Why We Need the Electoral College

In their infinite wisdom, the United States’ Founders created the Electoral College to ensure the STATES were fairly represented.

Why should one or two densely populated areas speak for the whole of the nation?

The following list of statistics has been making the rounds on the Internet.

It should finally put an end to the argument as to why the Electoral College makes sense.

Do share this. It needs to be widely known and understood.

There are 3,141 counties in the United States.
Trump won 3,084 of them. - Clinton won 57.

There are 62 counties in New York State.
Trump won 46 of them. - Clinton won 16.

Clinton won the popular vote by approx. 1.5 million votes.

In the 5 counties that encompass NYC, (Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Richmond & Queens)

Clinton received well over 2 million more votes than Trump.

(Clinton only won 4 of these counties; Trump won Richmond)
Therefore these 5 counties alone, more than accounted for Clinton winning the popular vote of the entire country.

These 5 counties comprise 319 square miles.
The United States is comprised of 3,797,000 square miles.

When you have a country that encompasses almost 4 million square miles of territory, it would be ludicrous to even suggest that the vote of those who inhabit a mere 319 square miles should dictate the outcome of a national election.

Large, densely populated Democrat cities (NYC, Chicago, LA, etc.) DO NOT and SHOULD NOT speak for the rest of our country!

And...it's been verified and documented that those aforementioned 319 square miles are where the majority of our nation’s problems foment.

Ok TOT I posted this information to a blog in early 2017 and this information was distributed by Michael Patrick Leahy.

I corrected a few of the errors shortly thereafter once I conducted more research.

Trump actually won approximately 2654 counties and 30 states to Crillary's 487 counties and 30 states.

She won 27 counties in Texas and 31 here in Georgia which is a total of 58 and we haven't even started counting the counties in the 20 states she won.

Crillary won the popular vote by approximately 3M votes not 1.5M

Crillary won over 4M more votes than Trump in California and if you take away that state he would win the popular vote by approximately 1.5M. Take away New York and he wins by approximately 3M votes.

Whats so great about the Electoral college is that it requires the candidate to really work for the vote and it gives ALL states a sense of belonging to the process. Without the electoral college our president would be voted in by states that put illegals first instead of Americans. California and New York with its densely populated cities high taxes and lawlessness should not decide the fate of this country. Trump also won 220 counties that Obama won in 2012.

Check out this fact from this link.

Under a minimalist approach to the Electoral College, a candidate must win at least California, Texas, New York, Florida, Illinois, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Georgia, Michigan, North Carolina, New Jersey and any other state with at least 10 votes, (Virginia, for example, has 13) to win.

That’s a total of 12 out of 50 states and still win and to correct my typo above Crillary won 487 counties and 20 states.
