Many of us were outraged when the Voting Rights Act of 1965 and Affirmative Action were declared 'no longer relevant' by many on the Right. Not necessary anymore as we now have a level playing field, they said. I remember stressing at the time that the roots of Racism run deep in many and it is NOT dead. Repealing the Voting Rights Act amounted to a tar and feathering of rights for minorities that had to be earned by beatings, water hoses, and death being inflicted upon them by white supremacists. The depths of this Racism, I think, still are not totally cognizant to many. It is almost in the very DNA of some caucasion folks passed from one generation to the next. (see Phil Robertson and his progeny.) Not to mention our 'local' friends over in Ludowici who wanted to inform the voter electorate not to Re-Nig, referring to the POTUS. I have seen redneck racism up close having lived in the south all my life. But, it turns out Racism is just not a Redneck malady. Even billionaire white folks awash in privilege and opportunity living outside the South carry the mindsets of a 1855 Slave Owner. Please see clip below because the Cancer of Racism has not yet been cut out of some of our souls.

Donald Sterling is a white Billionaire racist of the highest order. He 'owns' the Black Basketball Player on his NBA team the L.A. Clippers. Or so he thought. Those men were his n*****s. His disgraceful racist rants are astonishing to behold in 2014.

Thankfully he is caught on tape and is receiving a punishment that is richly deserved. Even if he is a Billionaire.

@gacpl. So were the Democrat slave owners in 1855.

JimmyMack commented on Tuesday, Apr 29, 2014 at 17:07 PM

@gacpl. Just so you know, racist's many times wear a social mask. One face for the public but one which they swiftly remove when they feel comfortable around like minded people.

I appreciate you input.

If for nothing else, we have now found a paramour for Ann Coulter...Donald Sterling.

So the question of the day is; when do we rescind of modify Affirmative Action quotas and race based advantage? What is the benchmark? Is it when racism does not exist? Is it when the "right" amount of minorities are balanced in colleges and the workforce? What is a tangible benchmark? What about all black universities? Is there an issue if there are not enough or any white people on the roles? To even mention slavery as a reason to maintain affirmative action is a cop-out. It's done, over, and gone in the United States. As long as comparisons continue to be likened with the 1800's it will never get to point where it is an educational discussion as opposed to blaming your current plight on slavery.

Racism does exist and will exist for all time. Contrary to popular belief it is not just the "white man" who is racist. It exists at levels of society and is crude and ugly no matter what ethnicity is perpetrating that kind of behavior.

The black man is not a victim in this day and age; vast opportunities exist and affirmative action further creates advantages. The irony is that it is ok if another ethnicity is left out in the process. It's a double standard and has been for years.

Affirmative action hurts race relations. When a person is provided an advantage strictly on skin color; how can it not cause animosity? All ethnicities should be evaluated on merit and accomplishment; not sexual orientation, skin color, or religious beliefs.

Until we begin to judge the person and not the color there will be no advancement for anyone.

The guy from the Clippers is an idiot; he got exactly what he deserved. I wonder however if a black owner were to state that he wishes there weren't as many white people at the game how would it pan out? At the end of the day most people are victims of themselves and their actions. It's time we quit being politically correct and call a duck a duck and quit blaming all of our woes on past circumstances and forced perception.

While records may show Sterling as a "registered Republican," he is only on record as having donated to Democratic Party candidates - but none recently - to wit:

"According to records obtained by the independent data research tool Littlesis.org – maintained by the Public Accountability Initiative – the owner of the LA Clippers embroiled in controversy has only donated to Democratic candidates.

Between 1990 and 1992 Donald Sterling made a $2,000 donations to the former New Jersey Senator Bill Bradley, a $1000 donation to current Vermont Senator Patrick Leahy, as well as a $1000 donation to the recalled former governor of California Gray Davis. Despite having a 100% track record of donating to Democrats, Littlesis.org has no records of him donating to either of President Barack Obama’s election campaigns."

See: http://dailycaller.com/2014/04/26/rac...

Further, his (soon to be former) business - the LA Clippers - operates in one of the "bluest" states there is: California.

But regardless, I agree with this Washington Post article which headlines:

"Donald Sterling is a Republican and has given money to Democrats. His politics don’t matter."

See: http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/t...

In this case, no they don't. A lot is being made now of the conservative media's "error" in identifying this dirt bag as a "registered Democrat." They got it wrong. They deserve criticism. But the devil in this story is STERLING. The NBA was absolutely correct to ban him for life. See the latest on this here:

The latest is that Sterling apparently intends to fight the ban and is insisting his team is "not for sale." The media speculation is that if he fights the ban, the proceedings could be tied up in the courts for years:

http://www.foxnews.com/sports/2014/04...

But regardless, he won't be able to fight THIS ban:

Some people look at Affirmative Action as a "black" thing and its not. All may not agree with it but it helps all minorities and WOMEN of all races. You never here a white person complain about it when it gives a female in there family the so called advantage.

There is no such thing as an all black university. There are historically black colleges and universities just like there are historically white colleges and universities.

Take UGA for example, blacks were not allowed to attend until the 1960's, it was founded in the 1700's that would make it historically white.

Racism is taught. No one is born a racist. As long as adults teach children these things it will be around forever.

As for Sterling his words and actions finally caught up with him. This is not a new thing for him. He has been this way for years if you listen to anyone around the NBA...

It just occurred to me.

While Sterling certanly and obviously is some kind of idiot having no place owning a professional sports team, I think Ray Rice is, well, worse. Sterling is getting the attention and drawing the ire he deserves (and then some) to be sure. But what about Ray Rice? Surely what he was caught on video doing is much worse than anything a man said, isn't it? Sure it's been mentioned and covered, but there is NOWHERE NEAR the outrage, and he just started his OTA's with Baltiomore. What does that say about our society? We champion removing an owner for uttering racial slurs and then turn a blind eye and deaf ears to the fact that a man who beat the daylights out of a woman and drug her by the hair like a caveman still has his job. I think we ought to be mad; real mad. Why are we not? How about it ladies? You all certainly should be, if nobody else.

Maybe it's just me.

Late to the comment box here..

I think this would be a lot clearer if they handed out life time bans for every time in the NBA called someone one a:

1. Ni**er
2. Creacker
3. slant eye
4. fag/homo/gueer

Well hell lets look at other sports! The NFL needs to puts all of their games on a delay, never know what you might hear with those mic that can pick up a word from across the field. What about the owner of the Redskins, is he going to get a life time ban for refusing to change that name?

Why is Stearling being held above all the owners/players/coaches/sports and fans. He pays his players competitively, as well as his coaches. I do not recall hearing anything about this until the tapes were released.

Do I agree with what he said NO, was it rude and disrespectful absolutely, but I do not agree with him being made an example of and being forced to sell the team.
