House Democratic Whip Steny Hoyer conceded to reporters today that Democrats knew people would not be able to keep their current health care plans under Obamacare and expressed qualified contrition for President Obama’s repeated vows to the contrary.
“We knew that there would be some policies that would not qualify and therefore people would be required to get more extensive coverage,” Hoyer said in response to a question from National Review.
Asked by another reporter how repeated statements by Obama to the contrary weren’t “misleading,” Hoyer said “I don’t think the message was wrong. I think the message was accurate. It was not precise enough…[it] should have been caveated with – ‘assuming you have a policy that in fact does do what the bill is designed to do.’”
Hoyer noted that people losing access to their current plans are mostly in the individual market, which is a small segment of the overall market. He also argued that requiring those plans to follow new mandates and regulations was important for ensuring those plans included “adequate coverage so the public would not have to be on the hook for serious illnesses or other illnesses.”
even though the DEMs are starting to admit they knew they were telling lies about this. the Obamabots will still try to make excuse and/or change the subject rather then admit their savior lied from the get go.
CBS just reported it's now 2 million that have lost there insurance and they expect the number to keep climbing.
If you had a plan that was dropped and not grandfathered in it's because your insurance company changed their plan after the health law was signed. Many insurance companies did so to take in as much as they could before the law fully went into effect. They either changed premium, networks, or deductible, etc. and it no longer could be grandfathered in. This is the fault of the insurance company, not the health law. They had a chance to keep plans as is or even offer it to new people, but they saw profit as more important.
For the record-The president disclosed this information in 2010...
President Obama said four things.
1) You can keep your plan
2) You can keep your doctor
3) Your premiums will go down on average 2,500
4) The Government can run it efficiently.
---People are losing their health Insurance. 14 million people...5% is more than 0%.
---Doctors go with that. people are losing their doctors
---Premiums are going up.
---The system is crashing. People can't even sign up.
The IRS said in 2010 that over 10 million would lose their plan. They were right. Conservatives said it and warned all of us when Pres. Obama said it.
This is not a surprise and should not be a surprise to anyone.
Of course the left will simply blame the Insurance companies. They will forget that ACA caused all of it and caused this reaction from private Insurance. Amazingly it will be someone else's fault for the system they created.
I was suspect in 2010 when no Republican voted for this legislation. All major legislation in this country such as social security etc was passed in landslides. This one was not. It was red flag.
This blog is not "misleading." The facts bear out that President Obama lied to the American people when he said "If you want your plan, you can keep you plan," "If you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor." I HAVE PERSONAL FAMILY EXPERIENCE WHICH BACKS UP WHAT IS FLOODING THE MEDIA ON THESE LIES. My daughter can not "keep her plan." Her choice of doctors is significantly limited by Obamacare. She has to pay higher premiums because of ObamaCare.
gacpl has succinctly stated the facts. The only people who are now being misled are those who are still buying the Dem pablum; drinking their Kool-Aid; and selling their lies.
I'm looking forward to seeing Kathleen Sebelius on the griddle today. She is only a functionary and is now simply "following orders" of her superiors, but as a cabinet secretary she should have anticipated the problems and at least facilitated the smooth implementation of the web site.
ObamaCare is a train wreck. Dem Senator Max Baucus predicted this - and nobody in his party listened. The GOP and the Tea Party fought against it and the public is now seeing that they were correct. That's why Mr. Obama's job approval numbers are in the 40s and he's even with the Tea Party with registered voters.
...but at least she is taking SOME responsibility for the roll-out:
But what I - and tens of millions of other Americans are waiting for - is an apology from the President for ObamaCare. (Obviously I won't hold my breath waiting for it.)
As I mentioned in my other blog post:
"In the dumper. But WE THE PEOPLE can't (and won't) fire everybody. As I said in one of my earlier posts - most who want to "throw the bums out" are really saying "throw the other guy's bum out." But as we all know:
*The issue which is in focus now is ObamaCare.
*The issue which now is making a lot of people mad is ObamaCare.
*The Democrats are the party which OWNS ObamaCare.
*The Republicans/Tea Party are the ones who have been fighting AGAINST ObamaCare since its proposal back when.
*As evidenced by the poll numbers I reported (in a prior blog): “OVERWHELMING MAJORITES OF MAINSTREAM VOTERS IDENTIFY MORE WITH THE AVERAGE TEA PARTY MEMBER THAN WITH EITHER THE PRESIDENT OR THE AVERAGE MEMBER OF CONGRESS.”
The difference will come at election time from independents and so-called "swing voters." These are the people who aren't drinking anybody's Kool-Aid, and were persuaded to vote for Obama due to his charisma and his promise of change. What they have found out is that not only didn't we get "change," the status quo got WORSE with more corruption and cronyism, PLUS the country is now more racially divided than it has ever been. These are the people who are going to rise up and strike down those who they perceive are more at fault with the problems that are hitting them squarely in their pocketbooks and their household budgets. Remember, the President and many incumbents only won the popular vote by a few percentage points. I predict that enough independents/swing voters will be mad enough to keep the Republicans in control of the House, and perhaps even put them in control of the Senate.
That would REALLY make Mr. Obama's last two "lame duck" years the pits."
