Take Me To Post Comment Form

I copied this from sound off.

"Congressman Jack Kingston needs to give an editorial page reply for some of the people here in Midway. Going to the barbecue, we were quite concerned with his reply on the gun laws. It seems that he will go with what the people want — not what we want, what the majority I should say wants. We don’t want somebody that’s going to go with the majority, we want someone to go with what we want. We want to know where he stands on guns. "

I thought our elected officials are suppose to go with the MAJORITY of what the people want. I guess this caller, if there isn't a typo somewhere in the comment, is among the people who live in the "United States of the Offended". Mean " I don't like something so it should be changed for me. I don't care what everyone else wants."

I have no idea where this caller stands on gun laws, but the call in comment is just plain wrong.

Well golfnut31316 one thing ya need to know about Soundoff is that it exists for the idiots amongst us to vent mostly unintelligible complaints. They use their anonymity to make whatever claim they wish.

But, what I find to be kinda silly, is that you are coming here to these pages to complain in anonymity just like the Soundoff fools.

Golfy: I agree. This country was founded on the principle of "majority rule." If people don't want majority rule, then they would probably be happier (har har) in a country with autocratic rule. One problem: autocrats usually rule with primarily their own interests in mind. So unless you are the autocrat, you're usually not too happy with the rule.

Kingston has done a great job representing the interests of this district - if you measure job performance by "bringing home the bacon." We are going to miss him in the House - just as IMHO we are going to miss Saxby in the Senate.

I read that and promptly put the whole comment into the mental circular file.

Seb, generally we do go by majority rules but at the same time the minority should have some protection against the majority. I think in most cases, we do a good job maintaining that balance.

I believe our system does provide the minority various protections against the majority. But in those cases where the minority/special interests trump the majority, we have to wonder what is really in the best interests of the country. But it can't always just be a matter of percentages, and therein lies the controversy.....

(It seems that he will go with what the people want — not what we want).

I thought we were the people. I believe the people that call into the Sound off are uneducated morons, of course some may have a GED.

Well stated, Mountain.

Here is something I read in the Courier. "Why don't Hinesville's "leaders" save the citizens money and have their workshop in their multimillion-dollar taj mahal city hall in their state-of-the-art council chamber? Looks like another year without a raise for the city employees - thanks, Billy and Mr. Thomas - ...

Got this the other day. Gates Suggests Pay Cuts Week of May 30, 2011 U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates, has long avoided using reductions in military pay and active duty benefits to reduce costs. However pressure from the White House to make $400B in cuts may have forced Gates' hand. ...
