Courier reporter, Danielle Hipps, wrote what appeared to be a well-researched story regarding the Liberty County Board of Education members that appeared in the Courier, May 31, 2013. Now I ain't a knockin Ms. Hipps on this story. It outlined in detail to the penny just how much our BOE members had spent in travel dollars. My question is: Who is next in this travel expense accounting reportage?

I think if you are going to hold one of the tax-funded entities to the fire, whose 'salaries' are only five to seven hundred dollars a month, then all the other Boards and Authorities that receive tax dollars undergo the same process. What is good for the goose is good for the gander on this one.

I think it could possibly reveal an astonishing amount of tax dollars being spent. And not only that, by reporting these amounts it would be the fair thing to do. It usually takes more eggs than one to make an omelet. I encourage the Courier to finish making it.

"Now, we want the rest of the story" a good and fair request.

Thank you Thinker. That's what I think also.

Think IRS. ;)

But seriously, athere is a lot a waste that could be trimmed from certain budgets.

Yes up2....I think that there just is more to the story and that the Courier should level the playing field by not just cherry picking one Board or Authority to put under the microscope but rather but them all under it.

A year and a half ago, John Spradley posted links to the LCDA AMEX statemeents. There appeared to me to be a lot of waste exposed there - i.e., far overpaying for lodging; possible "shack-up" rendezvous; high-cost meals/beverages, etc. See:

http://community.coastalcourier.com/b...

But I agree with Jimmy and up2. In light of the recent revelations of extreme waste, fraud, and abuse at the national level, it is incumbent upon the TAXPAYERS to demand accountability and transparency. We have no idea what these people are doing with our money.

The Courier should dig, dig, dig....

...and here's what happens when the PEOPLE - and the press - don't follow up on abuses. We've had this IRS "scandal" ongoing for awhile now and the President has pledged to "get to the bottom of it" and the head of the FBI has testified before Congress (which was more of Baghdad Bob than anything else), and now we find out that - as of two days ago - NOT A SINGLE TEA PARTY GROUP HAS YET BEEN CONTACTED in the ongoing "investigation" by the FBI:

http://dailycaller.com/2013/06/13/fbi...

"Investigation?" It looks more like "white-washing" - probably orchestrated by the folks in the White House. So yes - there is a hell of a lot more to the horrific abuses ongoing at all levels of government in this country.

WE THE PEOPLE just have to keep howling until we get some answers.

Not sure but I think I remember Ms Hipps pointing out that the amount of money spent on travel ranked second highest in the entire state.

Whatever difference that might have made.

It would be nice to see more stories about the cost of all of the departments which spend public money.

Zig keeps Zagging

Zig Zag Zell is staying true to form. Yes, this is the man who gave the keynote speech for the Democratic Party Convention that nominated Bill Clinton, and also gave the keynote speech for George W. Bush at the Republican convention. However, on Sebe's behalf, I gratefully accept Zell's endorsement ...

America on Upswing

The Coming Republican Nightmare
July 26, 2014
No. The Nightmare is not the Tea Partiers hi-jacking the Republican Party and embracing aspects of National Socialism. Though, that truly would be nightmarish. It just ain't likely to happen. What is getting closer to becoming reality and a detriment to Republicans but a boon to the American public is ...
