We Deserve To Be Told The Truth

Here’s what he said – in various forms – in a three year period - over and over and over again. Here’s one direct quote :

“No matter how we reform health care, we will keep this promise: If you like your doctor, you will be able to keep your doctor. Period. If you like your health care plan, you will be able to keep your health care plan. Period. No one will take it away."

At the very least, here’s what he SHOULD HAVE said (if he had told the TRUTH):

*”Some people may lose their doctor(s) of choice. This is a probable result of this legislation. We (the government) won’t be directly doing this, but some doctors may decline participation in the program and some insurance companies may limit choices.”

*”Some people may lose their current health plan – as now written – because it doesn’t comply with the provisions of the Affordable Care Act. We think the law will help many people, but it may adversely affect some through rate increases. In some cases, people will pay A LOT more for their health care coverage. Some people may experience significant changes to their health care plans. But we believe that most people who are now unable to obtain health insurance will be helped by the Affordable Care Act.”

*”Taxes of middle class Americans will probably rise in order to pay for this new health care legislation, but that’s how government benefits are funded. The money that pays for the “subsidies” received by Affordable Care Act enrollees – by and large – will come from increased taxes on the 85% of the country who already have health care they believe to be “affordable.””

*”Finally, look at how similar health care system changes were implemented on a smaller scale in Massachusetts. Initially, the computers didn’t always work, and it took months for everything to run smoothly. Since we are implementing a massive overhaul of health care administration – which is necessary to implement this new law - we’re not guaranteeing that everything will go flawlessly during the initial stages. But we’ll do the best we can.”

Now THAT would have been telling the truth. And we now know that three years ago, the Democrats (and the President) should have known what the truth was. In fact, many Democrats have gone on the record over the past week and ADMITTED they knew the truth back then.

The mainstream media is now FINALLY reporting the truth. Here are a few links from the recent news:

In this one, the Washington Post gives the President four (4) Pinocchios for not telling the truth in this matter. (Four Pinocchios is their WORST rating for political lies.)

The moral of this story? Politicians – in this case the Democrats – will do and say anything to get elected and/or hold power. The President and the Democrats damn well knew that if they told the truth about the “Affordable Care Act” over the past three years, the law would never had gotten enacted, and President Obama PROBABLY wouldn’t have gotten reelected. So they misled. They deceived. They lied.

We ought to be able to expect our government to tell us the truth – AT ALL TIMES. Not just when it is convenient for them; not just when it helps their “causes”: not just when it helps them score political points against their opponents.

The Democrats and especially President Obama have let the country down.

.....and let me be clear that I am not giving the Republicans a pass for any lies or transgressions they may have committed in the past. But this is 2013. The topic is health care. This administration rammed through the legislation and lied about what would happen when they did. It was the classic "bait and switch." What Republicans did back when has NOTHING to do with what the Democrats have done and are doing RIGHT NOW.

JimmyMack commented on Wednesday, Oct 30, 2013 at 16:38 PM

The only thing about then and now, to me Sebe, is that no one is dying right now due to these computer glitches and ACA interpretation and some Dr.'s reaction to it. Republican's lied about WMD,s and thousands of people DIED and CONTINUE to die. The Republican, Boy King W., knew for an entire week Katrina was coming and by his inactions leading up to and after the storm costs a thousand plus lives and the displacement of a millions. Remember W.'s MISSION ACCOMPLISHED Lie? People are still dying because of his Republican 'leadership.'

Right now, even with the on-going confusion surrounding the ACA, ALL people still have access to their Hospital Emergency Rooms, if necessary, with or without insurance.

Is that an inconvenience? Yes. But the possible body count arising from this ACA event will not come close to approaching the loss of life that Republicans imposed on Americans during their 'bait and 'switch' WMD search, nor their classic boondoggle of Katrina.

ACA...bad legislation? Maybe, maybe NOT. Time will tell. But it comes without body bags. If this is a boondoggle, I will take one like this rather than the Republican screw ups, like the ones noted above, any day.

We MUST keep all that is happening with ACA now in its proper perspective. I believe, many on the right here, were concerned about Benghazi, where people did die! What happened to that one? That event may have contained more reason for legitimate scrutiny than the lynch mob feeding frenzy taking place right now over a Health Care plan!

There are non so blind as those who will not see.

Jimmy: To compare today's lies to justify yesterday's lies won't work. The problem we are focusing on now is OBAMACARE - not WMDs or anything prior by anybody. When we start saying "okay - the current president can lie because previous presidents (may have) lied," we throw away any semblance of sanity. So:

Don't justify Obama's lies by saying Bush lied. When you do that, you brand yourself as a total Obama apologist - and not a clear thinker who is concerned about the problem at hand.

But I can't really blame you - changing the subject or trying to make false comparisons has always been a tactic of choice for those who can't defend the issue at hand and the actions "their side" has taken (or not taken) to confront them.

But this tactic is so over-used that it is completely transparent now - and the result is that all the non-argument does is "fill space."

As for Benghazi, the issue is not dead and recent news reveals further Obama administration LIES. A story posted earlier today says the new information "undercuts the Obama administration’s original story about the Benghazi tragedy." The administration's "story" and time-line for the event has flip-flopped so often since the original was thrown against the wall that the story should be nominated for a spot in "Ripley's Believe It Or Not." For the details, see:

TOT - you are correct. They are blind, and it is self-inflicted.

Not really trying to change the subject, Sebe. Body bags vs. No Body Bags. Just reportin' the truth. Simple stuff, really.

Y'all continue with the feeding frenzy. I enjoy viewing Conservatives in a complete state of flux.

sebekm commented on Thursday, Oct 31, 2013 at 15:03 PM

Jimmy: You can continue to try to change the subject, but there aren't any "body bags" associated with ObamaCare (at least - not YET). The issue is THIS PRESIDENT AND HIS LIES.

Can't blame Bush for what Mr. Obama said - over and over and over again - unless you want to claim that Obama was "channeling his inner Bush." Mr. Obama owns this scandal, and it's what the entire country is talking about (and what a lot of this country is upset about).

JimmyMack commented on Thursday, Oct 31, 2013 at 15:52 PM

So, do you think it all rises to the level of an IMPEACHABLE offense?

sebekm commented on Friday, Nov 01, 2013 at 13:06 PM

Of course not. But it does rise to the level of "don't let them get away with it." This is not just the President. He has the vision but his minions execute that vision. His party lock-stepped his vision, and now they're all in the same boat (aptly described as "The Titanic" by journalists - friends and foes).
