I just read an article in this mornings local paper. The article was a story about cutting the STAR program, on the recommendation of Dr. Varlya Lee. According to the story Dr. Varlya Lee does not feel the cost of STAR is worth it and the philosophy of the STAR program does not fit into the philosophy of the Liberty School board. After reading the article I just shook my head and thought how shameful this action was.
I am still shaking my head as I type and I wonder exactly why the school board would have a philosophy that does not fit for the STAR program. Does the Liberty county school system have a problem with discipline.
This action by the board of education is unacceptable! Our children are worth the cost and in middle school, because of society and the grow lack of discipline and order, our children need this program.
The program has a high success rate and in comparison to all other activities done by the school system this one is an inexpensive way to keep at risk youth out of jail.
I am still shaking my head. I just cannot believe this program was cut.
I am in shock at how the program was cut. The board did not reach out to the parents of middle school students before acting. If you read the article you will also see that the board also, did not reach out to the STAR program until they let them know that they were fired.
Why did the board act this way? Well, probably because the knew and they know that they are wrong!
This board does not deserve to be the board of education if the parents do not vote these people out in the next election we stand to see more and more cuts that will hurt our children.
