And the Liberals DID IT

Paul Harvey's IF I WERE THE DEVIL

If I were the devil . . .

I would gain control of the most powerful nation in the world;

I would delude their minds into thinking that they had come from man's effort, instead of God's blessings;

I would promote an attitude of loving things and using people, instead of the other way around;

I would dupe entire states into relying on gambling for their state revenue;

I would convince people that character is not an issue when it comes to leadership;

I would make it legal to take the life of unborn babies;

I would make it socially acceptable to take one's own life, and invent machines to make it convenient;

I would cheapen human life as much as possible so that the life of animals are valued more than human beings;

I would take God out of the schools, where even the mention of His name was grounds for a lawsuit;

I would come up with drugs that sedate the mind and target the young, and I would get sports heroes to advertise them;

I would get control of the media, so that every night I could pollute the mind of every family member for my agenda;

I would attack the family, the backbone of any nation.

I would make divorce acceptable and easy, even fashionable. If the family crumbles, so does the nation;

I would compel people to express their most depraved fantasies on canvas and movie screens, and I would call it art;

I would convince the world that people are born homosexuals, and that their lifestyles should be accepted and marveled;

I would convince the people that right and wrong are determined by a few who call themselves authorities and refer to their agenda as politically correct;

I would persuade people that the church is irrelevant and out of date, and the Bible is for the naive;

I would dull the minds of Christians, and make them believe that prayer is not important, and that faithfulness and obedience are optional;

I guess I would leave things pretty much the way they are.

I believe this was broadcast in 1965.

Now we have warped young minds going into schools and such to engage in mass killings.

The liberals are responsible.

Well...now its official Tot...you are on the yellow brick road to Dementia.

You have run this one BEFORE. You are repeating yourself. Memory going??

Anyway you ignoramus... The word LIBERAL in Harvey's Nostradamus un-God like narrative above NEVER APPEARS. The only place it Does Appear, you prejudiced cretin is IN YOUR HEAD and in the TITLE OF THE BLOG.

Stupid is as Stupid does Tot. In the area of Stupidity you are a certified old school genius.

No Jimmy, This just proves everyone is repeating everyone else's blog... There's a time to quit when you can't come up with your own blog and keep repeating or re-wording everyone else's blog...

Sheran thanks for posting this because I knew I'd never posted it before.

There are some of us who never address the issue of a particular discussion.

They simply attack the messenger while not ever addressing the message.

I will not engage in discussion with them other than copy and paste.

They never address the message but they continuously soil this blog site with a constant spewing of vile.

They enjoy saying hurtful things to others who participate.

Frequently they don't even know the identity of the subject they are addressing.

They are the ones who are driving away participants who come to the Courier Blog Site.

@tweedle dumb and tweedle dee above:

Yes my loved ones. There exists some of us who refuse to let this site become a bastion of Right Wing Oppression.

We are not going away.

JimmyMack commented on Sunday, Mar 02, 2014 at 08:40 AM

My written faux pas is nothing compared to the Bible Thumping misinterpreters of the Scriptures here on these pages in their efforts to re-inforce the false validity of their misconceptions.

Therein lies the true evil.

JimmyMack commented on Sunday, Mar 02, 2014 at 10:05 AM

The gist of my commentary was the word LIBERAL never was spoken by Harvey. It was just one of the many words Tot hears in his head along with all them other voices.

sebekm commented on Sunday, Mar 02, 2014 at 13:41 PM

Regardless of whether he actually said the word "liberal," there is ABSOLUTELY NO DOUBT of the ideology being described by Harvey. He certainly isn't describing the platform or the programs of the GOP.

In fact, Harvey's comparison of liberals and conservatives in his1966 article "Vote For Santa Claus - The Liberal Point Of View" still holds up very well today:

"I can understand the liberal point of view, can you?

As long as Americans applaud free enterprise but vote for Santa Claus, do you think any practical politician is going to vote against increased social security?

Also, conservatives always sound so anti-this and anti-that that young people, especially, come to see them as a bunch of old maid "antis."

The liberal says, "Look, the Russians want to be friends with us. Hallelujah!"

That is the kind of proclamation that you can welcome, cheer, vote for.

The conservative Wall Street Journal cautions, “Don’t let our guard down, don’t celebrate yet, don’t relax prematurely…”

What party poopers! Nuts to the joy killers!

One must back off a few chapters from contemporary history to recognize that the conservative “hand on the shoulder” has been a proper restraining influence on our nation’s affairs.

Whenever the liberal has decreed, “Let everybody eat cake!”, the conservative has cautioned that too much cake can make you sick.

That’s right, but what’s “right” is rarely popular. An election ago, this column sought to interpret then-prevailing political philosophies. Rereading my words of August 25, 1964, I see nothing has changed:

The conservative says, “Balance the budget.”

The liberal says “Don’t worry about it.”

The conservative says, “Balance the military establishment.”

The liberal says, “Let’s all disarm.”

The conservative says, “Inefficient farmers should do something else.”

The liberal says, “Subsidize ‘em.”

The conservative says, “We need a hard dollar.”

The liberal says, “A little inflation won’t hurt.”

The conservative says, “Taxpayers need relief.”

The liberal says, “The needy need relief.”

See: http://news.google.com/newspapers?nid...

Democrats – yes, LIBERALS – recognize that Harvey was a powerful voice of political moderation that was very effective in defining the American political center in his day. That’s why in recent times they have been very quick to demonize anybody who doesn’t parrot THEIR party line and political philosophies, lest that person become as trusted and influential in today’s media as Paul Harvey was back then.

The truth is that Paul Harvey was no liberal, that’s for sure. And America was much better off because of it.

JimmyMack commented on Sunday, Mar 02, 2014 at 16:24 PM

@Sebe. No, Harvey probably was not. He also did not cure Cancer or Polio. But he did appear adept at Nostradamus like political finger pointing predictions stated in authoritarian certitude.

He was a talking head that established the early form of the blame game later proved to be much more monetarily rewarding by it being replicated bombastically by another Radio personality...the reknowned round of mound...Rush GAS BAG Limbaugh.

sebekm commented on Monday, Mar 03, 2014 at 14:02 PM

He was also the best talking head of the 20th Century - and he spoke TRUTH.

JimmyMack commented on Tuesday, Mar 04, 2014 at 09:56 AM

Again Sebe, I am very suspicious of those professing that they hold the key to the TRUTH. It seems many on the Right do this frequently: Declare what is being said as the TRUTH, then slamming the doors and heading inside their compounds to waller in their infallible pontifications.

The rest of us Kool Aid drinkers, and party reveling sinners are then left out at a chance for Right Wing Redemption. Oh the horror of Life. The horror...

sebekm commented on Tuesday, Mar 04, 2014 at 13:09 PM

"I am very suspicious of those professing that they hold the key to the TRUTH."

You should be - especially when it is a political party who holds onto power through lies, deceit and bribery. Tell me - of the Paul Harvey article I quoted above where he characterizes conservatives and liberals, specifically WHICH of his contentions do you disagree with - and WHY?

JimmyMack commented on Wednesday, Mar 05, 2014 at 11:03 AM

Simple Sebe. Harvey displays ALL his 'charactersations' of Liberals in typical Conservative light. Cartoonish depictions.(see above.) Especially when placed next to Conservative 'TRUTHS.'

LIBERALS: Foolish and silly.
CONSERVATIVES: Wise and speak TRUTH.

That takes care of your queries of WHICH and WHY.

Now, Harvey goes further in his bias per Harvey above: "Democrats-yes LIBERALS-recognize that Harvey was a powerful voice of political moderation that was very effective in defining the American center in his day." Really Sebe??

Don't know where you got hold of that TRUTH?!(FOX News?) Anyway, Harvey was an early egotistic Conservative who viewed himself as the Ward Cleaver of Radio voicing the perspective of those "Good Ole Days," the Gold Standard of the Right. He mostly went unchallenged during his time post McCarthyism. He would be chewed up and spit out regarding his privileged (he got to drink his wa-wa from the WHITE fountain, not the COLORED fountain) caucasion right wing views today.(think Bill Maher or Rachel Maddow, or Keith Olberman here)

But you are right in pointing out his uniqueness. His uniqueness just happens to be that he was one if not the first American Talk Radio Conservative Hate-Meisters.

"Now, Harvey goes further in his bias per Harvey above: "Democrats-yes LIBERALS-recognize that Harvey was a powerful voice of political moderation that was very effective in defining the American center in his day." Really Sebe??"

Jimmy - the Harvey quote stops BEFORE the link. See the link itself. The comments AFTER the link (your quote above) are MINE. It is MY contention that liberals recognized that Harvey was a powerful voice of political moderation that was very effective in defining the American political center in his day. That is my considered judgment based upon MY life's experience and MY following and study of American politics over the past 50 years. Fox News has nothing to do with it. As I have said before, I don't watch their political analysis and don't run with their herd. The comments you quoted are MY truth.

JimmyMack commented on Thursday, Mar 06, 2014 at 10:06 AM

@Sebe. My bad. I will adjust my comment that it is then You who goes further in justifying Harvey's bias. I apologize.

sebekm commented on Thursday, Mar 06, 2014 at 17:33 PM

No problem. Sometimes my voluminous and sanctimonious pontificating confuses even me.
