Why Blacks Vote Democratic-Republican Racism

I’m so sick and tired of modern-day Republicans, “Well, Lincoln freed the slaves so blacks should vote Republican".

Have you ever heard of the “Southern Strategy”?
Do you understand that what WAS once the “republican party” is now the “Democratic Party”?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Southern_strategy

What was once the party of Lincoln, Booker T., and Martin is now the Democratic Party?

Whenever the topic of racism gets brought up between Democrats and Republicans, there are two facts you’ll almost always hear conservatives use to counter the belief that their party is full of racism:

President Abraham Lincoln was a Republican
The KKK was largely organized, and populated by, Democrats

And both are facts.

But when someone uses these two items as their defense that the Republican party isn’t loaded with racism, they’re only showing their ignorance about the reality of racism within their party.

It’s true, Southern Democrats were extremely racist. At the same time, Northern “liberal” Democrats and Republicans had already been working together to end discrimination and pushed for ending segregation.

See, in 1948, President Harry Truman made one of the boldest public moves by a Democrat towards Civil Rights for African Americans by creating the President’s Committee on Civil Rights, and ending discrimination in the military. At the Democratic National Convention in 1948 a call was made for civil rights—prompting at least 35 Southern delegates to walk out.

The moves by President Truman sparked the spread of equality in the South and left Southern white Democrats with a feeling that their party was abandoning their racist — and oppressive — system of beliefs.

Over the next decade, more and more Democrats began to embrace equality, passing the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965. And while more African Americans began to vote for Democrats, in the late-1960′s a new Republican strategy was put into place—the “Southern strategy.”

This was a plan that was first popularized by Richard Nixon.

What the “Southern strategy” essentially does is it identified the fact that African Americans were voting for Democrats, therefore Republicans decided they would make white voters more aware of this fact in hopes of driving the “white vote” towards the Republican party.

Doubt me? Let’s look at a comment from a 1970′s interview in the New York Times with Richard Nixon’s political strategist:

“From now on, the Republicans are never going to get more than 10 to 20 percent of the Negro vote and they don’t need any more than that…but Republicans would be shortsighted if they weakened enforcement of the Voting Rights Act. The more Negroes who register as Democrats in the South, the sooner the Negrophobe whites will quit the Democrats and become Republicans. That’s where the votes are. Without that prodding from the blacks, the whites will backslide into their old comfortable arrangement with the local Democrats.”

Essentially it was the Republican party saying, “Look, blacks are voting for Democrats so you white people need to vote for Republicans—the party that will represent whites and oppose the blacks.”

With this strategy, you saw the official shift of the Republican party from the “party of Lincoln” to the party which embraced white racism towards African Americans to solidify the white vote in the South.

So, yeah, it’s easy to say Lincoln was a Republican and the KKK was largely built by Democrats, but by doing so you only prove your own ignorance of history. You’re ignoring the fact that as Democrats evolved to embrace equality for African Americans, Southern racists were left looking for a new political party — and they found one that not only embraced their racism and bigotry, it sought it out.

And that party they found was the Republican party.

For the record blacks- not the only group voting Democratic. Obama won among women, post graduate studies, Asians, Moderates and the list goes on.

Alot of different people and races don't agree with you! The only people I know that lives in the past is the entitlement people...☺

@Sheran. You, Tot, and now ever so reluctantly for me to state: Sebe, are not only mis-interpreters of History authored by man, but of the Divinely Authored Good Book.

Now an Elbow from JimmyMack for you: Are you a drop-out like Tot also, or got raised in a repressive Catholic School, ever seen how Politics works up close and personal, or does your house have wheels on it, and do you now or your husband drive a Truck which maybe has a sticker on it somewhere that says: ROMNEY-RYAN?

Feel free to shoot back.

PoliticsNation commented on Tuesday, Mar 04, 2014 at 09:26 AM

@Jimmy-I don't watch the videos Sheran post or respond to them because I know who she is and what she stands for. The crew you named above- been walking around with that hateful mentality for decades. It's sad but they don't know any other way to think. Take a good look at the time Sheran posted her comment..No peace, can't sleep and miserable with her current situation. The rest of the crew-getting old-see the world changing before their eyes-midlife crisis and grasping for straws. Hate never wins.

@ Jimmy-Oh!rest assure Seb will come on the site after he completes his chores like a loose cannon or scorned lover- posting 3 and 4 blogs that he posted earlier this month (same crap-different title) to push other blogs to the back.

Than the house guest..(Funk) will arrive on site to back his master (Seb)...Sit back and watch the 1920's stage play.

JimmyMack commented on Tuesday, Mar 04, 2014 at 09:45 AM

@PN. House... 'guest' is a very kind way to refer to Funk. I, too, am aware of my friend, Sebe's, tsunami posting tactics and when the carpet bombing is set to begin.

I will join with you in watching the forthcoming Show.

" Sebe, are not only mis-interpreters of History authored by man, but of the Divinely Authored Good Book."

I QUOTED history and The Good Book. I did not "interpret" or "mis-interpret" it. Sheran is correct. Those who deny historical fact have their own agenda - which is obviously to bury their own misdeeds and use the distorted logic that "The other guy is worse than me, so I am your friend."

PN: I suspected that sooner or later you would resort to name-calling when you had no logical arguments. I can't say I'm surprised, but I am disappointed.

And I know you don't bother to read my "crap" - except perhaps the title - because if you did you'd see that when I repeat myself, I ACKNOWLEDGE it. And some of my blogs may be on similar themes, but the content is almost always new, updated, or an added interpretation.

Take a look at your own blogs. You either 1) attack Republicans or (2 defend Democrats. Isn't that "same crap, different title?"

If you don't like the content of my blogs, that's your problem. But you're always invited to comment and participate in the dialogue. And I won't refer to your comments as "crap," or to you personally with name-calling.

Politics, Religion, and Sex. The PRS rule for keeping the conversation civil.
Also for good measure...Race and Money.
All are powder kegs.

As I see it, as long as none of us revert to posting and blogging Murellet style...we will all get out of this.

A TRUE Savage, she was.

conversation kept civil by AVOID open discussion of them...except between those of like mind.

@Seb-I didn't call anyone out of their name. However, I didn't appreciate your comment about me. "I'm sure you inspire a lot of men"...I was offended by the comment so I had to bring the heat today. We are even-let's move forward my friend. For the record-I do read your post and truth be told we both get carried away every now and then. Your blog friend..PN

sebekm commented on Wednesday, Mar 05, 2014 at 16:36 PM

I, too, consider you to be a blogging friend. The only thing I was taking exception to was the characterization of comments as "crap." I guess I'm a bit picky (persnickety?), but I do believe what I say 100% and even though someone else disagrees with it I'd never call their opinion or comments "crap." Perhaps some people don't see any difference between the words "propaganda," "spin" "change-the-subject" and "obfuscate" and the word "crap." But I do (and I believe you do, too.) I'd just as soon bury this one as well. But you did "inspire" me once again to produce one of my most well-researched pontifications on a subject we've recently discussed here. I'll put it up on the board shortly.

As for my comment about you inspiring a lot of men, I actually meant that as a compliment. But I do assume that you are a woman, and that as such probably feel that inspiring men is not a bad thing. I guess I shouldn't make assumptions. I apologize for the offense you felt. Believe me, of all the things I've said in our exchanges on this board the LAST thing I ever expected you to take offense to was that you inspire men.

My bad.....

PoliticsNation commented on Wednesday, Mar 05, 2014 at 16:42 PM

@Seb you are too much. I apologize for offending you and calling your blogs crap.

Funkentelecky commented on Thursday, Mar 06, 2014 at 11:50 AM

PN who and what is a house guest are you being a covert bigot or racist? And when did Chief become my master? These statements can be taken as you calling me a house nigger and Chief as my slave master. This is a classic example of how Liberal Democrats can get away with anything they say even when it isn't true! I've been blogging on this site since 2008 and I'm no guest and Chief isn't my master!

Funkentelecky commented on Thursday, Mar 06, 2014 at 11:54 AM

Jimmy, this is the example that I don't understand. Didn't you realize that PN's statement about me and Chief was totally inappropriate?

Funkentelecky commented on Thursday, Mar 06, 2014 at 11:57 AM

PN, since you're so open minded I challenge you to study the NBRA site I'm sure that it would balance out your thought process about the actual truth of black history and oppression.

sebekm commented on Thursday, Mar 06, 2014 at 17:32 PM

"@Seb you are too much. I apologize for offending you and calling your blogs crap."

PN: Perhaps I'm just being too picky as I've been taking a hemoccult test for the past few days and the term hit home. (True - Ha Ha) I enjoy our sparring and admire your defense of what you believe is right. As I said in one of our "private conversations" awhile back: don't let any of the butt-heads around here (including me) get you down or stifle your expression of what YOU believe is right.

Funkentelecky commented on Thursday, Mar 06, 2014 at 22:28 PM

And thanks Chief for calling PN out in a polite way!

PN, the ball is in your park and I have asked you the questions without accusing you and also presented how I perceived your comments. What say you?

PoliticsNation commented on Thursday, Mar 06, 2014 at 23:10 PM

@funk-your right that's what I really wanted to say. I don't understand how you support people throwing the N word around. That word Carries blood, tears, death and disrespect to most. I don't care if you head the tea party tomorrow-you are still a man of color. You are smart hardworking and successful but you and I both know that if you supported Obama today you would become another N. I've learned that black folks are only good enough to most when their tearing each other down. Vote how you choose, support who you want but don't get caught up in the disrespect. We have different views but more alike than you think.

Funkentelecky commented on Friday, Mar 07, 2014 at 11:33 AM

PN, I don't support people using the "N" word and if you can give me an example of it I will correct that statement. My mother taught me not to lie cheat and steal, this was re-inforced in my 21 years service in the military we were all GREEN. So I'm not going to sacrifice my integrity or support anyone that doesn't follow the rule of law regardless of skin color. This is how you be fair to everyone when you're a leader. Someone's always gonna hate you; however your actual record of fairness (Rule of Law)will set you free in the eyes of God and the people. Yes there are some people that just hate BHO because of the color of his skin, and there are some that have finally figured out he is a bad policy maker and a weak leader. I'm not doubting any of your personal experiences because I've had similar experiences too. I'm just holding Obama to his words and actions that don't follow rule of law.

I don't think the social ill named racism is something simple enough to label with one party or another. When this is done it is usually done with the intention of polarizing the voting public.
There are racists republicans and racists democrats
