I will not be eating Whoppers anymore. In case you haven't read it anywhere or seen the story on any of the 24 hour news feeds, let me tell you what Burger King is doing. Burger King is buying a Canadian company in an effort to dodge taxes in the United States of America.
The deal is called Tax inversion.
Burger King and Tim Hortons, comparable in size by market value, confirmed their merger discussions late on Sunday, saying the new company would be the world's third-largest quick service restaurant. It would be based in Canada, which has lower overall corporate taxes than the United States, especially for entities that have large amounts of earnings from overseas.

The proposed deal would be structured as a so-called tax inversion transaction to move Burger King’s domicile out of the United States, and could come as soon as in the next few days, according to Reuters sources familiar with the discussions.
Earlier this month, Walgreen (WAG) said it will forgo a tax inversion when it completes a buyout of European drugstore chain Alliance Boots.
I guess I will also not be shopping at Wal Greens anymore either.
Why would I quit shopping there and essentially not give my support to these companies? Simple these companies are not supporting me. I wish the US government would look at and fix the tax code and make it so that tax inversion will not happen however this is far from happening with the do nothing congress so what can a citizen do? Shop at Mcdonalds? The food tastes the same anyways and at least my money spent at mcdonalds will stay here and be spent by the lawmakers on my roads, bridges schools etc.
Boycott both Burger King and Wal Greens send them a message with me. This country may not have the best tax code but it is still the best country in the world and it is not time to jump ship but get involved. The tax inversion scam and exodus of the American corporation makes me feel like these companies are ex pats, turning there back on the nations that made them the success that they are.
I don't think I could eat a whopper right now without getting sick

They are not the only company doing it. It takes everyone to ban together to stop it

timeontarget commented on Thursday, Aug 28, 2014 at 14:55 PM

No we need to reduce our tax rate so that this country can go back to work in private enterprise.

We simply cannot all work for the government.

Government payrolls really don't generate any real revenue.

JimmyMack commented on Thursday, Aug 28, 2014 at 17:28 PM

NASA, to name just one for now generates millions million in worker revenue.

timeontarget commented on Saturday, Aug 30, 2014 at 07:43 AM

Where do you think those millions are derived from.

The private sector is the only source of real revenue.

I think getting into a debate about the minutia concerning the modern capitalist economics does not serve the purpose for this post.
The source of revenue for NASA comes from a combination of private sector as well as government sector money. In that federal employees pay taxes.
This post is more about the terrible tax dodging done by corporations in an effort to avoid paying taxes.
The why is important but should it be less important than the what?
What is happening is that, Burger King is going to receive all the benefits of a company in the US without paying for it. The employees can't do this but the corporations can and it is not right. I don't care how much the board does not agree with the tax code. You do not pack up and head for Canada.
