As a United States Army Retiree, and Vietnam veteran with some remaining healthcare benefits, I am forced, with all other retirees, and veterans to use the Winn Army Hospital Pharmacy & Abuse Facility located in the old post exchange building. I recommend this facility post their official motto in large bold letters, above the pharmacy windows, reading "We Serve Ourselves". The facility personnel are definitely not serving retirees, veterans, and dependents. Yesterday, Feb 6, 2014 the pharmacy was packed full of such. Only 1 window was open, when 4 are available. The pharmacy roboton, aka "human capital" moved with the speed of a turtle, often absenting himself from his perch for minutes at a time. Now, the aforementioned customer is required to obtain a number from a kiosk, if working properly, upon entering the facility. He or she must wait for the said number to be announced over the Public Address System. This could take 30 minutes to an hour. Once the number is called, the lucky customer, having not committed suicide, or left the facility in disgust, proceeds to the "single" window and told once again to have a seat, "if waiting", for their prescription to be filled and their number to be announced again. This also could take anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour. Once the number is called a 2nd time, the aforementioned customer/veteran, having not yet committed suicide, or left the facility proceeds back to the window, and with some luck receives their prescription before the pain of withdrawal sets in. Such was not the case for my spouse, who suffered through my 3 tours in Southease Asia, and 2 tours in Europe. So, after waiting an hour she was informed that the pharmacy did not stock her medication. This was not just FIASCO, it was FUBAR!

I am so sorry bootstrap. You and yours deserve better treatment than that which you described above. Cattle are treated better. All veterans deserve much more courtesy and respect than is presently demonstrated by the Army Medical\Service Delivery system.

Thank you for having the courage to voice your opinion. In my experience, sometimes shining a light on situations can effect change.

I am sure you probably have given voice to what many others have experienced.

Don't give up.

My husband went to pick up his medicine from the pharmacy located at the mini mall/Marcos Pizza and ended up helping a veteran inside because he couldn't open the door. If the furniture store is closed those doors are locked and a person in a wheel chair has no way to enter the building. If a person is wheelchair bound-wanted to pick up a slice of pizza or ice cream at that location on Sunday they're out of luck. They have to wait outside until someone opens the door for them. Also the restrooms at the pharmacy location are awful.

Where is the Right?

Where is the Right?

@Jimmy-Celebrating Regan's Birthday.

What’s factually amazing is that two liberals whom I believe wholeheartedly mean well, but are literally wrong and are actually a part of and promotes the title of this blog, ”Falling on Deaf Ears.” Here’s why, the problems that boostrap01 is encountering was already there in 2004 when I retired and from his own words I can surmise that it’s gotten even worse since Obama has taken office and having grown the government which intent is to means well too but actually picks winners and losers resulting in retiree’s getting screwed at the pharmacy by waiting ridiculous for long periods of time to be served their prescription drugs. I did this too in 2004 and 2005 and decided to get a doctor in free market from my employer which resulted in more efficient and quicker services for appointments, prescriptions, etc, etc, etc for me and my family. Words have little meaning when you haven’t actually walked in another person’s shoes. So both of you aren’t really supporting bootstrap01 unless you are calling for smaller government, it doesn’t matter if you’re left/right/straight/gay/black/white or whatever. It’s just realizing the principles of America and how this great nation was built in allowing all the “Pursuit of Happiness” Just saying you are sorry and helping someone at a pharmacy is a good individual gesture, but if you want it to be spread out even more without punishing individuals for their personal success. Government needs to be smaller and more transparent.

FYI.

Celebrating Reagan’s birthday and what he accomplished through true leadership with divided government was intended to re-emphasize the failure of Obama in regards to bootstrap01’s misfortunes. I get reminders when my meds are ready to re-order and I only wait from 5-15 minutes max.

Thanks in advance!

Not so, my friend Funk. You are repeating the mantra of the Tea Partiers within the Republican Party. Now if you want to see smaller, and I truly mean SMALLER government and the resulting utter and complete lack of services to not only Vets but EVERYBODY, then give these draconian budget cutters a spin at the wheel. Tea Party on, my friend.

Also, attempting to wrap PN and JimmyMack's empathy regarding bootstrap's plight, into a Right Wing diatribe of the Left is disingenuous and wrongly dismissive of two expressions by two genuinly concerned Liberal Activists.

Funkentelecky commented on Sunday, Feb 09, 2014 at 12:56 PM

Jimmy, I clearly stated that you and PN are genuine and mean well; however the fact of the matter from my personal life experiences is that your activism towards bigger government intrusion into our personal lives leads to these type of unintended consequences. I personally thank you and PN for your empathy and caring. Did you know retired vets wait so long because active duty is the priority in the waiting room for services? A solution would be to channel vets services for prescriptions to Walgreens, CVS, etc, etc, so they don't have to wait in line so long.

sebekm commented on Sunday, Feb 09, 2014 at 13:15 PM

I suspect that channeling those prescriptions "to the outside" would have its downside as well. They would probably charge at least a co-pay and the lines/wait time would increase there as well.

Bootstrap01's experiences do not mirror my own. I have used both the WACH and the PX pharmacies extensively over the past 15 years. I have found the service there to be - in the "vast majority of cases" - superior to that which I have experienced at non-military pharmacies, especially considering what you have to pay for medications at these locations (i.e., NOTHING).

No service organization is perfect, and the ones who genuinely want to help people (as MTFs and their satellite facilities do) generally have a method for resolving complaints. I have availed myself of this over the years, with generally good results. Every military organization has a chain of command, and I would start there with my complaint.

Hi Funk. I can only speak for myself. I am not necessarily for BIGGER government, but I am for efficiently run and streamlined services to Americans and eliminating fraud and abuse. I believe I AM my brother's keeper and helping the weak, poor, hungry and powerless among us is morally appropriate for government to do than say....giving tax breaks to millionaires. I need not quote scripture to you here Funk regarding our responsibility to the poor and destitute. It is available in the back of your Bible or concordance and can guide you to the appropriate verses. There is also some references regarding odds on the rich making it into heaven. Good reading. Liberals have Bibles and many of us read them.

I interpret your words above regarding myself and PN as "genuine and mean well," and then tying them to a negative big government endorsement, might as well read like the old saying: "that the road to hell is paved with good intentions."

Kinda like an implication that Liberals such as we, are cult like personas selling some good sounding magic potion words that end up taking everyone to Hell.

I do not buy that definition of myself.

from the right. we hear you load and clear BootStrap, without tearing down the left to impress you.

Funkentelecky commented on Sunday, Feb 09, 2014 at 16:49 PM

I apologize to you Jimmy because my intent isn’t what you interpreted so that my bad and I fess up to it. However here is an example of what I mean, Obamacare was passed on partisan lines by a Democrat Super Majority that didn’t listen to the people “Polls” or the Republicans. So much that was said about it has come true and is bad policy and bad for the country.”The Law” not the intent. Yet you and PN still support it which is wrong because even Obama don’t support it because he keep changing it when he doesn’t even have the constitutional authority to do so. His job as President is to enforce the laws on the books. Divided government is not working and what Obama needs is the same thing that brought best out of Bill Clinton. A Republican takeover of congress so that we may have a check and balance on Obama.

JimmyMack commented on Monday, Feb 10, 2014 at 08:23 AM

You don't have to apologize to me Funk. You are just stating your views, and I respect that and you very much. We both seem to be political creatures and I enjoy the give and take. For the record, I KNOW that I, JimmyMack, can be very venomous towards the right and I do regret at times some of the things I throw at people. But, many times I don't regret any of it. Especially if the one I am firing at is hiding behind an anonymous profile. Those folks are eligible for every poison tipped verb, noun, adjective and adverb that I have in my arsenal.

Bullies, Bullies, Rule

It's my humble opinion that bullies are alive, well, and flourishing in Liberty County Schools. What do I base my opinion on? Well, here goes. My 12 year old grand-daughter does not want to go to school because of one boy continues asking her for a date. My grand-daughter declined ...

Hinesville is a Renaissance City
February 08, 2013
Oh what Jeff Foxworthy could do with this article. Let's think about this for a second. Let's see, there's drainage ditch ski-ing, Hover-round chair driving obstacle course, auto speeding/reckless driving in Hinesville's neighborhoods, especially on North Maple Drive. Then there's cow-patty football tournaments, and also denture wearing, in-the-mouth, rattling exhibitions. ...
