Lap Dances for Tots

Actually, it's not really lap dances for tots, but leave it to my original home town, Chicago, Illinois - the Home of the Bears - to come up with an original way to get toys into the hands of needy children. As the below linked article states, the Admiral Theatre in Chicago is running its 2nd Annual Lap Dances for Holiday Toy Donations program. For this week and this week only, the ladies who ply their wares at the Admiral will provide a free lap dance to any customer (apparently the gender of the customer is immaterial) in exchange for the donation of an unused, unwrapped children's toy. But as the article also says: "... you won’t get extra attention if you clear off the shelves at the toy store and come to the Admiral with a big sack on your back. The limit is one lap dance per customer."

Last year, the campaign raised five CARLOADS of toys, which were donated to churches in the surrounding area. (The article doesn't say whether the cars were of the automotive or the railroad variety.) The Admiral Theatre is located at 3940 W. Lawrence Avenue on the north side of Chicago, and is open 364 days a year. (It is only closed on Christmas Eve.)

Yes - it's amazing what ingenuity the free enterprise system will invoke. The location of this "charity event" - the Admiral Theatre - has been a "staple" of adult entertainment at its current location for approximately 40 years. I must confess that I visited the place one time in the early 1970s - just for curiosity's sake you understand. At the time, it was being touted as the only remaining "burlesque house" in the city of Chicago. Once was enough for me, however; as I found it kind of like the ancient archaeological sites we visited in Italy, Greece, and Turkey when I was stationed in Europe. After awhile everything starts looking the same, and the experience gets old pretty fast.

I guess this one gives new meaning to the term: "Ho Ho Ho."

.....and the Admiral missed a great marketing opportunity. Everybody LOVES "catchy slogans," so how about this one instead of "Lap Dances for Holiday Toy Donations?" They could have called it:

Toys for Ta-Tas

(If Benny Hill was running the Admiral, he wouldn't have missed that one. See:
