Never thought I would be in this position...but here goes nothing. I have been the object of Murrs bashing. She is quite good at it. I, in turn, have traded barbs with her. It's called free speech people and if it gets toooooo free speaking for ya...butt the hell out. Some people like Kitchens, I know I do. Some can't take the heat.
We are NOT in Church here folks. You want peace and harmony and good will (pretended or real? We got a couple hundred places of civility and worship sites to pick from in this area and you can pick some of that up there.
As one of my blogging friends once stated here before, and I paraphrase, "if you are looking for peace, harmony and good will..." you won't find it here.
To my thin skinned bloggers I say: tough cookies!!!!
...and I've made the point before that "free speech" is NOT the ability to say anything you want whenever you want to whomever you want for whatever reason. Just as screaming "fire" in a crowded theater is excluded, so is language (on this site supposedly) which is "abusive,"bullying," and "harassing" to other bloggers.
When abuse, bullying, and harassment become the purpose of a blog string itself - IMHO - you are beyond the protection of "free speech." When the blog string becomes an opportunity for a bully to relentlessly insult and pound on somebody just "because they can," I believe in a controlled environment (by the Courier), that behavior should be curtailed.
This blog site is not SUPPOSED to be for people to bash each other - it is supposed to be for the free and unfettered exchange of IDEAS and dialogue. When that dialogue consists only of abuse, it becomes a cancer.
Yes - I did say your quote above in one of my earlier, more fatalistic moments. But I've been here going on three years now (I think), and my gauge of Murrelet's activity on this site is to provoke hostility so she can level insults. Other than a few, streaky, bipolar posts at other times, that's it.
The other people who want to engage in dialogue here don't deserve that. Who knows how many people she has run off with her insults? I would think the Courier would be interested in THAT - along with ATTEMPTING to maintain peace, harmony, and good will - in even the slightest form - on THEIR web site.
There's only ONE egregious violator of their policy that I see here. I intend to point it out to the Courier.

Exactly. That guy's whole purpose was to "shout down" and SHUT DOWN any real discourse on the topic. So should that be the goal or end result of a blog site "community?" Obviously - just as in real life - people aren't always going to get along, but when the bashing becomes all-consuming and the actual focus of the dialogue, then I think it's the wrong answer.
We ought to be able to disagree without calling each other various forms of a maternal fornicator, or be subjected to continuous and repeated insults just because it makes somebody feel good to do so. That's all I'm saying.

Doesn't work. If you review the entire body of evidence, you really do see a bipolar effect at work, where there are brief stretches of civil discourse, inevitably (so far) followed by lengthy "target practice" with demeaning insults. It's human nature to "defend yourself," so people feel compelled to respond. When you don't, then comes further insults of "coward," "boy," and (in the case of males), comments directed at questioning manhood; and other women are "stupid cows."
No - doesn't/hasn't worked up until now.

Yes, Jimmy....but according to this site's rules of use, "abuse, harassment, and bullying" DO NOT have a place here. For years, it has been instigated almost exclusively by this one blogger.
I believe that it's now time for a change.
I understand Sebe and you have documented your opinion very well indeed. I think we all are now waiting for the ball to drop or not.
