I hope that any of you who click on this blog will listen to the eleven minute video and read the entire article.
After doing so please state your thoughts, as that is your Constitutional right.
TOT has the same right.
I hope everyone of all persuasions has experienced a very Merry Christmas
and if it is God's will we will all have a happy new year.
God Bless America.
I found it interesting that A&E essentially reversed their position and actually ran a "Duck" marathon. I don't care for the show, but from what I've read all the guy did was quote the Bible and express his opinion. Freedom of speech applies to everybody - not just the left. And the homosexual community likes to get "graphic" in public and put their lifestyle "in the faces" of everybody else. And now they object to a graphic description of the acts themselves? Where's the "tolerance?"
Yes Tot: Free Speech is a wonderful thing. Phil can say what he likes while all the time awash in his white boy privilege religiosity certitude. He like anyone is entitled to be stupid. His comment talking about Blacks "being happy" during Jim Crow wreaks of white race privilege speak. "Yassah boss, we all bees happy pickin' all dis cotton from dawn to dusk for ya's." 'We show be glad yous lef dat whip back at da house.'
sebekm, thanks for your input. I hope this issue will cause more of the silent majority to speak out and voice disagreement with the leftest bs being force fed to our people via social media and broadcast media.
A&E has caved - and the Quacker series will continue to run without any suspensions, hiatus (other than for duck hunting), or changes in personnel.
TOT I agree with your stance, and freedom of speech. Sadly while most Americans were celebrating our government TOOK that right from us in the new NDAA. Ill make a new post as its not law yet, but after it takes effect, I can be arrested as a potential terrorist. The time is coming as I have been telling people! Sad but true!
Tot:I don't like or agree with what Phil Robertson said. But he has a RIGHT to his opinion. Just like I, you, and anyone else does. You and I disagree on much...but we are allowed to that to a point. Short of threatening assault towards another person, or say like yelling FIRE in a dark Movie Theater, pretty much everything else goes regarding commentary and speech.
The movie: Absence of Malice starring Paul Newman, however, reveals some consequences regarding what one says or does not say in print.
No jail time. But, consequences, nevertheless.
It is a good movie. For Liberals, Conservatives, and Independents.
P.S. Tot: your comment regarding 'blaming the Liberal community..." above is absurd. If that were true, Rush Limbaugh would not have a Radio Show. Shawn Hannity would not be on TV. Ann Coulter would be censored.
These are all hard core CONSERVATIVE writers and commentators. And, yes I despise them all.
Freedom of speech is supposedly for everybody. But speaking of radio commentators: apparently the hard core LIBERALS are despised just as much - if not more so - by the masses. Many will soon be "disappearing" from the New York, San Francisco, and Los Angeles (i.e., "BLUE Country") airwaves in 2014. They include Ed Schultz, Thom Hartmann, Randi Rhodes, Alan Colmes, Stephanie Miller, Randi Rhodes, Bill Press and David Cruz:
And in LA - Miller, Rhodes, and Press are being replaced by Limburger, Glenn Beck and Sean Hannity:
I don't listen to any of them, but the free market (and free speech) seems to be working in favor of the conservative cause.
Hi Sebe. Regarding those shows noted above replacing the 'Liberal' ones, I think it is because anger, criticism, and denigration SELLS! Big Time!
And millions are BUYING it, big time - they're just not buying it on the radio from the liberal media hate-mongers. I've listened to several of those who were cancelled and they are every bit as much in the vitriol business as those who are replacing them. But their message now fails to resonate with their audiences. Why not? Because the message is TOO far out there, and approaches the delusional. But there may be hope for the left. POLIICO has just announced that the Obama Administration has set a goal of stepping up a massive propaganda effort to change the subject and minimize damage from ObamaCare before next year's elections. See:
The Dems are even trying to get an ObamaCare "czar" appointed:
But obviously these efforts have little to do with talk radio - which the left has all but given up on. But I don't see that really as too much of a loss for them. They already own the "vast majority" of the mainstream media. So their radio talk shows can't compete with those on the right. It really is no big deal since before they tried to force their way in their radio presence was almost non-existent. Things are just returning to the way they were 20 years ago.
Who says there's "no going back?"
Hi Sebe. "Who says there's no going back?" Well, my friend, that ain't happened just yet, has it. Republicans have lost the last five of six national popular votes. Their stance on social issues does not resonate with women, minorities, and, obviously many of moderates and those of us on the Left.
Yall can talk the talk all you want. Today. But you cannot walk the walk until you get the golden ring on the merry go-round.
BTW: We still got Bill Mahr, Rachel Maddow, and as you have so accurately noted: access to the media. Big Time. I can live with that. Yall can keep Phil Robertson. Rich homophobic Rednecks may just be what the Right needs to promote their agenda. Good luck, buddy.
BTW: Tomorrow Colorodo LEGALIZES marijuana. Taking it away from the drug cartels. Expect Washington State to be next. Soon followed by California and New York. The rest will come aboard once they see the tax benefits. DOMA, if you have noticed, is dead or dying. Everyone is free to love anybody they wish AND marry them regardless of gender. Immigration Reform is the next national wave. Wonder what party they will be partial to?
I know this makes many on the Right sick to their stomach. But, America wants a more Tolerant society AND safety. Dem's are selling that product.
It's a new world, Charlie Brown. Good luck selling Phil Robertson on the National level.
Here's the latest on yalls Conservative Poster Boy. He the gift that keeps on giving.
Part XXIV or something: All Republicans have right now is bashing ACA or as Conservatives like to call it Obamacare.
A ONE Issue Negative Assault will fail in the elections. ACA is shaking out the gremlins and it will prevail in the end.
It is getting its feet.
I will yield the floor...for now. I am not the filibustering type.
"But, America wants a more Tolerant society AND safety." Please explain.
Safety to do what?
" ACA is shaking out the gremlins and it will prevail in the end.
It is getting its feet."
The website is the tip of the iceberg. The millions who had their premiums raised for plan features they don't want and whose doctors and hospitals will not be part of the ObamaCare network WILL NOT FORGET. They know who made them health care LOSERS - and they will punish the perps in November.
....and as for Colorado legalizing marijuana - the individual states can do what they want, can't they? Perhaps it will work out for Colorado, perhaps not. But at least the Colorado governor and the Denver mayor know what the real deal is. They are expressing the appropriate level of SHAME by refusing to show up at the "ribbon cutting ceremony":
And speaking of states doing what they want, it was announced the other day that a record number of abortion clinics closed in 2013 across the country. The number of clinics is down to 582 from the 1991 high of 2,176:
Perhaps WE THE PEOPLE are getting the message that personal responsibility is the solution to birth control - rather than after-the-fact destruction of human life.
Who says "there's no going back?"
....and as to what else the "Republicans have right now," it includes the same thing the Dems had going in 2006 - HORRIBLE POLL NUMBERS FOR THE INCUMBENT PRESIDENT WHICH RESULTED IN THE DOWNFALL OF HIS PARTY IN THE MID-TERM ELECTIONS. Even MSNBC had to recently admit it:
Speaking of MSNBC - here's a few examples of their "fair and honest" news coverage and analysis:
The "Most Trusted Name In News: isn't much better:
It's no wonder that that FNC has a larger viewership than these two networks COMBINED. It's all "freedom of speech," but these two networks are learning that the audience for THEIR kind of "free speech" is diminishing.
...and as for 2016, the Dems shouldn't put it in the "mission accomplished" column just yet. Here's an analysis of Hillary's 2013:
So it's far from being "one issue." The Republicans will hold the House because they now have the majority and their incumbents - ESPECIALLY THE TEA PARTY CREW - are doing EXACTLY what their constituencies want them to do. Even the most delusional Democratic party prognosticators are conceding that unless the sky falls, there's no way the GOP loses the House.
As to the Senate, there are a gang of 7 or so Dem senators who serve in states won by Romney in 2012 who will be hammered by videos of their support of Obama and all things liberal - not just ObamaCare. But that will still be a big part of why the Dems MAY lose the Senate. It's far from a done deal for the GOP to take over, but there is a greater chance that there will be more Republican senators after the election than the other way around.
The Dems will attempt a massive "damage control" effort from now until November, but IMHO enough damage has already been done to validate my predictions above. PLUS - I don't see much positive action coming out of the Democrats anytime soon. They will have to compromise to get anything done, and that will spread the credit.
First: Hi Tot. Let me be one of the first to say thank you for starting a Blog that has and is leading to much discussion. That is a GOOD thing.
"DOMA" is the Defense of Marriage Act.
"America wants a more Tolerant society and safety." And "Safety to do what?"
I think I have spelled out the Tolerance issues in detail before and at length, but here is the shorthand version: 1. A woman's Right to control her body, specifically her Uterus. That is between her, her Doctor, hopefully a man that is concerned about her and in her life, and her faith. 2. Freedom to acknowledge the contributions of immigrants, specifically Hispanics that are already here and provide a pathway of legal assimilation into the populace without punishment. 3. Any American can love and marry anyone that they love regardless of gender. And 4. Legalization and taxation of marijuana.
'Safety to do what?' 5. Freedom to pursue the American dream which includes among other things the pursuit of happiness via protection from Terror, which by the way, save for Boston, and the NRA's dogged determination to put assault weapons in deranged humans possession. We are doing pretty well with the Terror shield, but not too well with the NRA agenda. That has GOT TO CHANGE.
@Sebe: yada, yada, yada. Same song, different verse.
Early Happy New Year to you both. And it is now time to watch football, eat some shucked raw oysters dipped in my special sauce, drink a couple of cold brewskies, get ready for some Johnny Football, Roll One Up....
wait a minute...scratch that...not legal YET in Georgia. Must wait til maybe next year. See yall on the other side...
P.S. RE: Abortion. Food for thought. When we as a society start having funerals for miscarriages then and only then will the drive to stop Abortions become more likely to gain political traction. Think about it boys.
Early sales of MJ show demand.
"When we as a society start having funerals for miscarriages then and only then will the drive to stop Abortions become more likely to gain political traction."
We already are:
"After a late miscarriage, most hospitals offer a simple funeral and either burial or cremation. Some hospitals offer this for all babies, no matter how early the loss and whether or not there is a fully formed body."
And yes - it is the same song, different verse, because the song RINGS TRUE and the lyrics DEMAND to be repeated. So I repeat - barring some political event of biblical proportions:
*The GOP will hold the House in 2014.
*The GOP has a better chance of taking over the Senate than the Dems have of increasing their total number of Senators.
*HRC is NOT a "slam dunk" in 2016.
ObamaCare will be key to the 2014 elections, but it is not the only issue that will carry the day for the GOP. Historically, the Dems would have a problem in an "off-year" election involving an incumbent president of their own party ANYWAY. But now the 500-pound gorilla known as ObamaCare will be sitting on their chests on election day.
The other thing that goes unreported regarding ObamaCare's impact on the election is this:
The "vast majority" of the law's supporters are ALREADY constituents of the Democratic party. The LOSSES reflected in the polling are coming from independents and any "moderates" from both parties who may have supported the law based upon what the Obama administration was selling since 2009. THESE ARE THE PEOPLE WHO ARE GETTING POUNDED BY HIGHER PREMIUMS, HIGHER DEDUCTIBLES, UNWANTED FEATURES, FEWER DOCTORS, AND FEWER HOSPITALS. And these are the people who are going to vote AGAINST those who "caused their pain" in November.
It is women and the young who will be wanting to throw the bums out with a vengeance. The Dems cannot afford to lose those parts of their constituency. The only way they don't is if the Republicans screw it up somehow. They have shown an ability to do this down through the years, but this time I think they see that the only way they lose is if they shoot themselves in the foot.
Hi Sebe: I went to the site re: miscarriages and read it. Yes, by law after 24 weeks the remains must be cremated or buried by the HOSPITAL. This sounds more like a Hospital DISSPOSAL system rather than a formal funeral. It's conducted via the Hospital. No mention of churches, funeral homes, preachers, family burial plots. I doubt there is even a formal "viewing" of the fetus or the stillborn as is standard with formal funerals conducted via Funeral Homes. The remains of a miscarriage MUST be dealt with but not in a true funereal sense. I saw no mention of embalming, discharge of the body to a funeral home, no mention of Family Church or Graveside services, just the Hospital offering the family a dignified means of disposal. Not a funeral in the true sense of the word.
Nice try, tho.
They call them "funerals" nonetheless. In particular (as you might expect), the Catholic Church encourages funerals for miscarriages. See:
See also a huffingtonpost.com article from 2011 which quotes an assistant professor of psychiatry at the University of Rochester Medical Center in a case involving a "celebrity" miscarriage:
"Though Duggar was six months along, the move on her part to name the child and hold a funeral service is both common and even beneficial, according to Robertson Blackmore."
Both COMMON AND BENEFICIAL. Further, although I haven't known many women who have miscarried (only two), in each instance both had services at a funeral home.
Hi Sebe. I am sure that there are INSTANCES of it (funerals) occurring. My point was that SOCIETY, as a whole, does not see it that way. And, for the most part, funerals for miscarriages are not a COMMON occurrence.
