You Have a Voice. Use It!!!

Take Me To Post Comment Form

I have been perusing this Blog site for about 8 years now. When I first began there were a lot of great contributors, antagonists, protagonists, and a wide spectrum of points of view.

Unfortunately, these last couple of years have been pretty disappointing. Two of the “main” contributors now almost 100% of the time use cutting and pasting as their chosen way to “Voice: their opinion here on the local Blogosphere…

Before TOT gets all twitterpated… that’s ok as it is your right to do so.. With that said there seems to be some angst as to why some of us do not enjoy or participate in those postings; the issue is that these musings are someone else’s, not your own. One of the reasons I like to participate on this site is to voice my own biased musings as well as consider other points of view. I will admit that a lot of the better bloggers have left the site due to petty arguments and name calling which by the way was even worse for the site than cutting and pasting… This coupled with the Vileness of the election left many of us tired of the same old rhetoric although admittedly I was guilty of that at times as well.

There used to be a whole lot more introspect about local issues and informed input to the “real deal” and an array of different takes on the situation(s). Now it seems that the majority of the content is in line with the media Trump flavor of the week for which frankly has almost made me swear off from the “news” in written print as I have already stopped watching televised “news” … I fear I am about to swear off of this site as well as it no longer seems to be revalent unless it is something we can already read in the lamestream media… I have not lived in Hinesvegas my whole life but do take pause with a lot of the local government, rampant nepotism, favoritism, and lack of elected officials’ performance. In the past I was able to gain some insight from “informed” sources from this site. At some point there was more input that just conjecture.

At the end of the day hope that this site becomes more of a forum again that engages different points of view and point and counter point. I think it might be good for the CC to run a small article encouraging citizens to engage in the site and promote an open forum about local and national issues, biased opinions or even… a good news story. Lastly sites such as this are about having a voice; the only way you do not have a voice is to choose not to use it. I challenge all of you to participate more and invoke discussions and opportunities for objective input. I look forward to hearing from all of you…

Call Pat Wakins and discuss this with him. I really don't think this will become a forum, it's too easy to pick up a phone and call "Sound Off" then have to prove your point to the opposite party.

HMJC to every point of your blog let me say clearly that I agree with you.

I initially started to copy and paste because i felt (and still do) that it is better to do that and let the writer and publisher be identified.

I will let that technique rest for a short time.

I do find copy and paste to be better than posting links.

I will never open a link on this site without prior knowledge of the content, author and publisher.

I will do all that I can to assist you in a new effort to return this Courier blog site to more of a "forum" and hopefully the few remaining participants will do likewise.

Thanks for politely calling me out.

And yes I agree that name calling and hurling personal insults should be avoided and not permitted.

We need more discussion regarding our local events.

Hopefully we can improve this site.

It would help if folks would comment on blogs whether they agree with the issue or not. Explain why you agree or disagree with the article and not disrespect the blogger. The only way to find out what is going on with local government is to attend their meetings if you can. Sometimes a well-written letter to the editor can focus attention on an issue. I don't always comment on a blog but will try to do so in the future. I helps to know what other people are thinking regarding things that affect us all. I enjoy the site and hope it keeps going. A forum for good people just trying to understand what is happening to our world

Great Comment!!! This is supposed to be a forum where you are entitled to your own opinions. With this said I do not expect everyone to agree with me; just ask my wife... but it can still be an environment where we at least a conversation is started. The thing with a conversation though; it is a lot more stimulating if we are not talking to ourselves... As for Sound Off, I take zero credence with most of the comments as they are more about personal angst and only one side of the story. Now I am also guilty of expressing my own angst but at least try to offer my summation of the situation.

Lastly its ok to disagree, it's ok to be passionate about something. It is not ok to respond with insults, name calling, and personal attacks.

Lastly, Lastly... Can we please try to post at least one blog that has nothing to do with national politics. please...

I seldom read sound off. I consider that to be the least influential method of communicating your opinion.

Blogging is only a notch or so above sound off.

Just my opinion but I think that if an anonymous blogger wants only original commentary or "musings" they need to understand that those of us who have lived here all of our lives are not comfortable discussing local political opinion because we know there are consequences and political opponents use their influence to punish as well as reward people for running their mouth.

I'm confident that this is the case in communities all over the country.

I've experienced the position of being an elected official and I've experienced the retribution of opponents in my own business. It's not pretty and it is very hurtful.

HMJC this is an excellent blog post and I think my comment here is addressed in depth by blogs posted yesterday by those who post as timeontarget.

Jimmy, good to hear from ya... I get it as far as the anonymous Bloggers such as myself... The reality is I am a State employee and as you stated an objective comment can get ugly with a quickness. Let me think about it as I have no qualms standing behind my musings but also have to make sure I maintain my livelihood...

OriginalJimmySmith commented on Tuesday, Aug 15, 2017 at 07:46 AM

I understand your position and I respect it.

Hopefully we can all work together to both inquire and observe the shenanigans in our local governing as well as our national.

By offering published pieces of others and then adding our individual comments we might cause a better understanding of current events.

HMJC your "musings" are always thoughtful and well stated.

We need more folks such as yourself.

There is nothing wrong with anonymouse
Blogging.

I also believe that just because one blogger is identified he/she has no more credibility on this site than those who are anonymous.

Seems to me that a blog site is the modern forum for citizen input into local politics.

Thanks
