Bush (Iraq War) Vs.Obama (Obamacare) -- Who 'Lied'

When the weapons hunters failed to find stockpiles of weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, so began one of the greatest slanders on a president in history: “Bush lied, people died.”
Never mind that, in building the case for war in Iraq, President George W. Bush relied on the unanimous opinion of all 16 U.S. intelligence agencies.
Never mind that the bipartisan Robb-Silberman commission examined the intelligence on which Bush relied, and unanimously found that "the Intelligence Community did not make or change any analytic judgments in response to political pressure. … We conclude that it was the paucity of intelligence and poor analytical tradecraft, rather than political pressure, that produced the inaccurate pre-war intelligence assessments."
Never mind that Bush retained the same CIA director, George Tenet, who served under Bill Clinton. Tenet gave Bush the same intelligence assessment: that Saddam Hussein, the dictator of Iraq, possessed WMD is a “slam dunk.” Indeed, according to The Washington Post’s Bob Woodward, Bush was initially skeptical of the intelligence that reached that conclusion. When, on December 21, 2002, Tenet laid out the intelligence purportedly showing the existence of WMD stockpiles, Bush said, “This is the best we’ve got?”
Never mind that former secretary of State Hillary Clinton, then a New York senator, was particularly adamant about the threat posed by Saddam: "In the four years since the inspectors left, intelligence reports show that Saddam Hussein has worked to rebuild his chemical- and biological-weapons stock, his missile-delivery capability and his nuclear program. … If left unchecked, Saddam Hussein will continue to increase his capacity to wage biological and chemical warfare, and will keep trying to develop nuclear weapons.”
Finally, never mind about then-President Bill Clinton’s Persian Gulf expert on the National Security Council, Kenneth Pollack. While he opposed the war’s timing, Pollack said “no one doubted” Saddam’s stockpiles of WMD: "The intelligence community convinced me and the rest of the Clinton Administration that Saddam had reconstituted his WMD programs following the withdrawal of the U.N. inspectors, in 1998, and was only a matter of years away from having a nuclear weapon. ... Other nations' intelligence services were similarly aligned with U.S. views. ... Germany ... Israel, Russia, Britain, China and even France held positions similar to that of the United States. ... In sum, no one doubted that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction."
“Bush lied, people died” -- or some version of it -- was uttered at the highest levels in the opposition party. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., called W. a “loser” and a “liar.” He later apologized -- for the “loser” part. Liar stands. The so-called Lion of the Senate, Ted Kennedy, bellowed, “Before the war, week after week after week after week, we were told lie after lie after lie after lie.”
If Bush is a “liar,” having relied in good faith on the unanimous opinion of the U.S. intelligence agencies, what do you call President Barack Obama? In building the case for Obamacare, Obama promised: “No matter how we reform health care, we will keep this promise to the American people:If you like your doctor, you will be able to keep your doctor. Period. If you like your healthcare plan, you will be able to keep your healthcare plan. Period. No one will take it away. No matter what.”
Did Obama “lie”?
Obama’s healthcare team, according to NBC News, knew that more than half of the people who buy their plans on the individual market would lose their plan: “Millions of Americans are getting or are about to get cancellation letters for their health insurance under Obamacare, say experts, and the Obama administration has known that for at least three years.”
NBC News’ sources estimated that 50 to 80 percent of Americans who buy individual insurance will find their policies cancelled, because those existing policies don’t meet Obamacare standards. And for many of those -- now forced to buy new policies -- the price tag will give them “sticker shock.”
The Affordable Care Act stated that an insurance policy in effect before March 23, 2010, was to be grandfathered in -- provided insurance companies have made no “significant change“ to the plan. But if the plan, say, had a change to the deductible, co-pay or benefits, the plan was no longer eligible to be grandfathered, and the policyholder would have to purchase a new plan.
Obamacare’s July 2010 regulations included an estimate that “40 to 67 percent” of customers wouldn’t be able to keep their policy because of normal annual turnover in the individual insurance market. And, because many policies will have been changed since the March 23, 2010, date, “the percentage of individual market policies losing grandfather status in a given year exceeds the 40 to 67 percent range.” Yet Obama continued to tell Americans that no one would lose their plan or doctor, a promise without which Obamacare would never have passed.
For his part, Obama now says: “What we said was, you can keep it if it hasn’t changed since the law passed.” A lie is an untruth told with intent to deceive.
Bush didn’t “lie.”

Happy New Year to all my fellow bloggers, I’ve been MIA and felt compelled to re-post a blog from November 8, 2013. While I was away TOT posted a blog called “Cheney’s Toy” on January 9th and gacpl posted a blog called” Four Americans Died, Obama Lied” I was unavailable to comment at the time because of a personal family tragedy. A couple of fellow bloggers and Obama advocates lent their opinions to these blogs by TOT and gacpl which I feel are uninformed at the least, because I was cautiously waiting for them to comment on my original blog back in November. I even posted on my last entry “PN and Jimmy, WRU?” Here is the original post and after reading it, remember that GWB is at the least a man of honor and integrity. He also went to Congress and received 75% approval to go to Iraq and use force. Ask yourselves did Obama do the same, because he is on record for saying that he would. And it has just been released that Obama and Hillary opposed the war for political reasons. I want a leader that supports the rules on the books and the US Constitution. I don’t care what party, color, sex, or religion they may be.

Hi Funk. I am very sorry for whatever tragedy you experienced within your family. I do not what you have had to endure but I hope that a prayerful healing and comforting has found its way to you and yours since the tragedy.

I find it extremely awkward to write or respond to your post above considering your circumstances. But, having said that, it appears that you desire such to happen and I will respect your wish.

My response is a simple one: Two wrongs do not make a right and it appears BOTH W. and BHO were victims of misinformation provided to them from the sources around them. I will also offer up this sad commentary regarding both 'mistakes' by these men: You can repeal a bad insurance policy but you cannot bring back the dead.

God Bless.

....UNLESS they died aa a result of bad insurance, no doctor, a bad doctor, no hospital that will take them, becoming financially insolvent due to astronmical insurance rates, dying from stress complications on top of all their other medical issues because of bad/lost insurance, etc., etc., etc.

JimmyMack commented on Monday, Jan 20, 2014 at 12:55 PM

Sebe, to my knowledge it is the law of the land that nobody can be denied medical treatment when presenting him or herself to a medical facility. You can condemn the ACA all you want but it hasn't played out yet. BESIDES, bad insurance, no doctor, bad hospitals (think LRMC here) ALREADY EXIST!!! Same for stress and complications regarding costly and catastrophic medical issues.

That's not news. It is the state we are in pre-ACA.

sebekm commented on Monday, Jan 20, 2014 at 14:15 PM

Part I:

Nobody can be denied medical treatment - UNLESS - the government changes the rules and makes it UNaffordable for them:

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/ind...

http://www.pop.org/content/infants-an...

http://savingtherepublic.com/blog/tag...

...and the list goes on and on. If the Republicans are smart, they'll add to the "carpetbomb" TV attack ads about "if you like your plan/doctor, you can keep your plan/doctor" another one which chronicles the real life stories of people like these and has as their catchphrase:

"Obama Lied And People Died."

And speaking of "death sentences," see also the points made in an article posted last Friday at godfatherpolitics.com. Here's the operative part:

sebekm commented on Monday, Jan 20, 2014 at 14:18 PM

Part II:

"The entire financial structure of the Affordable Care Act depends upon millions of young healthy adults buying into the system. Their premiums are necessary to pay for the cost of healthcare to the older and less healthy segment of the population.

However, the Obama administration is already getting uneasy at what’s been happening. The majority of policies being signed for have been for the expanded Medicaid coverage, which is the most costly for the health industry to handle. The young and healthy people have not been signing up for coverage as needed. The White House has launched a campaign targeting them and literally begging them to sign up for health coverage.

If millions of young and healthy Americans don’t sign up, Obamacare will be in dire financial trouble within a year. A number of experts believe that Congress will be expected to bail out the health insurance industry. This could be considered to be the first death sentence for Obamacare.

The second death sentence will come next January when those Americans that did sign up for healthcare through the federal or one of the state exchange programs gets their notice that their premiums are going up. Without the needed premiums of the young and healthy, insurance carriers will be forced to increase premiums more than first anticipated.

Many can barely afford the premiums they are paying now and a substantial increase will undoubtedly result in a number of policy cancellations. More cancellations results in even less income for the insurance companies, forcing them into a death spiral that may be unstoppable.

Obamacare is already dying and Republicans running in this year’s midterm elections need to be hammering these facts home in their campaigns. When you’re talking about the wallets and pocketbooks of working America, they listen. They don’t like Uncle Sam’s fingers stealing their hard earned money from them and that’s what Obamacare is doing to a number of Americans.

Perhaps Obamacare will have one shining success and that’s giving control of the Senate back to the Republicans and making Barack Obama a true lame duck president."

See: http://godfatherpolitics.com/14026/ob...

The "third death sentence" for ObamaCare will be when American workers find that their insurance premiums have been UNaffordably jacked up when the "employer mandate" fully kicks in. Obama predictably kicked this down the road until AFTER the 2014 elections, but the memory will be still stinging the voters' pocketbooks in 2016. They will remember at the ballot box, you can be sure of that.

PoliticsNation commented on Monday, Jan 20, 2014 at 15:56 PM

1.Obviously, the loss of human life cannot be compared to a failed roll-out of Obamacare.

2.You want to compare the costs of the Iraq War and Obamacare? Not sure that chart fits on one page.

3.When thinking about the rollout of Obamacare, one needs to remember that the first flight of the Wright brothers lasted for only a short time and flew a distance of about a football field. And, most held to the idea that if man was intended to fly, God would have given him wings. Well, He did. Put that in your pipe and smoke on it for a while.

sebekm commented on Monday, Jan 20, 2014 at 16:49 PM

When the loss of life is DUE TO OBAMACARE, then the comparisons are very relevant. The Iraq war is over. The ObamaCare "body count" has just begun. We were in Iraq for more than 10 years. In 2024, I hope to be around to compare body-counts between lives lost in Iraq and lives lost due to people being priced out of the insurance market and being given an ObamaCare "death sentence."

The estimated Iraq war U.S."death count" is 4800. See: http://www.statisticbrain.com/u-s-war...

For a 10 year period, this is roughly 480 per year; 1.3 people per day. My hunch is that after a 10-year period - if ObamaCare is left UNCHECKED and UNCHANGED - we will have lost a hell of a lot more people (i.e., SHORTENED LIVES) due to their inability to afford health care than 4800.

The comparison is (or will be) apropos. Especially since the "Bush Lied" propaganda was advanced by the left and is now only being pushed by the left. Note also that I said the REPUBLICANS should push "Obama Lied and People Died" as a political strategy. Why? For exactly the same reason the Democrats have been pushing "Bush Lied and People Died" for the past 10 years: THERE'S AN AUDIENCE OUT THERE FOR IT. In the case of ObamaCare and the upcoming elections, the audience will be HUGE. I think the GOP can make just an effective case for the "Obama Lied" argument as the Democrats made for the "Bush Lied" argument. Except while the Iraq dead ostensibly only personally affected 4800 American families and loved ones, ObamaCare will have screwed MILLIONS by the time the elections roll around.

Jimmy, I appreciate your response, which I deem as genuine, thoughtful and respectful. While I agree that losing lives I wars are tragedy’s, however most veterans I know realize and accept this as a part of service just like police officers and firefighters accept the risk of their service too. You seem to disregard all the measures GWB took before the war and the fact that Bill, Hillary and a host of Democrats believed in the same intelligence reports that GWB did. It’s perfectly ok to oppose a war IMHO; however how can people just lie and vilify an honest man just because you disagree with him politically. GWB is a true leader and went to IRAQ by rule of law supported by Congress and the Constitution. I still don’t understand why you feel that BHO was misinformed when it’s perfectly clear to me that he intentionally mislead Americans to get his progressive legislation passed regardless of the truth or rule of law. When a bill is passed into law by Congress it goes to the floor for a vote to be voted into law Obamacare initial passed in November 2009 in the House and December 2009 in the Senate where 60 votes were required and it did ; however Ted Kennedy died shortly thereafter and Scott Brown a Republican won Kennedy’s Senate seat which was the 41st vote against passage of the bill and what did Obama, Reid and Pelosi do they bypassed the final step in the Senate and DEEMED and passed the Senate bill in the House and then the House voted and passed it around 3/21/13 and Obama signed it into law on 3/23/13 even though most public polls opposed the bill around 55-60%. There were numerous backdoor deals a, twisting arms and lying to get this monstrosity passed. This from a man who said he would reach across party lines, negotiations would be on C-Span, no back door deals, transparency, etc, etc, etc. I have personally kept my eye on this man especially since he looks like me and had the opportunity to become one of the Greatest Presidents of All times, but he would have to do or at least attempt to do what he said he would/conservative promises but he didn’t. Last week I was out making some visits to co-workers and this particular young lady was a black single mother 24 years old with 1 child. The visit was informal I couldn’t help myself to ask “Are you a yes we can advocate” I thought I had started some trouble and was surprised that this young lady had come to the conclusion that BHO is just another slick politician and she was very upset that her insurance premiums are $290 a month for her personal coverage. She said she couldn’t afford it for her child and was happy that her baby’s daddy was able to cover the child. And what about the 5 Million plans that were cancelled because of the lies and what is the total amount of people affected by these cancellations?

Funkentelecky commented on Tuesday, Jan 21, 2014 at 05:50 AM

PN, the Obamacare roll out has played out almost exactly like the experts who actually read the monstrosity said it would..

My post by "Sage of South Central" clearly focuses on how a true leader went about leading our troops into a war and exhausting all rational means before doing so because he actually cares and didn't lie. On the other hand there is irrefutable evidence that Obama sat back, twisted arms, back door deals and lied to pass this radical agenda in the name of progressivism, with no worries about the unintended consequences.

There is no comparison with individuals in a free market society using their god given talents, resources and ingenuity to build a plane to fly with the government taking over a healthcare system that covered over 85% of America and allowed people to keep their doctor and to keep their healthcare plans and completely gutting and destroying these Americans plans because you, Obama. Plosives and Reid believe they are junk plans and you what's better for us than we do.

Actually y'all say you believe in freedom but your actions bare the truth!

mewbet commented on Tuesday, Jan 21, 2014 at 08:11 AM

Well put Funkentelecky, but it seems like no one cares if Obama lies as long as they continue to get free stuff from the rest of the people in America who pay taxes. Obama should be put on trial for fraud. He lies and he is an incompetant president. So what has happened to the other two branches of government who are suppose to use there power to keep checks and balances when this happens? They bury their heads in the sand. I am embarrassed by the performance of our own two senators who basicly have not done anything to rectify this situation and have actually contributed to the lie by not acknowledging what is evident.

gacpl commented on Tuesday, Jan 21, 2014 at 09:43 AM

the full effect of employees will be a big wake up call as a lot of businesses are slowly going to a part time work force. looking thru the help wanted adds i've seen the following. banks hiring 20 hr tellers, pizza places hiring only part time drivers. and while people think it's a bad job, it's still one of the highest paying jobs in the food industry, also they are not 16 year old like it use to be. all are over 18 with most having familys to provide for. there was a descution about papa johns being able to afford health insurance for their drivers. so to make sure they can, they dropped the starting on the road wage by $1.63 per hour. and these are the people obama care is suppose to help.

JimmyMack commented on Tuesday, Jan 21, 2014 at 13:15 PM

Relax guys. If Sebe, Funk and others on the right are correct, you folks will get back in power and then you can repeal all the stuff you do not like.

Until then, whine on.

timeontarget commented on Wednesday, Jan 22, 2014 at 06:51 AM

"but it seems like no one cares if Obama lies as long as they continue to get free stuff from the rest of the people in America who pay taxes

That pretty much sums up our current mentality.

SAD

Funkentelecky commented on Saturday, Jan 25, 2014 at 23:46 PM

GWB didn't lie and people did die; however BHO lied and IMHO more people will suffer and die from ACA, A.K.A. Obamacare than Iraq and Afghanistan within the same time period.
