It finally happened. You always hear that people vote against their best interest because they have no idea that they are receiving government assistance. I'm stunned. My fellow blogger has no idea he is receiving government assistance. I'm not making fun of his ignorance regarding this topic because it really hurts my heart. Democratic party--you aren't doing your job educating the community about what they stand to lose and how trump's policy affects them. Stop targeting one group and provide outreach to all. We will all lose under Trump/Republican tax cuts.

Myth 1. Medicaid and Social Security are not government entitlement programs.

This is a required deduction that most employees/employers have to pay into (unless you're working under a 1099) this deduction is taken out under FICA. However, the government oversees this program, not your employer.

Myth2. Government employees don't pay into FICA. I've worked for the federal government, and state government. I've paid into Social security all of my life!

Yes, government employees pay into Social Security.

Employees first hired in 1984 and after generally are in the Federal Employees Retirement System. They earn the same Social Security benefit and pay the same Social Security contribution as other workers. Typically that is 6.2 percent of salary, although in 2011 and 2012 (now that a full-year extension has been signed) it is 4.2 percent. In addition, they pay 0.8 percent toward a civil service benefit that is worth roughly half the value of a CSRS annuity for an employee with a similar work record.

Until we hold both parties as a whole responsible for the mess they have made this is just another hollow discussion about the "oppressed" and how the "Man" is sticking it to us. News flash, the "Man" has been sticking it to us for a long time. To be frank, the Tax plan I the least of our worries right now. As for your worries about the CHIP program; I would ask what stake does the States have in this? I dare say a lot more than is being alluded to. States are notorious for blaming big government for cutting subsidies that are not supposed to be the main funding of a State budget. Before we continue to be on the Trump blame train we may want to take a closer look at our State and Local government and ask them what are they doing to mitigate this and furthermore... what is the plan to sustain the program for the long term, not year to year. We as a country are not living within our means and refuse to look at expenditures from an objective sustainable business plan.

@HMJC--I agree with most. However, we have to deal with the here and now and Trump policies are going to kill the middle class,

Please explain how President Trump's policies are going to kill the middle class. I keep hearing and reading this but no one shows any concrete evidence on how the middle classs will be affected.

The Republican tax cut benefits rich Republican donors. Period. That's the point.

Faith leader's come out against tax bill!

Read why they are against it. They are afraid it will cut into charitable donations ie... people will give them less money.

PoliticsNation commented on Thursday, Nov 30, 2017 at 12:36 PM

@gacpl--I read that. It's part of their reason and that part is selfish if I say so myself. The other parts are what Jesus would do. We were not placed on this earth for ourselves--we are suppose to be helpers of one another

I would be very careful about using AARP, MSNBC, or The Hill for information. AARP jumped on the Obamacare bandwagon in order to sell insurance. MSNBC is not a paragon of trust nor is the Hill. When the CBO reports on the bill and its provisions as to who pays what and who benefits the most then I would be more inclined to believe their report. Still no concrete evidence because the bill has not even been passed with some adjustments being made even now. Obamacare was passed with no Republican support so what is the big deal if no Democrats support this bill. They both may turn out to be disasters but only time will tell.
