I guess some people have more time on their hands than good sense. Georgia is one of 30 states which have residents wanting to leave the union. Good luck maintaing your current life style and freedom. Get with the program people. Work within the system to make changes that will make this country great or leave. It is simple. Think it's bad here, go some place else and see how good you really had it. I like my state to be part of the union thank-you. I am proud to be an Ameircan, warts and all. You don't speak for me so stop pretending you do.

“A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship. The average age of the world's greatest civilizations has been 200 years.”

Yes, Up2, these people be stupid. They are what I have referred to as: dead-enders. Besides, America has already fought this war and at a great cost. States Rights is usually their mantra, and I bet if you did a demographic study of them, they would be light of pigment, angry, balding or married to one of such characteristics.

sebekm commented on Tuesday, Nov 13, 2012 at 15:57 PM

Yes - it is a silly exercise. I mentioned in another blog that there are a whole pack of states' voters who are doing the same thing. They may accumulate the necessary votes (25,000) to have their petitions "considered by the Obama administration," but you can rest assured that nobody really takes their symbolic "requests for secession" seriously.

Now - if the state governors start mobilizing their National Guard to surround and attack the federal military installations within their states - then I'd be worried.

But until then, it's just more laughs provided by sore losers. They all need to get over it. 2016 will provide another opportunity. These sore losers should conserve their time, energy, enthusiasm, and hard-earned capital for the support of the GOP candidate THEN - when it will make a difference.

For now, they're just providing late-night fodder for Leno and Letterman.

Not counting the Dems out in 2016 already are you Sebe? What if we put up a special "messenger?"

up2sumptin commented on Tuesday, Nov 13, 2012 at 17:39 PM

No more election talk until at least 2014. lol

sebekm commented on Tuesday, Nov 13, 2012 at 18:00 PM

"Not counting the Dems out in 2016 already are you Sebe?"

Absolutely NOT. The country will undoubtedly continue to be as polarized as ever for the forseeable future unless - as Ronald Reagan pointed out several times - we were confronted by "invaders from outer space" (or at least from Russia, China, or the EU gone wild). In that case, we'd all be singing kumbaya and "Jesus Loves The Little Children" hand-in-hand.

I expect that HRC will get the first call to be the new Dem messenger in 2016. As I pointed out in another blog, Mrs. Clinton will be pushing 70 in 2016. Depending who the other side puts up, she may be at a severe disadvantage in the all-important "beauty contest" area.

In fact, I have a few "candid" photos of Hillary that I'll put up on my "Krauthammer Solution" blog. She'll need to look like those AS INFREQUENTLY AS POSSIBLE (IF EVER) if she wants to be competitive in "the beauty contest."

....and if President Obama nominates John Kerry as Secretary of Defense, he will once again be shoving a stick in the collective eyes of the United States military. Kerry is widely viewed as a traitor and collaborator with the enemy, based on his Viet Nam-era "activities" (throwing away his medals, anti-US comments on national television, etc., etc.). Kerry as Secretary of Defense would be received more negatively even than Les Aspin serving in the same job at the behest of Bill Clinton in the 1990s.

gacpl commented on Tuesday, Nov 13, 2012 at 19:09 PM

like you said earlier, it is a silly exercise. but if it continues it wont be. over 200 years ago there was silly talk in taverns around the colonies that eventually lead to war with England. we come from a history of standing up to governments when we feel pushed too far. i don't want to see it happen, but the writings on the wall. it is all slowly coming together. which is what Obama wants, he wants to split this country up. read his books, watch Obama 2016 (which is not a Obama smashing movie) and you will see what his vision is for america.

Drip...drip...drip...the case is being built...

sebekm commented on Friday, Nov 16, 2012 at 11:42 AM

My hunch is that your comment was removed by the site monitors on its own merits (or lack thereof).

sebekm commented on Friday, Nov 16, 2012 at 18:47 PM

If I reported you I wouldn't hide it. You can be sure that I would also say it here. I DIDN'T.

The only point you made is that you still don't get the point. And you make that point repeatedly.

When I report something, you will be the first to know. In fact, I'll make you a promise:

Every time I think you've crossed the line and I intend to report something, I'll send you a private note FIRST.

Until then, you continue to build the case for your suspension or (using a Catholic term) excommunication. Keep it up. Your insults only serve to strengthen the case.

sebekm commented on Friday, Nov 16, 2012 at 18:59 PM

Once again, I encourage anyone who believes that they are the target of abusive, personal attacks under "the terms and conditions of use" of the site to report it. As a refresher, these include any comments which "could be CONSIDERED (emphasis added)":

*damageable, injurious, defamatory, libelous toward persons or organizations

*obscene, vulgar, profane, abusive, bullying, harassing or threatening racially

*ethnically or religiously offensive, discriminatory in any way, advertising

*promotes illegal or criminal acts, impersonation of another person or entity"

Note that just about every derogatory label and insult Murrelet uses falls into one of the first three descriptions. A lot of people on this site talk about making a difference and wanting change for the better. If you like being the target of abusive insults and derogatory labels, then let it go. Otherwise, SPEAK UP and make a difference for positive change.

sebekm commented on Saturday, Nov 17, 2012 at 11:31 AM

You need more corrections than that. I tell the truth as I see it. Sometimes my views differ from others, but when I say something I follow through to the best of my ability.

I repeat: When I report something, you'll be the first to know. I did not cause your recent comment to be removed.

sebekm commented on Saturday, Nov 17, 2012 at 12:19 PM

I just tried to send you a private note, but your username doesn't show up in the site user listing. So I'm forced to publicly inform you that I have reported you to the webmeister.

sebekm commented on Monday, Nov 19, 2012 at 15:18 PM

No, the predictors I cited did not play out in the last election as they had previously. Prior to this election, they had demonstrated a high degree of reliability. (Some - like the Auburn/LSU and Washington Redskin games - were just basically "superstition" that I chose to point out to add some humor.) Stuff happens. I didn't create the predictors. It's easy to point out after-the-fact that something did or didn't work out. But with elections - there's always next time.

And no, I am not interested in using this site as "my own personal echo chamber." What I AM interested in is civil discourse which complies with the site terms of use. To complain about clear violations of the site terms is not "whining," and I will continue to do so. If you don't like it, that's your problem. The simple solution is to comply with the site terms - just like everybody else. As long as you refrain from the abusive and derogatory language - as you seem to have done over the past few days (since my notice to you of my complaint, I might add) - I won't have any reason to complain.

I don't care whether you (or anybody else) likes me or not, or agrees with my point of view. But I do have a point of view which is as valid as anyone else's, and which deserves as much respect as anyone else's. Freedom of speech does not give someone the right to refer to people as "idiots," "pea brains," "drunk," or the hackneyed string of derogatory terms you have slung around on this site toward other bloggers.

You don't know me, and I don't know you. So what we're really commenting on is the opinions expressed by the other person. As long as my ideas are attacked, I'll have no problem. When you attack me personally, I'm going to "complain" every time.

sebekm commented on Monday, Nov 19, 2012 at 15:21 PM

...and I ALWAYS tell the truth. It may not be YOUR truth, but it is what I believe. Again - if you don't like it, that's your problem.

sebekm commented on Monday, Nov 19, 2012 at 18:00 PM

...that's ALABAMA/LSU (not Auburn)...

sebekm commented on Tuesday, Nov 20, 2012 at 11:51 AM

You are my inspiration.

sebekm commented on Tuesday, Nov 20, 2012 at 19:01 PM

I don't know that you are a female. You post anonymously, and as such the "community" really doesn't know who you are. In my world, there is no such thing as an "uppity female," but there are plenty of people who are intolerant of opinions other than their own, and who resort to name-calling and verbal abuse whenever they have no (further) argument to make.

sebekm commented on Tuesday, Nov 20, 2012 at 19:11 PM

And - really - you perceive that I view you as an "uppity female?" Who's playing the victim here?
