Nice spin,Sebe. The truth is the Government under EVERY administration has been sticking it to Veterans and Americans for years. Michael Moore's film SICKO in 2007 showed these same disparities in health care amongst the American populace and terrorists incarcerated at GITMO under W the Boy King's reign. ACA is designed to address this TWO PARTY failure regarding health care.
Spin? This retired Navy commander is laying the problem exactly where it should be placed: ON THE DESK OF THE CURRENT COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF.
It is no excuse to say "everybody has done it" - especially when you have been as hypocritical as Obama the Senator who identified the exact problem; and Obama the Candidate who pledged to FIX IT.
Ron Fournier says it best in his article titled: "Quiz: How Dumb Does Obama Think We Are?"
Here's the operative part:
"In Obama's defense, he inherited a dysfunctional VA, and the agency has been overwhelmed by veterans returning from two wars he is winding down. But he pledged to reform the VA after blasting the Bush administration in 2007. Instead of getting better, the health care bureaucracy has worsened and become corrupted. Long delays are covered up and veterans are dying while awaiting care.
It's a policy travesty magnified by an insulting public relations strategy."
And as evidenced by Moore's film SICKO, as noted above, this has been a fire burning out of control during many administrations, Republican and Democrat. It is just politically expedient to now blame this tragedy on the present Democratic incumbent POTUS. This is NOT solely the fault of Democrats nor this present POTUS.
It's convenient now for Republicans to be screaming like banshees and blaming any and all fault with Government and services to Veterans and other Americans. It plays well to their core base. And lest we forget, those mid-term elections are rapidly approaching. Might as well pile on the cow dung while there exists 'opportunity' to do so.
No, it is not solely the problem of Democrats, but DEMOCDRATS ARE IN CONTROL NOW - and it is not an excuse to say "it has always been that way." This issue is consistent with the way the Democrats deal with most social issues, i.e., take care of the perpetrators better than the way they take care of the victims; nothing is anybody's fault, and if we just throw more money at the problem it will go away; and if not, then it's BUSH'S FAULT.
I respectfully disagree. I am not making 'excuses'. I am merely noting the reality of the situation. The ACA is an attempt to try and rectify this ongoing travesty. Fanning the partisan political fires is an opportunistic ploy of the Conservative Right and Anti-Obmama-ites.
Jimmy may I respectfully add that Obama didn't fix the VA problems that were specificly given to him is because he was too busy blowing up the building instead of fixing the hole in the roof. In regards to healthcare(UCA).
The reality of the situation is that on this issue, OBAMA IS HOLDING THE BAG. He has had five years to deal with a problem he identified as a Senator and as a Presidential candidate, and the problem has only gotten exponentially WORSE.
The only reason Obama fired Shinseki is that he was boxed in by OVERWHELMING public opinion. The American people no longer trust his judgment, and he FINALLY got the message and did what WE THE PEOPLE wanted. Hopefully this will be a harbinger of things to come over the next 2 1/2 years. It will help if the GOP takes over the Senate in November.
In retrospect, Shinseki was the absolute WRONG ANSWER to lead the VA. He's the guy who active duty Army folks will remember ordered the DUMB change to black berets. Finally - after he was gone from active duty but still in D.C. - the Army got a Chief of Staff with the guts to overturn the policy. Shinseki was told by just about everyone that making the change was a stupid idea, but he did it anyway because he could. (Sound familiar? He's Obama's type of guy.) Fortunately for veterans everywhere, he's out of there. Let's all hope the replacement isn't just another bureaucratic/crony appointment like Shinseki, Geithner, Holder, etc.
Here's more proof of "Obama Lies"!
Yes - the situation is terrible. The problem is that Senator and Candidate Obama acknowledged the problem prior to his election as President, and then his transition team was reminded by the Bushies in 2009. So what was such a HORRIBLE problem was allowed to fester for five-plus years. AND NOW THEY BLAME BUSH?
We The People ain't buying it.
The problem has been known for quite some time to members of Congress who have a record of not passing funding or remedial measures to address the VA tragedy. The buzzards regarding the VA are not ONLY coming home to roost NOW. They have been flying in and out of the Republican dominated Congressional windows for YEARS prior to Obama.
That is real and it is the truth.
Obama is the President. He knew about the problem before he became president: he pounded Bush on it repeatedly, and made it an issue in his first campaign. Then when he got elected: NOTHING.
Obama brags about doing things with a phone and a pen. If he REALLY cared about the problems in the VA system, he would have used his phone and pen. Instead, he chose to focus on homosexuality, climate change, and ObamaCare - three "initiatives" that ranked EXTREMELY low on the priority of the American people in general, and near ZERO on the priority scale of the military and veterans in specific.
Democrats use the military for social experiments and pay lip service to their needs when it suits the Dems political objectives. Period. Veterans and the military know who has their backs, and who stabs them in the back. The VA scandal and the "prisoner exchange" fiascoes precisely demonstrate reality for the Democrats.
