the restaurant? Give it to the homeless person you saw on your way there.

Plant a tree.

Go Veg!
If you aren't willing to give up on animal ingredients all together, even just cutting back on your intake of animal products can make a difference in your health and the negative impact on animals and the environment.

Instead of killing "pests", try humanely catching them and releasing in a more suitable environment. Chemicals that are used to kill these creatures are harmful not only to them, but also to the environment. Don't even get me started on how horrendous things like glue traps are...

Several sites allow you to make a difference for free simply by clicking on a link.
One click a day at:
The Rainforest Site helps preserve land vital to the survival of endangered species and the well being of the earth.
The Child Health Site helps children survive and thrive that may have otherwise fallen victim to something preventable.
The Breast Cancer Site helps fund free mammograms.
The Animal Rescue Site helps provide food for animals in shelters and sanctuaries.
Care2 has a listing of several more Click2Donate options. As does The Ecology Fund.

Volunteer for a cause close to your heart.
When supporting the fight against breast cancer, The Children's Wish Foundation, or any other meaningful charity, first check to be sure that they have The Humane Charity Seal of Approval.
Animal experimentation is cruel and has been proven unnecessary. It is important to remember to extend our compassion to all beings.
For more information on animal testing and it's successful alternatives, visit Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine.

When out doing your regular shopping, pay attention to labels and try buying from companies that are cruelty-free.

If you see a fellow human being suffering as a result of another person's cruel actions, do something about it.
If you see an animal suffering as a result of an "owners" cruel actions, do something about it.

Recycle.

Never forget that you matter too.
And finally,
Just because other people may act like jerks, doesn't mean that you have to act like one too!
