Republican leaders hit back!

Getting in President Obama's way has been the top priority for Republicans in Congress since day one. But now they've gone too far.

They've been caught red-handed making up so-called 'scandals' out of thin air to stir up false rumors of vast 'cover-ups' happening in the White House. Did they find a single shred of evidence to back up their outrageous claims? No.

But rather than let the truth stand in their way, Republicans actually doctored emails between administration officials about Benghazi. Then, they released them to the press, trying to pass them off as real in order to create their scandal. Fortunately, they got caught in the act when the White House released all of the actual emails. (Brad Woodhouse)

While the RNC and Republicans at every level are paying lip service to repairing their damaged brand, distinguished Republican Party leaders are calling BS on an effort that is all form and no substance — lashing out against the Tea Partiers like Ted Cruz, Rand Paul and Ken Cuccinelli who have become the standard bearers for the GOP. Unfortunately, the only Republicans with the courage to stand up against the Tea Party and their anti-gay, anti-women and anti-middle class agenda are retired from public office.

Here’s what some of those distinguished Republicans have said about their own party in the last few weeks:

Former Virginia Senator John Warner: “The strength of America’s political system rests in the strength of having two viable, strong parties in stiff competition. Today each person has to make up their own mind. I’m concerned about the relative competitive strength of the two parties.” -Richmond Times Dispatch, 5/26/13

Former Senate Majority Leader Bob Dole: “I think they ought to put a sign on the national committee doors that says ‘closed for repairs’ until New Year’s Day next year and spend that time going over ideas and positive agendas.” -Fox News, 5/26/13

Former Senator Olympia Snowe: “I certainly do agree with the former majority leader, Bob Dole, with whom I worked when I first entered the Senate and who was a consensus builder and understood what was essential and important for the Republican Party brand – what was important for America and that unfortunately has been lost today on Capitol Hill.”

“The Republican party is undergoing some, you know, significant and serious changes and they are going to have to rethink their approach as a political party and how they are going to regroup and become a governing majority party that appeals to a broader group of Americans than they do today. You have a whole new group of lawmakers that know no other environment than the current one of dysfunction and disharmony,” said Snowe. “And that’s troubling.” -MSNBC, 5/28/13

The RNC may have filed their post-mortem report on their failings from the 2012 election months ago, but it’s clear that the GOP has a lot more soul searching to do before they’re able to return from the wilderness. And for good reason —Republicans are out of touch with middle-class Americans on every important issue we face, from tax fairness to making college more affordable, to common-sense reforms to reduce gun violence. The GOP’s distinguished former leaders. Kind of says it all

I wouldn't say all the scandals are rumors and made up, uhem IRS.

PoliticsNation commented on Thursday, Jun 27, 2013 at 09:37 AM

Uhem...the Obama Administration had nothing to do with the IRS scandal..

Please read the article below..

Never said Obama did. But as The Commander and Chief, he does bear some responsibility as does anyone in the business world when their employees mess up. One side tries to paint him as the devil and the other as an angel. The truth is somewhere in between.

I think we have all fell in the good and bad category at some point in life. The difference between the POTUS and us..our issues or what others may precieve as issues aren't on display. He is not the Governor of a state, the senator of a district or etc; he's the POTUS. It's no way he could please everyone.

PN,

When you are in charge you are responsible for your teans actions. Enough "he didnt know"

JimmyMack commented on Thursday, Jun 27, 2013 at 12:25 PM

Great post PN. I think it portends the forthcoming splintering of the Republican Party. True Fiscal Conservatives and Centrist-Moderates, hopefully break free from the shackles thrust upon them by the lunatic Tea Partiers. Let the Tea Partiers stand by themselves.

It seems funny that when Bush was president he was held to the fact that he was in charge and therefore responsible for his staff. Funny how the duck suit obama continues to wear always seems to get him a get out of jail free card. Its a double standard and all invloved know this like it or not. At this rate what is obama responsible for? Apparently not obamacare because it is failing miserably, not the IRS because he didnt know... fast and the furious, not him again. so just what is this cat responsible for. DOMA, Immigration, cant think of much else of substance he has brought to the table.

@Hmjc-would you like some cheese with that whine?...

Funkentelecky commented on Friday, Jun 28, 2013 at 21:09 PM

PN, the only thing distinguished about about the Republicans that are posted here is that they are "RINO's" Republican in name only which is a far cry from the Republican Party that was created in 1854, which is responsible for my freedom, and even more positive events in our history that I won't list at this time. RINO's agree with Progressives like Obama, to keep decent people in slavery through BIG Government "Leviathan"

PN, HMJC is a true leader like Chief MVB and me. We were in charge of a large group of people that we were responsible for. Yes, it's true you can't please everyone; however the bottom line comes down to did you make your decisions by policy and if you did you treated everyone fairly by doing so. HMJC don't want no cheese and isn't a whiner like Barack Hussein Obama!

Thanks for sharing. My comment was a little insensitive but no disrespect intended.

The Obama administration is in power and they "own" the problems and the errors that are being made. The questions are:

*Did they cause them?

*How are they going to fix them?

*Are they covering them up?

Those of us who remember Watergater remember that it started as a "third rate burglary" that was characterized as an isolated incident and two years later all kinds of crap had come to light. The vast majority of the problems uncovered could be characterized as political abuses of power by the Nixon administration.

If the Democrats and the press hadn't kept digging, no doubt Nixon would have completed his second term and we'd be debating how "great" a president he was. If the Republicans don't keep digging here, we won't be able to fully and truly answer the above questions and to determine HOW MUCH abuse of power is going on - because IMHO there is ABSOLUTELY NO DOUBT THAT from the "scandals" I've read about, there HAVE been abuses of power. Some have been by career "public servants" and others have been by elected officials. Just read the reports. Nobody is blameless but the adminstration in power - i.e., Mr. Obama - IS HOLDING THE BAG. It is their responsibility to air things out and come clean with the American people - no matter where the abuses occurred.

I see this administation doing what all the others have done (and probably will do in the future):

Duck, dodge, hide, deny, deny, deny, obfuscate, stonewall, "I don't recall," shift the blame/point fingers at the opposition, etc., etc., everything EXCEPT:

Take full responsiblity, come clean with the American people, get after the problems and FIX THEM.

....Watergate without the extra "r"...

Excellent finally Chief to an informative blog. Chief, Murrelet is gone and we don't have to worry about getting ridiculed on typo's anymore. We all do it from time to time. "Human beings"

JimmyMack commented on Monday, Jul 01, 2013 at 07:37 AM

HOOOO-UH!!! typos are becoming my trademark in many cases.

HMJC commented on Tuesday, Jul 02, 2013 at 10:33 AM

PN, no cheese thank you. I would like to know why every "scandal" is deemed a non issue, why every foregien policy mess he creates is a no issue. I can take the jibbing but My constant requests to denote what great things he has done for ALL Americans during his tenure. To date the only legacy he has is being the first almost black president. His constant failure to accept responsibilty for his administration. Christ, even Hillary owned up t bengahzi. This administration continues to be in damage control mode; this detracts from addressing real issues. The guy is a bum but history wont reflect that. If ya think I am whining so be it, I speak what i feel and believe. I can live with that
