It looks like the voters of Liberty County, unable to strike out at the Development Authority and the Hospital Authority, turned their ire on the Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax upon which they could vote.

I suspect it was more in anger about the three new Taj Mahal's built with expensive marble and woodwork. Could it be that people just plain grew tired of seeing their tax money being wasted? The old scare tactic about raising property taxes didn't work this time.

In view of his record, now known to the voters, Mr. Marcus Scott should withdraw his candidacy for the Liberty County Board of Education before the November general election. Failing that, responsible citizens should seek out and support a write-in candidate for the post.
