Just so the men in line don't get bored! Let us sign them up for this!
Incredible. I wonder whether WE THE TAXPAYERS have spent more on pumps or on ObamaPhones. But pray tell, Sheran: once the men are "pumped up" - what are they supposed to do THEN?
I hate to bust your bubbles but the Obamawelfare phones- a myth..The program started in 2008 under BUSH...Republican Bush....Please feel free to research the information for yourself but it times for the lies to stop...
Not a myth - the phones WERE and still ARE being distributed five years into the Obama administration. The program was initiated during the last year of the Bush administration, but it was while he was doing his best imitation of a wasteful-spending, despicable DEMOCRAT. I'll let him share the blame for one year of the program, but I'll allow Mr. Obama the lion's share of the "credit" for allowing the program to continue. And after all, WE THE PEOPLE can't be wrong when the cultural and colloquial references are to "ObamaPhones." This lady knows what the real deal is:
....and this link chronicles the history of the program, and outlines the potential for abuse built into the system. As the article points out, here's why it's called the "ObamaPhone Program":
"In 2008, the FCC expanded the program to offer subsidized cell-phone service, and since then, the expenses of running the program have soared. In 2012, the program’s costs had risen to $2.189 billion, up from $822 million before wireless carriers were included. As of June (2013), there were 13.8 million active Lifeline subscriptions.
To be eligible for Lifeline, the applicant is supposed to be receiving some significant government benefit — food stamps, Medicaid, Supplemental Security Income, public housing assistance, etc. But because welfare eligibility has expanded under the Obama administration, more people than ever before are qualified to receive “free” cell-phone service — part of the reason why Lifeline mobiles have become commonly known as Obamaphones."
P.S. This picture of the President is so great I've stolen it for use in a future blog.
Sebekm the program it's not funded by the government and as you stated it started under the bush administration. The program is funded by safe link.
Actually, you can blame this one on Bush and your the phone companies..The funds for this screwing comes from charges the phone companies put on your bill. These charges were authorized by the government (bush administration in 2008). The Federal Government doesn't pay this but you and I pay for them every month via our phone bills.
@ Sebekm, the only thing that comes to mind at this time is put them on 'Public Transportation with No pants'...☺
@Sheran. Yes, I agree. Make the men sit on them cold subway seats and let the shrinkage begin. Talk about a bunch of frightened turtle visuals. Worse than diving into a cold pool.
"Sebekm the program it's not funded by the government and as you stated it started under the bush administration. The program is funded by safe link."
"So that little fee on your phone bill labeled USF? That’s what you’re paying for."
That's only part of the story. Here's more:
"The U.S. government spent about $2.2 billion on the program last year alone, reports The Wall Street Journal, which conducted a review of the program's funding.
The Lifeline phones, now referred to as “Obamaphones” by critics, are offered to low-income people, who are given an inexpensive phone with a limited number of voice and text minutes."
When "the U.S. Government spends" that equals YOU AND ME and our TAXPAYER dollars. And if I am also being forced to subsidize the program (i.e., "USF") in another way by operation of government mandate, that's essentially a tax on me. Want another example of this? OBAMACARE.
When I'm required to be "my brother's keeper," I'd like to be asked. I just might say no - for whatever reason. My brother might have "gone to the well once too often" and worn out his welcome with my charity. My brother might be an out and out BUM, who doesn't deserve to ride my gravy train any longer. When I am my brother's keeper, it's not an open-ended invitation to freeload.
That's how a lot of these "welfare" programs are viewed by the millions upon millions of people who are required to pay the freight: an open-ended entitlement to freeload. Note that it's NOT just angry white Republicans who refer to this program as the "ObamaPhone Program." They know what the deal is - it's "more free stuff" from that deep-pocketed sugar daddy known as the U.S. taxpayer.
I've spent my whole life being "my brother's keeper." In return, I'd like to see a light at the end of the tunnel, some gratitude for a change, and some HOPE AND CHANGE I CAN REALLY BELIEVE IN. I see none of these. From the sentiments expressed on the airwaves, in cyberspace, and in news print around the country, there are tens of millions of my fellow citizens who feel the same way.
I expect them to rise up this November and choose the lesser of two evils at the ballot box. Unfortunately, that's the only choice we get presented nowadays. But I don't see apathy holding sway this time. The sleeping giant has been awakened.
"@ Sebekm, the only thing that comes to mind at this time is put them on 'Public Transportation with No pants'...☺"
But only on January 12th each year, no? I guess we could call that the "ObamaPump Program." Or maybe that designation should be reserved for this:
