Strike two for the brilliant foreign policy ineptitude of the current administration. He has stated that the US has the ability to "contain" further issues on the Asian Peninsula. So that means we can keep North Korea from conducting anymore nuclear testing/becoming a nuclear state, protect Japan from China's current course, and my favorite; that The US assures them that we can "handle" China...

Wow, two days in a row; two days of making promises we can't keep and further destabilizing our nations stature and security. We are getting to a point where the US is not considered relevant on the world stage. The current foreign policy failures continue to de-stabilize our status and isolate us more and more with each misstep. It might be borderline ok if we were only having deteriorating issues with non-allied countries however; we have also alienated a good number of our allies which further endangers our security.

WE having nothing left that could be considered "clout" on the world stage anymore. The world knows we are a country of words as opposed to deeds and in many situations we will stand down. At least Bush only had a couple of countries disillusioned with us; Wonder Boy has managed to piss off the whole world...

Yes - our clout is gone. Past Presidents used to get out of the country and go on "foreign tours" when things were bad at home. Perhaps that is part of Mr. Obama's motivation for his current excursion to Asia. But when those who used to be strong allies turn, it is a true indication of world standing. I know of no honest assessment from any unbiased source which says the United States is now held in higher esteem than we were in 2008. Our foreign policy shifts and general withdrawal from being a reliable ally have resulted in a weaker position throughout the world across the board.

But we are fortunate in one regard: the four year term/two term limit of our president has provided a relatively short window for damage to be done - both foreign and domestic. Throughout history, we have been able to rebound from whatever dumb stuff our president has gotten us into (or out of). Hopefully this will be the case this time.
