Take Me To Post Comment Form

At last I've seen a comment by Bill Maher that I agree with. On his uber-liberal HBO program "Real Time" this past Friday, Maher made the following statement:

"This president wouldn't be president if they had caught him" smoking pot. "He'd still be a community organizer."

This comment provided the basis for an article by Noel Sheppard which was posted online yesterday at NewsBusters.org. The article is relatively short, so I'll post it in its entirety here:

"Maher: Obama Would Still Be a Community Organizer If He’d Been Busted for Smoking Pot
By Noel Sheppard | May 04, 2013 | 12:01

Bill Maher said something on HBO's Real Time Friday that Barack Obama's fans in the media didn't consider when they promoted the former junior senator from Illinois to the White House.

"This president wouldn't be president if they had caught him" smoking pot. "He'd still be a community organizer" (the article includes a video of Maher's comment with transcript and commentary).

During the panel discussion, Maher brought up a joke Obama told at last weekend's White House Correspondents' Association Dinner.

"He said, ‘The media landscape is changing so rapidly you can't keep up with it. I remember when BuzzFeed was just something I did in college around 2 AM,’" Maher relayed. "And that pissed me off because, you know, there are actually people in jail. There are something like 750,000 people who get arrested for pot every year."

"This president wouldn't be president if they had caught him, if that was on his record," Maher added. "He'd still be a community organizer."

Indeed. But Obama's drug use - which included cocaine - didn't bother his devotees in the media.

Not one bit.

For the record, Maher's final comment on this subject was, "I just wonder when he's going to get the memo that pot is the new gay marriage."

So are people opposed to the legalization of marijuana going to be the left's next targets?

Watch out, conservatives. In the coming years you're going to be labeled as intolerant weedophobes!"

Anything goes.

"So are people opposed to the legalization of marijuana going to be the left's next targets?"

I will step up to the plate on this one Sebe. The answer is an emphatic YES.

As one of the more conservative politians on the right, Newt Gingrich, has said on several occasions: that his use of Marijuana was just a sign you were alive in the 60's and 70's.

Now that the medicinal qualities of Mary Jane are comig to the fore and is becoming legal in a growing number of states, accompanied by the ever growing realization that the Trillion dollar war against DRUGS (of any kind) is lost, we will end up legalizing it, growing it, taxing it and we all be the better off for having done so.

We will have taken the trillions of dollars away from the drug cartels and narco-terrorists, and put all them dollars from profit growing and taxation to the betterment of all Americans.

I keep sayin it but it seems to fall on some deaf ears, but it's a new world Charlie Brown and the ship has sailed.

sebekm commented on Sunday, May 05, 2013 at 12:43 PM

Perhaps not. We shall see.

Funkentelecky commented on Sunday, May 05, 2013 at 18:25 PM

There's really no reason to target anyone, just make the rational case for it. The war on drugs is lost, billions of mula wasted when we could just legalize it like we did alcohol during prohibition. It would keep our children safer because it won't be as available as it is now on the streets. Imagine, we have a liquor store how about the WEED Store. The Feds will have more revenue for the economy, the addicted, etc, etc, etc. No SWD "Smoking While Driving" and no buzzing while at work using the same laws on the books for alcohol. Remember President Obama 2008 "Yes We Can." That's how you get it done and I think he could do it, if he really believed in it and wanted to.

I agree with you Funk.

I agree too.

Funkentelecky commented on Monday, May 06, 2013 at 18:21 PM

Like Ronald Reagan said “If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it”

Thanks for the support JM and SF3 :D

Funkentelecky, you are spot on and the sooner the better.

Having said that let me say that I am speaking with regards to marijuana only as I know that cocaine is not something that I'd care to see legalized because of the dreadful consequences of repeated use of that awful stuff.

If pot was legal it could be produced within the confines of our border and thus it could be regulated and taxed.

Cocaine must be imported.

JimmyMack commented on Wednesday, May 08, 2013 at 08:26 AM

Well, we have imported beer and liquour also. We could still get it shipped in and tax the living bejesus out of it and take the money away from the cartels.

JimmyMack commented on Wednesday, May 08, 2013 at 10:26 AM

Who knows Tot? One day we could bump into one another at some legal grass dispensary and fire one up. My only requirement would be that you should supply the jumbo size bag of chocolate chip cookies. I would bring the milk.

If we both are stoned we more than likely will not fight each other.

The world is a strang place.

JimmyMack commented on Wednesday, May 08, 2013 at 10:34 AM

..which gets me thinking...why just the two of us? We could get all the contributers here, Sebe, Funk, gacpl, Up2, SF3, lholmes, Sheran (providing she wears a bathing suit or short shorts), Eyes, Iky, MLC, HMJC, and any and all the others I might have left out. If we got a hold of some of that Oregon Mountain Knockout weed, we might even get in the proper frame of mind to seek out our old friend Murr. We would insist on her taking the first hit off the mojo joint.

Sounds like a happening!!!

"I see the crystal raindrops fall
And see the beauty of it all
Is when the sun comes shining through

To make those rainbows in my mind
When I think of you some time
And I want to spend some time with you

Just the two of us
We can make it if we try
Just the two of us
Just the two of us
Building castles in the sky
Just the two of us
You and I

We look for love, no time for tears
Wasted waters's all that is
And it don't make no flowers grow

Good things might come to those who wait
Not to those who wait to late
We got to go for all we know

Just the two of us
We can make it if we try
Just the two of us
Just the two of us
Building castles in the sky
Just the two of us
You and I

I hear the crystal raindrops fall
On the window down the hall
And it becomes the morning dew

Darling, when the morning comes
And I see the morning sun
I want to be the one with you

Just the two of us
We can make it if we try
Just the two of us
Just the two of us
Building big castles way on high
Just the two of us
You and I"

JM your post this morning at 10:26 is absolutely correct.

When it's legal I'll call you and I'll bring a nice three finger bag and we'll have a good time.

JimmyMack commented on Wednesday, May 08, 2013 at 16:29 PM

Sounds like a plan.

Funkentelecky commented on Friday, May 10, 2013 at 12:00 PM

Count me in, when it's legalized :D

JimmyMack commented on Friday, May 10, 2013 at 15:22 PM

Or...we could do what the famous Conservative Pundit William F. Buckley did when he "tried" it. He took his yacht outside the 3 mile limit in the ocean and toked up a joint or two..."to see what all the fuss was about...etc"

His comments on his talk show was that all he experienced while "high" was that he had a sudden urge to go take a nap. After eating a peanut butter and jelly sandwich with a tall glass of milk.

Anybody got a boat?

JimmyMack commented on Saturday, May 11, 2013 at 12:49 PM

Yo Sebe is that Kenny Loggins, or Bill Withers or somebody else singin dat one?

BTW: Life is strange as I said. Picture two 60 + year old idiots such as Tot and myself (polar opposites on most things) stoned and lost in a boat up in McQueens Inlet someplace at St. Catherines Island tryin to decide to turn left or right to get back out into the Sound.

It's Bill Withers. I've added it as a media file.
