Take Me To Post Comment Form was just reported that the President has apologized to California Attorney General Kamala Harris for commenting on her looks yesterday at a fundraiser. According to an article posted on

"During a fundraiser in California, Obama praised Harris' work and added that "she also happens to be, by far, the best-looking attorney general in the country." As the crowd reacted, the president said, "It's true! Come on!" (See Ms. Harris' "Official Attorney General File Photo" insert left.)

Some commentators criticized Obama for the crack, calling it sexist and demeaning."

Further, as a result of the President's "error," White House spokesman Jay Carney had to defend Mr. Obama at a press conference today. Carney pointed out that the President also described Harris as "brilliant, dedicated, and tough." Carney also said that the president "fully recognizes the challenge women continue to face in the workplace and that they should not be judged based on appearance."

One NFL commentary and analysis program (I think it is on ESPN) has a segment they call "C'mon, Man," which they dedicate to the dumbest or most outrageous act done or comment made by NFL personnel. They ought to make an exception and add Mr. Obama's critics on this issue to the list. The appropriate response in this case IS "C'mon, Man." Give me a break.

This is a perfect example of PC Gone Wild. I wonder what the reaction would have been if the President had described a openly gay, male U.S. Senator as "the best-looking senator in the country?"

On this issue - if I were Mr. Obama - I would tell the critics to "stick it," particularly because he now has so much more "flexibility" in his second term.

JimmyMack commented on Friday, Apr 05, 2013 at 16:56 PM

I agree. She is a LOOKER. But where do we tell his critics to stick it?

sebekm commented on Friday, Apr 05, 2013 at 17:03 PM

Obviously - where the sun don't shine. But in a related story, Michelle Obama committed a "slip of the tongue" yesterday during a television interview and called herself "a single mother."

There have been some prior reports of "friction" in the Obama marriage, and now these two incidents occur on the same day. Perhaps Mr. Obama is spending too much time with Bill Clinton.

Whoever is making a big deal out of this one needs to get a life. The President addressed her professionally on her job performance and credibility, and then gave a compliment that I agree with ,she is a looker isn’t she: D

Ms Obama’s slip is not a big deal, before BHO became President the family was together as a whole a lot which I understand why she could feel like a single mother sometimes.

I'm sure the White House is filled with roses....He may have to sing AL and Luther for a while..

sebekm commented on Friday, Apr 05, 2013 at 18:40 PM

When you look at the photo, the President undoubtedly was telling the absolute truth. They ought to praise him for telling the truth - not criticize him.

PN: Might that be Al Green and Luther Vandross?

Now this is a non story

....but a funny one...

I think too much is made of this. IF he was leering and objectifying then that would be one thing but who is to tell me I can't be beautiful and smart? He has said men were good looking without people giving it a second thought. I think it is only pwoplw who are insecure about themselves are the ones complaining.

sebekm commented on Saturday, Apr 06, 2013 at 12:34 PM

...and speaking of funny: Another story has been in the news lately which is in sharp contrast to this one. President Obama was criticized for complimenting a female public official on her appearance. In South America, they get the opposite:

sebekm commented on Saturday, Apr 06, 2013 at 12:37 PM

Hi up2: I haven't really dug into the story but I suspect it was just the Republicans trying to find something to pick at him about. Of course, the press latches on to it - partly because they say they're "starved" for news from/about the President and this one gets them some coverage.

I totally agree - when they pick at him about something like THIS, it must be a really slow news day....

Didn't Brent Musburger call Katherine Webb "now that is one good lookin' woman, folks' on air. Not that Brent has the stature of a President but the heat died down quickly when Ms.Webb stated how she was not insulted and took Old man Brents words as a compliment. BTW: she looks outstanding in a bikini.

sebekm commented on Saturday, Apr 06, 2013 at 16:00 PM

Who does - Ms. Webb or Ms. Harris?

JimmyMack commented on Saturday, Apr 06, 2013 at 17:20 PM

Hi Sebe: The Bama Quarterback's girl friend, Webb. Appeared on the reality show SPLASH.

Do not know about Harris, but the dirty old man in me thinks she could rock it.

A little off topic but along the same theme of not quite PC, got this list from a friend who is an assistant attorney general for the state of Virginia;
