Well, I guess it is all going to be ok now, Biden has been tapped to lead the commission to develop coarses of action for enhanced gun control. I may sound a bit sarcastic as I cannot think of one issue that he has championed that came to any type of effective fruition. Please dont missunderstand me, we are at a turning point and there will be some changes. I just do not have faith in the current administration to be objective and focus on initiatives that will actually have an actual impact. It is going to be interesting to say the least.

Faux news is the mouthpiece for the conservative right. BHO is doing something and is meeting those on the right half-way with cuts to spending in entitlements and increased taxes on the wealthy, while main-taining tax cuts for the middle class.

I'm still looking for EXACTLY what the President proposes should be cut. Not cuts in GROWTH of spending, or cuts in projected INCREASES, but actual CUTS IN ENTITLEMENTS. Every analysis I have seen from all sources (not Faux News) can not list a single domestic program that the President has promised will be CUT (not growth cutting or increase cutting, but cutting in actual dollars from the amount that is being spent on that program today).

As long as he continues to do this, the problem will not be solved. It will only be "kicked down the road." Growth in GDP will not provide the revenues to overtake the debt accumulated while they fiddle. Actual cuts to current spending levels have to be made.

Social security is not now what it was when enacted under FDR way back when.

See: http://www.larouchepub.com/other/2004...

It's now basically a retirement plan - or the augmentation to a larger, overall retirement plan. Sure - people pay into it, and their money is supposed to be in a "trust fund" (or as Al Gore would say - a "lock box") - drawing interest - until it is paid out to them annuity-style. But that trust fund has been raided so often there's no telling what its TRUE solvency actually is. From what I read in the paper, it seems to be just another pot of money the politicians dip into when they run another pot of money dry.

In the beginning, the intent of Social Security was not to be a retirement plan. And anybody who was born and raised in this country over the past fifty years should have had no reasonable expectation that they could live out their retirement years SOLELY on their Social Security benefits.

As the government now considers me a "senior citizen," I guess I ought to feel otherwise but I don't. If this country was REALLY serious about getting our fiscal house in order, they ought to consider means testing for Social Security benefits. Of course, they would never do this because the left would never let it happen - even though most of those who got "tested out" of the program would be the richest.

If the VA would quit rewarding whiners who came upon hard times and then turned to the government for a handout that would help.

We all know some able bodied men who have played the role of crazy just for the free money.

It also happens with the fakers who turn to SSI with trumped up disabilities.

The unprovable back problem.

Once upon a time pride made men stand on their own two feet.

ASmith,

Thank you for the examples, I truly was not aware of these efforts.

TOT,

I would ask that you do not generalize Veterans as whiners. Tell that to the cat with one leg missing ect. Some people do milk the system both civilian and military. Contrary to popular belief, obtaining VA benifits for all of your issues is not an easy process. It is lengthy and usually takes years to be fully compensated. I dare say the Veterans benifits are not the cause of our current fiscal situation.

"You would feel differently, sebekm, if the government were to decide to stop paying military pensions and VA benefits. It won't, you know it and so you can afford to feel as you do."

I didn't say the government should stop paying military pensions and VA benefits. I said there are no sacred cows and that everything should be on the table for cuts. Military pensions are no different than other pensions - they are essentially the result of a contract between an individual and an organization which upon "retirement" benefits are disbursed. There are those who consider military pensions to be "freeloading" = similar to welfare. The difference is that pensions result from SERVICE RENDERED. Welfare results from EXISTING AND QUALIFIYING.

Military/VA benefits are currently being scrutinized for cuts, and - as long as EVERYTHING REALLY IS ON THE TABLE - I say CUT AWAY. As stated earlier, I want them to use the cuts to pay down debt and NOT to fund additional entitlement programs. See my blueprint for a return to fiscal health of this country in another blog.

Tot strikes again. After our Veterans now, huh Tot?!!

So it ain't just the homosexuals, foodstamp recipients, un-wed mothers, child beating parents, liberals, etc. etc.???!!! It's our wounded soldiers.

I am becoming convinced that one is wasting their time talking to you.
What did you say your College Degree was in and don't give me that School of Hard knocks crap. I do not think I have ever seen anyone so openly demonstrate the limits of their mental capacity such as you.

And: I BELIEVE you don't even know you are doing it.
