I'll preface this one by saying "if true" - but I saw an interesting "Sound Off" item in this morning's print Courier which is worth repeating:

"I was at city hall earlier, and I noticed a Porsche parked in the handicapped space with no decals. I saw an officer standing outside, so I reported it to him. He said, "Oh, that's the mayor's, there's nothing we can do. He does it all the time." Is he above the law?"

Reminds me of this guy:

Unfortunately, the caller doesn't say WHICH city hall he or she is talking about. But I guess all of the local mayors probably don't drive Porsches (friends of Janis Joplin?), so if the shoe fits.....

Hi Jimmy: Actually, I think those Porsche drivers have the better of it. I had a three-speed stick Mercedez back in the 70s (Janis' time), and the most we got out of it was that my wife learned how to push-start a car.

I am a disabled Veteran (amputee). Doesn't suprise me about the "honorable" Mayor Thomas. He has always carried himself with an air of self importance. I expierance individuals that have no respect for handicap parking restrictions all of the time. I am not shy however, whenever I catch someone "in the act" I give them straight hell. Wrong is wrong.

Absolutely. My additional thoughts on the basic blog are that the caller probably shouldn't have called the Courier, they should have called the HPD (if it actually was the Hinesville mayor). Last time I checked, HPD HQ was in close proximity to city hall as well.

The other thing is that - in this brave new world of smart phones - if I go tooling by city hall and see a Porsche without decal/tag/permit parked in a HC slot (now knowing the background), I'd be tempted to take a snapshop and upload it to Twitter and/or YouTube. When something like that gets publicized, it usually gets results.

...take a snapshoT, that is...

sebekm commented on Wednesday, Apr 24, 2013 at 18:27 PM

....but in all seriousness and to be honest - I don't know why the mayor-in-question doesn't have his own marked parking slot, no matter who he/she is. I mean after all--only the worst partisans would begrudge a city mayor his own marked parking space. I've griped here ad nauseum about those SNEAKY PAY RAISES, but If I were running city admin, I might even consider redesignating one handicap parking slot (assuming there are more than legally required) for the mayor's use. Or rearrange the slots in the parking lot to make it work - something.

Thanks. Good info - but after reading "About Us" I'm wondering if the phone app and support system is cued for California only. I could be wrong.

Sheran commented on Wednesday, Apr 24, 2013 at 21:02 PM

They had other states in the blog area.
I say take a photo and post it on line. Point out "Idiots" in handicapped parking areas. This would be a great place to post a picture of the mayors car park in one.

Yes - that's what I meant about Twitter and YouTube. But things like this site and the "Sound Off" comments - if the shoe fits - tend to get to the right ears. Perhaps that will be enough to cause "behavior modification."

Yes pictures say a thousand words. Good advice Sheran.

One Reason Our “Do Nothing Congress” Does Nothing

Much has been said about GOP “obstructionism” – particularly as it relates to President Obama’s liberal agenda.
