Think it is wonderful so many organizations and just good folks have gotten involved in bringing awareness to the welfare of animals... I didn't know a group of animal lovers purchased land in Ludowici to be used as a sanctuary... Anyway, I applaud you all for your kindness...
Yes WHL, it's called the Miracle Ranch. There needed to be a good holding facility for the ones that are selected to go north. They take so many of our Liberty County dogs each month but Animal Control fill's up so fast that the selected dogs have to be moved out to make room for the new ones. The Miracle Ranch will house them, basically quarantine them, before they are ready to leave. :-) They are outside kennels but they have a misting system in place to keep the dogs cool and the kennels are covered of course.
Murrelet, yes that was back in 2006 or 2007, right before they got rid of the gas chamber. Actually, that's what shut the chamber down... Terrible that something like that had to happen to make some people see that gassing dogs and cats as a means of euthanasia is NOT acceptable. :-( Grace is doing wonderful and is a very happy dog now.
I was at Wolfe Animal Hospital yesterday picking up my dogs flea pills and they had a 7 month old bulldog puppy they tried to give me. The puppy will be euthanized later this week or early next week if someone does not take her. I asked why not take the puppy to the animal shelter or animal control but they said the shelter was too full.
Yes, it is so sad. We can run ourselves ragged trying to find homes but you'll never find homes for all of them. There will always be that group that ends up getting euthanized. There needs to be a fix to the root of the problem because just simply finding homes for the ones that end up at Animal Control is just like "treading water." It never stops. I also think that people have started dropping off more at Liberty because they know that there is a rescue who works on finding them homes. I'm saying this because it has been a huge influx on intake (dogs and cats) like I've never seen before and I don't think that it's just the economy suffering. :-(
I would take in more but I just do not have the room or time for anymore pets. My neighbor moved a few weeks ago and left their small dog in the yard without food or water so I took him in.
