Probaly a little dramatic for a title but for those familar with Scouting, Lord Badon Powell would never approve of the current state of affairs. As we all know by now the BSA has folded like a cheap suit and has decided to allow youth gay membership. Currently gay adults are still not allowed to serve; this will change soon as well. So, is the outrage a matter of intolorance, bigotry, or misguided religous beliefs? Some would say yes. Some would say that times have changed and as a people we need to change as well. Some would say that this will be a distraction in the beginning but will disipate in time...Some would say that this is about inclusion and equality. That would be some... I am a Scouter, can't really say what I am going to do from here. The BSA was one of the last orginizations that had the chutzpa to say that certain lifestyles were not consistent with our values. Now, has there been gay Scouts? yes, no doubt in my mind however, sexual orientation has never been a merit badge or skill that was taught in Scouting. The only thing close to that was the discussion of what was considered inappropriate touching or sitations to educate and protect the boys. Bringing sexual orientation to the forefront will be a distraction that will significantly take away from the program. Any way you slice it, this is a fact. We are going to lose many charter orginizations that are churches or religious entities. We are going to lose a lot of great leaders. I can already see the rhetoric of if they are such great leaders, why are they leaving? They will leave becuase they will not be part of an orginization that ironically is not consistent with their values. The BSA will weather the storm but will never be the same. God, Country, and Self has been the foundation of Scouting for over 100 years. To compromise this based on something that was never a fundamental of Scouting to begin with is a travasty. I am glad my Son has Eagled out, I am going to have to do some soul searching over the next couple of months to decide if I can continue. At this point I just don't know.

It is the end of an era in which America was the flagship for all that is right in this world.

We now move forward amist a new set of lowered discipline and values.

The moral rot of America continues.

The liberals are leading the way.

HMJC I fear that you are correct, regrettably I also fear that JimmyMack is correct too; and for that I am sad. And though I am saddened by the BSA's decision, I'm not surprised. I am an Eagle Scout and I have always been proud of that, but somehow now it seems like future Eagle Scouts won't be able to have quite as much pride, with the foundation of God being incrementally taken out of the organization. The Girl Scouts are only a shell of what they once were as a result of their "progressive" changes, and I fear the Boy Scouts will follow this same path. Fortunately their is a new Scouting organization being developed called On My Honor, which is holding true to the Scout Oath and Law, and is maintaining the ideals of Scouting being based on God and Country. Check it out at OnMyHonor.Net . For those who join On My Honor, it won't be them leaving Scouting, they will be joining because the Boy Scouts of America left Scouting.

I had another ephiphiny about this this weekend; the scouting application does not ask for sexual orientation because that has never been part of the teachings of the program. What I am saying is that none of my meetings ever covered that you had to be a heterosexual and this is why and could not be a homosexual and this is why. I say again, bring this to the forefront is a serious distraction that takes away from the corp teachimgs of the program. At the end of the day for what? Is this for the greater benifit? Yes I know this seems harsh but it is a question that needs asked. Is making homosexuality a an open up front topic in scouting for the best benifit for the program for all? I think you know the answer...

That is my point, it seems that not only do we have to accept homosexuality; we have to allow it it be inserted to basically all facets of our lives in the interest of "equality". Maybe I am missing something but everytime someone voices opposition to this "lifestyle", we are wrong, bigotted, and hopelesly stuck in the stone ages. Last time I checked this was a free country, I have stated numerous times, if you are gay, fine be gay! But do not expect me to attend the parade, give you a high five, or remotely pretend I suscribe to that way of life. I don't have to! I don't have to raise my children that way, and I darn sure do not have to suscribe to the fact that your sexual oreintation should be allowed to be part of every orginized entitiy. Live your life defined as a person, not who you sleep with!

The world may change, organizations may change and the Boy Scouts may change but that does not mean I have to change my beliefs, standards, morals just to please a small group of people.

"I suppose if I were them I'd feel the same way, but then I wouldn't be looking out for society as a whole, I'd be looking out for only myself."

That says what is wrong about most of the liberal agenda and it says it very well.

I totally agree

Heard through the grapevine yesterday that the Methodist church in Hinesville will cease to sponsor BSA troup 500 after this year.

The outgoing Commander and Chump were in rare form last night.
