Wow gacpl! One powerful video. Ms. Duckworth didn't mince any words. If everything she said about that particular veteran is true, then it appears that "freeloaders" are rampant in the military. And not just on AFDC and Foodstamps.
Thanks for sharing gacpl. I hope he as to repay money plus prison time... What a sorry piece of Sh!*.
Good stuff, and it is sad that abuses like what he, apparently, did slip threw the system. It is an outrage. My father served in Viet Nam twice, was hit in the leg with shrapnel from a grenade, and still continued to serve. He then was shot in the left hand, loosing all fingers except for his thumb and pinkie in his left hand. And now retirees like him, have to pay a co-pay for their medical coverage...an outrage to hear a case like this. Also in the video is the comment of the current Vets waiting for disability claims from Post Traumatic Stress. Though the senator was using the statement as support for her views, this number is also an outrage. I know there are a lot of PTS cases that are valid, but in my opinion, many cases are simply people trying to con the system and get a VA check. There needs to be tighter guidelines on all of the medical benefits for Vets, and focus more on the retired soldiers. And I say that as a Vet who served one tour as Infantryman in the Army.
gotta tell ya your comment:
freeloaders" are rampant in the military
is a direct insult to anyone who has served and subsequently have service connected disabilities. Although I am sure there are some the "play" the system I would ask that you do not generalize those that have earned access to care because of serving their country
I'm not HMJC. I am just saying attempts at falsly getting any kind of benefits cuts across, race, religion, occupation, any and all socio-economic groups etc.
I have had my Sunday School lesson on this already here on these pages. Courtesy MLC.
It appeared Ms. Duckworth caught a malingerer and held him to the fire on the video. He was seeking a service connected disability while Ms. Duckworth was trying to point out that it was because of folks like him that are stalling much needed and legitimate benefits due to 'real' service connected disabilities. So, I am just saying that there are surely more than one of them doing that. The majority of our Armed Forces are good patriotic defenders of our freedom.
One bad apple don't spoil the whole bunch.
Fair enough, it is important to weed out such instances as it takes away from those that really do need it but are waiting because of the backlog at the VA
