It's the comprehensive degradation of our society on all fronts that gets us to these tragedies. I summarized my opinion in the recent "gay marriage" blog, but to further synthesize:
Used to be that parents, school, church, and the media worked in concert to mutually reinforce the moral compass upon which civilized societies are sustained. Now we have "progressed" to where the parents don't parent; the schools don't "reinforce,"; the churches are (for the most part) irrelevant; and the media is selling "me first" and "anything goes." Everything is now utterly disposable - including personal relationships which were intended to be "until death do us part" as well as common decency and the foundations of morality.
It will only get worse, until the society disentegrates or until a common will decides to come to grips with the issues and reinstate our "moral compass" in some way.
My hunch is that the former will occur first, but I'm willing to give "us" the benefit of the doubt.
I just found this on CNN news. This mother has lost another son to violence.

This makes me say "humm".
Seems the Aunt of the alleged shooter is laying down a pretty solid alibi for him. I hope that this doesn't turn into something uglier than it already is.
Yes - I saw a news item where a local LE spokesman said to the effect that "he wasn't surprised that the aunt was covering" for her nephew but that they had evidence to the contrary.
A tragedy to be sure - and a sign of the times.
Bad, sad situation any way you look at it. Bad if the kid pulled the trigger; bad if it turns into a Travon Martin\Mom horror of 'not sure.'
Looks like it came down the way the mother said now that the Shooter's mom and Aunt have recanted their stories.
