That’s what they said in a story reported this morning in USATODAY. But even in this instance the tiger couldn’t change its stripes. The IRS’ claim was that they were incompetent in the way they handled “releasing” the information to the public that they had possibly violated criminal statutes by “inappropriately targeting” Tea Party (and other) conservative political groups. IMHO – they also tried to be too slick and too sneaky in breaking the news. Instead of just holding a press conference to tell the world they screwed up and face the music directly, they decided to plant a question with an attendee at a routine committee meeting – knowing that their response would get wide press coverage. The IRS also claims that they planned to notify Congress “simultaneously” with the press release of their “confession” at the committee meeting - but somehow “that never happened” (I guess that’s the “incompetent” part).

WHAT WEASELS!!! And these are the people who we trust to run our tax system. Are these actions HONEST? Are they HONORABLE? It’s no wonder that this “scandal” has gained the traction it has with the public. Even that Republican-hater Jon Stewart agrees and - in his own inimitable way – places the blame squarely where it belongs:

According to a new Gallup Poll, 74% of Americans believe that the IRS scandal needs to be investigated further. [Almost as many (69%) believe that the administration’s actions in the Benghazi incident deserve further scrutiny.]

Further - Lisa Myers of NBC News has reported that even though IRS officials knew about the “inappropriate” targeting of conservative groups “for years,” they deliberately chose not to reveal such until AFTER the 2012 presidential election because – in her words – “(i)magine...if you can -- what would have happened if this fact came out in September 2012, in the middle of a presidential election? The terrain would have looked very different."

Here is a perfect example of the double standard the IRS applied when dealing with liberals/progressives/”friends of Obama” versus conservatives/Tea Party/”enemies of Obama.” As reported this past Thursday in the Washington Post:

“When the Barack H. Obama Foundation sought tax-exempt status to raise money for good works in Kenya, the Internal Revenue Service provided quick help.”

“The IRS approved charitable status for the foundation, which was run by President Obama’s brother and named after his father, in about a month’s time. The IRS also agreed to give the group this important financial status retroactively, back to 2009, when it had begun its fundraising.”

“The 34 days the IRS’s Cincinnati office took to process the foundation’s application stands in contrast to the waits of several months — and sometimes longer than a year — that several conservative groups say they experienced with the same office.”

So the message is clear: If you are on the correct side of the political aisle, you get all the benefits and quick service from the IRS. If you are associated with the Tea Party, conservatives, the “loyal opposition,” or if you PRAY – it’s SCREW YOU (and they did).

(Regarding my reference to praying, see: )

Hi my brother in advocacy, Sebe. I ain't a sayin' this about you in particular, but I am going to just "put it out there."

After the 2012 Election there were very many exit polls conducted. One that stood out IN PARTICULAR was what apppx. 12% of white, Republican voters SAID OUT LOUD.

The 12% said thusly: "I just don't think we, the country, is READY for a Black President."

I am NOT making this up.

Now this may or may not resemble the infamous "Don't Re-Nig" bumper sticker made by those conservative fools over in Ludowici...but it comes close.

I mean if this is what white people feel alright saying OUT LOUD, what in God's name are some of those like Tweedle Dee, Tweedle Dum, and a veritable host of other right wing buffoons THINKING?

You Tell me, Please.

The lunatic right wing Republican, Michelle Bachman of Minn. is on record for saying that her predominantly WHITE constituency, is asking her to initiate IMPEACHMENT of BHO. Her on record reply was...(this is hard to say because it is so blantantly obvious and revealing of conservatives)..."give us a little time to get the FACTS."

Imagine that!! Facts have relevance for impeachment! Who woulda thought such nonsence??!! Just the Facts and we will get him for ya. Yep, just give us some time and we will string him up for ya!

I am going to help the sanctimonious right wingers reading this out there and go ahead and SAY IT FOR YOU!!

It goes something like this: "Some of yall go find us a rope and we'll string this N----R up and get it over and done with."

That's right. If they're NOT READY yet...just give 'em some time to get "the facts" on this man. Then we will have some justice!

Conservatives are so ridiculous they cannot see it even when they talk, much less ATTEMPT to think.

They leave their "thinking" to be done by Rush Limbaugh instilling FEAR in them while they are getting back into their pick up trucks to eat lunch.

I, JIMMYMACK, Think: yall know what you can all go and do to your selves.

Think about it.

JimmyMack commented on Saturday, May 18, 2013 at 14:51 PM

The exit 12% exit poll was done in PA. For you rednecks out there that means, up north, in Pennsylvania.

sebekm commented on Saturday, May 18, 2013 at 16:40 PM

Jimmy: All of that means NOTHING now. We're talking about the IRS, Benghazi, the AP, and what the administration and executive branches of government did or did not do. If the shoe was on the other foot, you can be CERTAIN that the Dems would be howing EXACTLY as the Republicans are now.

sebekm commented on Saturday, May 18, 2013 at 16:41 PM

....howling, that is....

It ain't hype, and it ain't going away.

sebekm commented on Saturday, May 18, 2013 at 16:47 PM

....but besides all of this, it will be interesting to see whether that KY Derby horse can do it again today.

JimmyMack commented on Saturday, May 18, 2013 at 17:10 PM

Sebe: The AP was all about who called who and when about a covert CIA operation in Yemen that was yet to be foiled!!! There were NO transcripts of what was said between the CIA and their contacts. All they, the CIA, wanted was TIME to let the "evil doers" go down that dark evil trail then bust the whole operation BEFORE it could be acted upon by the Terrorists. The AP wanted to run with the story BEFORE the CIA completed their job.

Sounds reasonable to me.

Once Again: 13 US Embassy attacks under W. Thirteen!!!! Where's the OUTRAGE as the hypocritical Conservative Gambling in debt to the Mob Bill Bennett would say. Or better yet, write a book about, Called the Death of Outrage.

IRS: Anybody, Anyone, Any organization, that applies for tax exempt status must fill out many more forms and undergo much scrutiny before being allowed that Tax Status. Couple that fact with the FACT that G.E. (the corporation) paid...drum roll please conservatives...
ZIP, NADA, N-O-T-H-I-N-G during the time frame being questioned by Conservatives.

You see, GE is a PROFIT driven entity and not ELIGIBLE for tax exemption. They, the Corporate heads, are allowed to hire fantastic Tax lawyers to get around all that paying money to the government stuff.

In short, they get to take their 9:00am wine enemas at NO cost what so ever. The lesser of us must use old fashioned water with our enemas. Or, depending where you grew up and maybe what grade you did NOT get on your report card, you might get a little TIDE washing detergent mixed with the wa-wa.

sebekm commented on Saturday, May 18, 2013 at 17:17 PM

But back to the main topic:

A prominent Democrat, U.S. Senator Claire McCaskill, is on board with the 74% of Americans who KNOW it isn't hype. McCaskill said yesterday:

"“We should not only fire the head of the IRS, which has occurred, but we’ve got to go down the line and find every single person who had anything to do with this and make sure that THEY (emphasis added) are removed...."

I agree - go down the line and UP THE LINE and "remove" them all. Deep Throat said "follow the money"; nowadays it's "follow the texts, emails, and cell phone calls." You can bet your bottom dollar that Homeland Security and the DOJ have the evidence by virtue of their "surveillance" in connection with "national security." They just need to turn it - and the whistleblowers - loose.

The dam is bursting, and as a wise man once said on these here blog pages: There ain't no goin' back.

sebekm commented on Saturday, May 18, 2013 at 17:20 PM

Jimmy: This is not about Dubya; it's not about GE, and it's not about changing the subject. The American people know how it's played, and THIS TIME, obfuscation won't work.

The train is rolling, and it is gaining steam.

JimmyMack commented on Saturday, May 18, 2013 at 17:28 PM

Nice move. But it ain't agonna happen, Save for the IRS Chief. Did he resign or get fired???

Yes, that was a wise man you quoted. The problem with not goin back is more akin to toothpaste being put back in the tube.

In this Particular Tri-fecta Conservative Feeding Frenzy Hoopla, it's all about putting water back in the glass.

Two different things entirely. Same with types of enemas.

sebekm commented on Saturday, May 18, 2013 at 17:42 PM

...and Senior Democratic Senator Max Baucus agrees with ME - much more to come out on the IRS scandal.

Just wait - it will all be drips and time goes by.....

sebekm commented on Saturday, May 18, 2013 at 17:44 PM ain't hype, and it ain't going away.....

JimmyMack commented on Saturday, May 18, 2013 at 18:49 PM

It IS your Blog, Sebe. I am just commentin' on it.

sebekm commented on Sunday, May 19, 2013 at 12:25 PM

No problem - I understand and I welcome your comments. I recognize where you're coming from, and I've made my positions and motivation clear. As an anti-Democrat, you should expect no less. As a self-professed "liberal," I see your points and "will defend to the death your right to make them."

But I obviously disagree.

Graeme245 commented on Monday, May 20, 2013 at 10:29 AM

Her name is "Lois Lerner" Ms. Lerner is in a rather unique position at the IRS, she's in charge of approving "investigations etc"

Then again when it's causes that she has a personal interest in it's an entirely different story;

BTW have a look at dear Lois' hubby's bio it's worth doing a bit of a google search ;)

I hate to say this but frankly the entire system (regardless of political affiliation) is rotten to the core and the lines from Henry The Sixth, Part 2 Act 4, scene 2, 71–78. are fairly dead on...(and some of my best friends are lawyers)

sebekm commented on Monday, May 20, 2013 at 17:42 PM

Mine, too. Thanks for the links. I've got one I'll add when I get on a PC instead of the cell phone.IMHO - Lerner is a key to the whole IRS mess, and has been leading the attack and the suppression of GOP supporters and activities for DECADES. It's all starting to come out now, and I agree with Max Baucus- there will be a whole lot more to come.

sebekm commented on Monday, May 20, 2013 at 18:49 PM

Here's the link I mentioned above on Lerner:

It quotes TheDailyBeast article, but points out how the administration's defense of her overlooks her substantial history of political oppression and suppression of conversative groups in the past. Lerner was head of the Enforcement Office at the Federal Election Commisson (FEC) from 1986 to 2001, and the linked article points out one notable case involving the FEC and the Christian Coalition during Lerner's tenure. Here are the highlights:

*"In the late 1990s, the FEC launched an onerous investigation of the Christian Coalition, ultimately costing the organization hundreds of thousands of dollars and countless hours in lost work. The investigation was notable because the FEC alleged that the Christian Coalition was coordinating issue advocacy expenditures with a number of candidates for office. Aside from lacking proof this was happening, it was an open question whether the FEC had the authority to bring these charges."

*"One of the most shocking things about the current IRS scandal is the revelation that the agency asked one religious pro-life group to detail the content of their prayers and asked clearly innappropriate questions about private religious activity. But under Lerner's watch, innappropriate religious inquiries were a hallmark of the FEC's interrogation of the Christian Coalition."

*" The Christian Coalition was ultimately absolved of any FEC wrongdoing in 1999, and Lerner was promoted to acting General Counsel at the FEC in 2001 before eventually moving on to the IRS."

sebekm commented on Monday, May 20, 2013 at 19:05 PM

....additionally, Lerner was labeled a LIAR by "The Fact Checker" at the Washington Post earlier today, who awarded her a "bushel" (actually it was four) "Pinocchios" for her honesty, integrity and veracity in connection with the IRS scandal:

The Fact Checker also points out that all the lies, obfuscation, etc., "is just scratching the surface of Lerner’s misstatements and weasely wording when the revelations about the IRS’s activities first came to light on May 10. But, taken together, it’s certainly enough to earn her four Pinocchios."

Note: Four Pinocchios is the absolutely highest (or you could say "lowest") rating given by The Fact Checker. It represents the the most totally outrageous deceit possible on their scale. For reference, here is the scale:

"The Pinocchio Test

Where possible, we will adopt the following standard in fact-checking the claims of a politician, political candidate, diplomat or interest group.

*One Pinocchio: Some shading of the facts. Selective telling of the truth. Some omissions and exaggerations, but no outright falsehoods.

*Two Pinocchios: Significant omissions and/or exaggerations. Some factual error may be involved but not necessarily. A politician can create a false, misleading impression by playing with words and using legalistic language that means little to ordinary people.

*Three Pinocchios: Significant factual error and/or obvious contradictions.

*Four Pinocchios: Whoppers."

" ain't hype, and it ain't going away....."

It is Chicago politics and it is ugly.

Graeme245 commented on Wednesday, May 22, 2013 at 09:53 AM

So dear Lois is pleading the 5th today, why am I not surprised...

sebekm commented on Saturday, May 25, 2013 at 17:15 PM

They should fire her - THEN - subpoena her back and make her testify (if she really did waive the 5th by making an opening statement) - OR - force her to publicly take the 5th again.

If the latter, she should be reminded that the 5th Amendment reads as follows:

"No person shall be held to answer for a capital, or otherwise infamous crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a Grand Jury, except in cases arising in the land or naval forces, or in the Militia, when in actual service in time of War or public danger; nor shall any person be subject for the same offense to be twice put in jeopardy of life or limb; nor shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself, nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation."

AND that the only part which possibly applies to her reads:

"...nor shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself..." (even though it is not yet a "criminal case")

Issa should have jumped on that one. I suspect he will if she tries to pull the same thing again.

Graeme245 commented on Monday, May 27, 2013 at 09:28 AM

One learned opinion from a friend of mine (happens to be a professor of Constitutional Law) concerning Lois Lerner's pleading of the 5th

Quote: She'll be hauled back before the Committee but immunity or not, nobody can make
her talk. All you can do is lay out the penalties if she doesn't testify.

On balance, this may be the best thing to happen as it gives the Committee a
reason to appeal to the full House for appointment of a Special Prosecutor. end quote.

sebekm commented on Tuesday, May 28, 2013 at 13:24 PM

I think a special prosecutor is the way things will go with this one. The GOP knows it has the facts AND the law on its side, and the best way for them to minimize the apparent partisanship of the investigation into IRSGate is with a special prosecutor.

I agree that she'll be hauled back in front of the committee - if only to force her to do the "TV perp walk" and to inform her that she got lousy legal advice previously: one doesn't "take the 5th" for reasons of INNOCENCE. One asserts their 5th Amendment rights TO AVOID SELF-INCRIMINATION.
