Resume writing is what you need to learn if you want to have a job that will take you far. Your professional resume will be the basis if employers will hire you or not so you better make sure that your resume is impressive enough to catch their attention and have a schedule for an interview. However, there are still some resumes that employers are really annoyed of.
These are resume that has trashy words and irrelevant information written. Those resumes may seem a one-size fit all resume which really irritates employer but as applicant, you still have the time manage your professional resume to prevent yourself from being rejected. Charles Purdy gave us some words to watch out for the benefit of our professional resume:
SALARY NEGOTIABLE: "If your salary is not negotiable, that would be somewhat unusual. (Still, don’t put that on your resume either.)"
REFERENCES AVAILABLE UPON REQUEST: "See the preceding comment about unnecessary terms."
RESPONSIBLE FOR: "Turn phrases like “responsible for” into “managed,” “led” or other decisive, strong verbs."
EXPERIENCE WORKING IN: "Describe your background in terms of achievements."
PROBLEM-SOLVING SKILLS: "On your resume, stick to skills that require a human."
DETAIL-ORIENTED: "So, you pay attention to details. Well, so does everyone else. Don’t you have something unique to tell the hiring manager?"
HARDWORKING: "Anyone can call himself a hard worker."
TEAM PLAYER: "If you have relevant success stories about collaboration, put them on your resume."
PROACTIVE: "This is a completely deflated buzzword. Again, show rather than tell."
OBJECTIVE: "A resume objective is usually better replaced by a career summary describing your background, achievements and what you have to offer an employer."
