"Nearly 40 percent of all workers in the country made less than $20,000 last year, according to data from the Social Security Administration".

"The top 10 percent of the country’s earners took home half of the income in 2012, the largest amount on record."

Conservative policies killing the middle class with the largest transfer of wealth to the least amount of people in history!

Nearly 40 percent of all workers in the country made less than $20,000 last year, according to data from the Social Security Administration, which doesn’t include figures on benefits such as health insurance or pensions. That’s below the federal poverty threshold for a family of four and close to the line for a family of three. On average, these workers earned just $17,459.55.

Meanwhile, more than half of all workers made less than $30,000, not much more to live off of. Wider Opportunities for Women has estimated that a two-income family with two children needs to bring in nearly $72,000 a year to simply reach economic security. Two earners at this level won’t achieve that status.

As David Cay Johnston notes, the median wage was $27,519 in 2012, at the lowest level since 1998. That means half of all workers made more and half made less. But the average wage actually grew. “When the average wage grows but the median wage stagnates, it means that, statistically, only workers in the top half of the job market are experiencing increases,” he writes.

His analysis shows that most of the wage growth was for the top quarter of earners, or those who make about $50,000 and up. In fact, things are very good at the top. The number of workers making $5 million a year or more jumped by nearly 27 percent over 2011, and their total wages grew 40 percent, or 13 times the increase for all workers.

This income inequality has been growing since the 1970s, as the richest 20 percent of Americans saw their income grow much faster than the bottom 20 percent. But things have accelerated in the economic downturn. For the past three years, those at the top of the income ladder saw their incomes grow by 5 percent while everyone else’s income dropped. The top 10 percent of the country’s earners took home half of the income in 2012, the largest amount on record.

And things at the bottom have been declining. The bottom 60 percent of earners have experienced a “lost decade” of wage growth, seeing their compensation fall or stagnate. Many forces have contributed to this trend, but the growth of low-wage jobs that replace middle class work during the recovery has helped it along.

You're poor and don't even know it if you are the working middle class and you are burdened with supporting the ever increasing numbers of those who refuse to work but have no shame regarding living on welfare.

Call me a devil worshiper when you know it is a lie.

Tell a lie and repeat it often enough and even you will start to accept that to be true.

JimmyMack you singlehandedly are causing this blog site to dwindle.

TOT- you have to change your talking point because their are no lazy people on welfare. In fact it's called TANF-Temporary Assistance for Needy Families and you have to work to receive it. If I'm not mistaken there is only a handful of people in the state of Georgia that receive it. On the other hand the GOP is receiving the biggest welfare payments ever. Your poor-dirt poor compared to the top earners. They don't give a hoot about you or me. Your doing what they need you to do-spread misinformation and remain angry and poor.

PN You need to do some research on welfare. Find out how much a family of four pulls in every year in the form of Food stamps, Money, Subsidized housing, and a free cell phone. You might want to look into what happens when they use up that temporary time. Also check out the number of people receiving some type of government assistance in Georgia. I think you will find out it is way more than a hand-full.

2012 was the 4th full year of Obamanomics, which included more taxes, more regulations, more backdoor deals, less compromise, more debt, lower US credit rating, more crony capititalism by the anti-capitalist in Chief himself, less leadership, and more scandals in recent history! More people have been forced to do part time work because of the anti-capitalist Party in charge.

The top 10 percent is a family or an individual making at least $120,000 a year before taxes. You should be happy that my family is in that category, but we aren’t rich. After paying over $14,000 in federal taxes, $6000 in child care, $3000 in property taxes and all the other sales and miscellaneous taxes, the imperial Obama IRS put a gun to our heads and said “You need to pay $1350 more” in federal taxes, What say You?

Progressive policies killing the middle class because a significant amount of liberals depend upon the federal government, and conservatives/libertarians like me depend on ourselves by adjusting or moderating what we do to overcome the progressive transgressions that hinder growth.

TOT- you have to change your talking point because their are no lazy people on welfare.

PN, you discredit yourself with this initial sentence. No means 0 a perfect number and that’s not true. I personally know a few lazy people on TANF.

Those who live in glass house, should not throw stones.

I personally know several people who have lied to social workers in order to receive benefits.

I also know a number of veterans who have faked illness in order to get disability status.

One very prominent local who proudly proclaims to be a disabled due to combat.

Several close friends from school days draw social security disability payments and they actually are in good physical health.

They swallowed their pride and became just another slacker on the dole enjoying welfare at the expense of working middle class America.
