why is this not defined?

Recently the news is dominated with headlines about the war in Gaza.

Hamas fires rockets and abducts Israelis. The Israeli army strikes back with rockets and invasions into the Gaza strip to destroy the terror tunnels.

The death toll climbs. Truces are made then cease fires and we see the cease fires fail and truces fall apart. Each side claims the other is a terrorist organization and that the other side is acting as a terrorist organization would.

This drama seems to unfold every decade and yet the United Nations has not yet defined Terrorism. Why is that? some say that a big part of the problem the United Nations has come to as far as defining terrorism is with the members of the group. The standoff is with the Organization of Islamic Conference. The organization basically wants the UN to exclude armed militants who are trying to liberate themselves through conflict.

I wonder why terrorism is so hard to define but I do so from a position of one who has never suffered with occupation.
I wonder would I exchange my morals and definition of terrorism if I was living in an occupied state.

Reads like an Hamas or Chechnya recruitment dilemma you are experiencing.

In my book that makes you a terrorist prospect.

I suggest you just maybe should flip a coin. By so doing it will get you off that fence sitting 'wonder what I'd do' confusion you are exhibiting.

Problem solved!

uh o a terrorist prospect I hope not.
Personally I feel like anyone who would harm a child for any reason should be defined as a terrorist.
I can't think of any scenario that I would endorse harming a child.

Terrorism is so difficult to define throughout the world because the various factions refuse to agree on who to apply the label to. One man's "terrorist" is another man's "freedom fighter."

They have been fighting in the Middle East for millennia based upon religious, ethic, and land squabbles. Their way of life is to kill their enemies, and their primary religion (Islam) supports this. This is one of the problems with fighting our so-called "wars" in Iraq and Afghanistan. We think freedom, democracy, and self-determination are the ideals to which a society should strive. In Islamic societies, they believe that Christians are their mortal enemies who have stolen their land and murdered their ancestors.

The ends - to include committing suicide - justify the means for them, and what we see as "terrorism" they see as self-defense, justice, or retribution. In this case, the old adage applies: you can't reason with a lunatic, especially when you are philosophically on different planets.

Are you saying that the Islam religion is violent and therefore the followers have no hope of peace?
I certainly hope this is not true. The growth of Islam worldwide has been huge. If this is the case.. who knows what will happen
