I just read an interesting and alarming article
that is the article. In case you can't read it let me recap. A nine year old girl accidentally shot an instructor at a gun range who was teaching the girl how to properly fire an Uzi. No this is not a story from the Onion.
Reacting to a story @NRA Women tweeted,
“7 Ways Children Can Have Fun at the Shooting Range” via @TeamWON. READ: http://t.co/MsvKyajZKt

The tweet was removed but it speaks volumes to some serious problems with the current NRA. The NRA doesn't seem to have a problem with giving guns to children, this is mind blowing to me. No one under the age of 18 should be on or in a gun range period. That is just being socially responsible. I don't care how mature your child is he or she is not mature enough to fire a sub machine gun. Let me be more clear here. There is nothing wrong with having your grandkids fire a 22 on your family property. This happens every day in the country, but a gun range is no place for a child. At home with responsible adult supervision and with firearms that are not as dangerous as an Uzi the scenario usually plays out with a much better ending. So the NRA defending a child using a gun is just nuts.
Second to post that tweet right after this tragedy is so low brow.
See for me watching and listening to the NRA and their political positioning and hyperbole. I can see that the NRA has some problems. First is with the zero sum mentality that the NRA has. Bill Clinton wanted some pragmatic gun rules, like trigger locks banning semi automatic rifles and handguns.
The push back from the NRA was enormous. The rules were pragmatic and common sense type of rules and the president had to use executive orders to make the policies law. The NRA may say things like common sense would make policies and rules like this not needed but common sense was not the order of the day on that gun range and with guns one slip of common sense can be deadly.
The NRA will also point out how one pragmatic law makes it possible for more draconian and liberty crushing laws to be implemented and shortly after there will be an complete fire arm recall of the nation. I find this hard to believe. Now has this happened in nations all over the world? Yes populations have lost their right to buy and sell fire arms and that is a shame however I wish the NRA would work hard to prevent this and not hard to prevent safety when it comes to gun control.
